The Bridge picture is just perfect! :) It looks just like I imagined the Shire to look.

Loving the bridge! Beorn's house looks fantastic and true to the book but it's far too small in terms of length, width and height.

Ya it's really small. Other than that I love it.

emphasis mine
If that is indeed Beorn's house, I suspect it's probably the set that's scaled for Mikael Persbrandt (Beorn) and there's another much, much, MUCH larger set elsewhere for the dwarves and Bilbo.

Does anybody else besides me have a massive craving to buy and live in a Hobbit hole right about now? :P

That's what I was thinking too. I also thought it was kind of small but figured it was just a smaller set for filming from a distance or something. How big is Beorn? I haven't read the books in a long time but even if he was hobbit sized, that house still looks a bit small. And is there anything in middle earth that's smaller than Hobbits other than a few animals?

I think that Hobbits are the smallest as far as thinking things

I can't remember exactly how big Beorn is. Let's just say Hagrid (from Harry Potter) has nothing on him.

YES!!! :D

I forget who asked about it on the previous page, but our daughter really enjoyed Sarah Arthur's Walking with Frodo when she was in her teens. She found the book insightful and relevant.

As for Beorn:

Standing near was a huge man with a thick black beard and hair, and great bare arms and legs with knotted muscles. He was clothed in a tunic of wool down to his knees, and was leaning on a large axe. The horses were standing by him with their noses at his shoulder.

(italics mine)
That's one large man.
:-o ;))

OK. Yea the reason I was asking about how big he was is because of FK's post about the house in the picture perhaps being "the set that's scaled for Beorn". I thought that Beorn was rather large but it didn't make sense that that particular set was scaled for Beorn and another would be made for the dwarves and hobbits that's much larger. Especially considering all the actors are normal sized men. I would think the sets would be the same size and that there would be just one unless that one, as I mentioned earlier, was built for exterior shots when people aren't around.

NAH, the reason they scale sets like that is so that Beorn will look larger in comparison to the set and the dwarves and Bilbo will look smaller in comparison. They did something similar in FotR with the Bag End set: there was a smaller scale set for Gandalf to come into and a larger one for Bilbo and Frodo to be in.

Jo, when I read that paragraph, I've always pictured it more like this rather than taking it to mean that they had their necks up and his shoulder was as high as they could reach! For me, the more telling indicator of Beorn's size is when Tolkien mentions in the next paragraph that Bilbo's head wouldn't touch the fringe on Beorn's tunic.

My $0.02 :)
