I'd heard about Eureka's cancellation, Bookwyrm. I'll miss it. (I did enjoy the Stan Lee cameo!)

A while back (perhaps in chat) we had a discussion about the Discovery Channel's excellent series When We Left Earth: the NASA Missions. It begins with Project Mercury and covers American spaceflight through the shuttle era, with lots of old footage along with comments from Gene Kranz, Christopher Kraft, and numerous astronauts.

I found a new DVD set of this series at a great price at a local used bookstore (Half Price Books), so I've been watching the first episodes (I missed the Mercury and Gemini episodes when it aired on TV). Definitely recommended if you're into space exploration.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I love that series. They had it on Netflix and I began watching it not certain of what to expect, but was thoroughly enthralled by it. Gary Sinise is the narrator, by the way. ;)) I was quite surprised to find out many things about the Mercury program, such as scientists not knowing if a person's eyeballs would float out of their heads if they went into orbit. They just didn't know. And because there were so many unknowns that makes me respect the astronauts so much more. The added footage (the first spacewalk in particular comes to mind) was very much icing on the cake. The astronauts are heroes among heroes in my mind.

F_K, I don't have cable but I think I've seen Food Network provided by my converter box thing. *raises hand* I do enjoy watching such food channels-- when I have food with me, so I don't starve while watching. ;))

I Love watching food network! My favorite show is Chopped and The food network Challenges!

I watch the Food network whenever I'm watching tv at a house with cable!

So glad I'm not the only one who loves the Food Network. :D ;)) My very favorite show is Dinner: Impossible with Robert Irvine and I was SO STOKED that they just added that series to Hulu! ;)) (And really irritated that they're not making that show anymore. Now they're doing Restaurant Impossible which is.. eh. Ok.) And 7chronicles, they just added Chopped today as well. ;)

Wow, I've never heard of this series. Is it still on Netflix? I'll have to look it up! :)

I prefer comedies, like Glee, the Office, and Community.
(If you're a fan of the Office this is funny) I got my dad a "The Office" sign to put on his door and when I gave it to him I put it in green jell-o! :D

I started watching "Case Closed" (Detective Conan). I really enjoy it! It's funny and mysterious (and yeah, the "when-the-bad-guys-get-caught" speeches from said bad-guys are a hint corny ;)) But, I can forgive it :P ) and very entertaining.
I haven't seen many episodes yet (such as any with Kaito Kid), but as soon as some stuff that requires my attention off the screen is done, I'll pro'lly get to it.

Icon by me. Sister: Aslanisthebest
Every time I think of a quote or witty comment to put here, the quote is not so spectacular and the comment is not so witty.

call me silly, but I've been digging up old 90's TV shows :P all those old sitcoms that I was either too young to remember or I was never born when they aired. Brotherly Love (starring Joey, Matt, and Andy Lawrence) is my current favorite. and I found Blossom, which is good too :D

I finally watched Torchwood: Children of Earth (the Season 3 mini-series). Initially, I was wary of the series, since I'd read that it was highly sexual at times. But this season was different. It was a tight sci-fi/drama/horror story, very well-written and overall, incredibly well-acted. I won't say much, because saying anything would spoil it. Suffice to say the series plays on the fears of adults for the well-being of their children. It has scenes reminiscent of C.S. Lewis' That Hideous Strength and borrows from John Wyndham's The Midwich Cuckoos (apparently - I haven't read that book, yet). Children of Earth doesn't have much inappropriate content (there's a bit of violence and language but that's it) but the themes are incredibly dark and disturbing. I was speechless, emotionally-drained and in complete shock at the end. I know this word is overused but it's completely appropriate here - it was 'heart-wrenching'.
There are some minor camp moments but overall, Children of Earth was a brilliant piece of work. Dark but so very, very human. Highly recommended for older teens and adults.

I'm still catching up with NuWho but Torchwood is on my radar of things to view sometime. Thanks for the comments, Warrior.

Many US television shows begin their new seasons next week. One that's been heavily advertised is the arrival of Terry O'Quinn (LOST's John Locke) as a new character on Hawaii Five-0 - already the home of LOST alumnus Daniel Dae Kim (Jin).

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I saw that Terry O'Quinn was going to be on the show and was kind of excited. I don't watch it regularly enough to know everything that's going on, but the episodes I've watched I like. :) I'm half surprised they haven't put Sun in there yet. ;))

The Walking Dead season 2 premiers October 16th of next month! It has been a brutally long year waiting for this wonderful show to start back up. Now if only I could find someone with cable so I could watch it at their house...

You're welcome to join me for viewing TWD, Shadowlander...but the commute would be a tough one. ;)

I should also mention another LOST connection I'll be watching next week: Michael Emerson (Benjamin Linus) joins James Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ, Frequency) in J.J. Abrams' new show on CBS, Person of Interest.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I'm looking forward to Person of Interest too. A J.J. Abrahms/Jonathon Nolan team-up? I would be shocked if it weren't good.

It's been brutally long. I don't plan on returning to it, lost all interest. It doesn't help that only 7 episodes are going to air in the Fall, with the remaining 6 episodes airing next year beginning Feb 12. I want a show that's on TV regularly.

Season 1 was extremely short, though great. Season 2 is short, and split between several months. I'll have enough other shows. I already removed the series from my recordings.

-------

I tried New Girl, iTunes had the pilot episode for free. I only got half way before I turned it off with no interest to continue.

I also saw Up All Night, it wasn't the greatest of shows- there's room for improvement. It shows promise however so it has a "pass" for now. I have several more shows to try.

I wonder if J.J. Abrams' new series - Alcatraz will be any good. The premise sounds interesting and it looks quality. We'll have to wait and see how it all comes together.

Have you ever tried:

Step by Step
Sister Sister
Boy Meets World
Full House
Saved by the Bell
Family Matters
Fresh Prince of Bel Air

I grew up on those shows. I don't like half of them anymore, but for their time I loved them all. I used to really enjoy Brotherly Love and Blossom too.
