This may seem like a stupid question but why are the first episodes called pilot episodes. Is it like when they first go to air like a pilot first goes up in the air?
I think that's a good question actually. This should explain it for you:

Thank you that explans a lot. Tv stations probalay recieve heaps of pilots...
I still am stuck with Lost in Season 1, . I need some other suggestions of great shows! Feel free to pm me guys. . I want to know more shows in any genre. Hmmmm.... Psyche sounds a bit interesting though.. .

I still am stuck with Lost in Season 1
Like that's a bad thing! Season 1's one of the best seasons for the show. Enjoy it while it lasts!
On a quasi-related note my wife's been bringing home Smallville seasons and I just polished off Season #4. I have to admit I've really taken a liking to it, although the show has its fair share of "filler" episodes. Here I am, a 37 year old man watching a teen sci-fi soap opera (really, that's what the show boils down to in the end ) mixed with comic book lore (which is why I'm watching it in the first place ), and I've really gotten quite attached to the whole thing.
Things I've learned about Smallville thus far (4 Seasons in and counting)
- Lana Lang...please...just go away
- Chloe is awesomeness
- Lois Lane is pretty cool, if not a tad bit too hyper (my wife's words)
- Lex is still extremely cool
- Lionel is still extremely evil
-
- Lois Lane is part ninja
- Alicia Baker is a character I kind of got fond of.
- You'd think after the first 100 failed experiments with kryptonite that Luthorcorps would just shelve the idea of using the crazy stuff.
- The episode "Transference" was a real hoot. That's the one in which
- Chloe can keep a secret...didn't see that one coming. But then again, she is awesomeness.
- I sometimes think Lana's a bigger villain than Lionel or Lex is.
Wife is reserving Season 5...if I interpreted the season finale of Season 4 correctly big things are coming!

Ha, ha! Shadowlander, that sounds about right to me. I can't think of the episode name but there's an episode in Season 4 featuring Lex, which may just be one of my favourites. It's one in which he plays the piano until his fingers bleed. Very psychological.

Covert Affairs is fast losing my interest. Too little Auggie, too much angsty American pretty girl Annie. The last episode was mostly action and I honestly don't care that much about the head CIA guy (Peter Gallagher) and his wife/head of DPD.
Kate, I agree with you completely. I'm afraid it's going to eventually go on the list of USA shows that I can't stand. (Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, Law and Order:CI)
They should center the whole show on Auggie. Now that would be a good show.
Anyone else watch Tuesday episode of "White Collar"? It was a good one.

AJoanna, what's wrong with Burn Notice? It's not amazing but it's good, simple fun.
Bookwyrm, I thought Haven was based on a book by Stephen King?
Sandy, do you mean stuck with LOST Season 1 as something you're struggling with or that you just haven't had time to watch more of it?
I've been watching the Stargate SG1 Season 1. At best it was decent, at worst it was laughable. Thankfully it really improved after the episode, Thor's Hammer (yes, it was silly). The following three episodes - The Torment of Tantalus, Bloodlines, and Fire and Water, were easily the best of Season 1 so far. I just hope it stays like this because I was going to abandon the series.

On the BBC there is a modern version of Sherlock Holmes, I thought it would be rubbish. But I gave it as chance and It was AMAZING. The acting and story lines where superb as well as the script and though being modern take things right out of the book and somehow it works out perfectly. Just wondering if anyone else has seen it, and if you haven't but can, you really should

Covert Affairs,
Tuesday's was alright. But I love the Auggie parts. He needs more screen time. I also don't care for the married couple. But I like the Annie as well.
White Collar,
I'm trying to play catch up with season which I "just" started. I'm 7 episodes in and the last I saw made my jaw drop, I'm not sure how I feel about what I saw. I should catch up in a week, thankfully it's not so many episodes.
Warrior 4 Jesus, keep at it! Don't worry, the 2nd half of s1 on upwards are much better. Even some the most die hard fans refuse to talk about the first half of that SG-1's original season. The "There But for the Grace of God" tetralogy is certainly worth waiting for.
Speaking of LOST:
The show may be off the air but occasional gossip lives on. For example what is the MIB's "real" name?
We've always known the name of Lost's good guy (well, supposed good guy) dressed all in white. That's Jacob. But the guy in black? We've been stuck calling him ... the Man in Black. And Lost's creators wanted it that way, to preserve the mystery. But now the secret of the smoke monster's name is finally confirmed, and that name is—
But before we let you know, we should tell you that the character already had a name. Sort of. Though it never appeared on the show itself, it was used on the casting call for the episode in which the character first appeared, "The Incident." But casting call sheets can include temporary names, and they aren't considered canonical.
But now tvovermind has uncovered confirming info of the Man in Black's true name, found on the back of actor Titus Welliver's chair, which is being sold at auction. And the Man in Black's name is ...
(Are you ready?)
Samuel.
Now you know.
And Access Hollywood has posted a 1:07 clip of the 11 minutes of extra footage coming in the season 6 and complete collection DVD releases (August 24).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
stargazer, that's cool about MIB's real name. I quite like it. Can't wait for the set to be released, being a late comer to the show I get to buy the series in full now.
Avatar, just finished watching "The Serpent's Pass" and "The Drill".
It was here that two characters from season one reappeared and it was nice to see them again. Getting close the the end of Book 2 which I have taken slowly, because i don't want this to end yet. Sure I have Book 3 left, but after that... Nothing. Until next year that is with "Legend of Korra" which I have high hopes for.
Major LOST spoiler regarding the man in black/smoke monster:
And I didn't even watch LOST! I did watch the finale because it was there.
It's back! My humongous [technical term] study of What's behind "Left Behind" and random other stuff.

I loved the 1 minute sneak-peak of LOST: The New Man in Charge. I got chills!
Actually the MIB's real name isn't
