Did you see the dwarves...
(Not sure if that was spoiler worthy.)
They didn't do that in the book... they only pretended to, or said they were going to...

Very interesting video. I only just started keeping up with The Hobbit and inadvertently discovered this thread.
It's been a while since I've read the book, Ithilwen, but from everything I've read about the Hobbit movie,
I am *very* excited to see how this progresses.
I enjoyed the video very much! I thought it was really funny how two of the dwarves were saying that they were jealous of the dwarf without a beard (Kili?) and how if Middle Earth had a boy band, he would be the lead singer.
"Let the music cast its spell,
give the atmosphere a chance.
Simply follow where I lead;
let me teach you how to dance."
I don't think the sentence you missed is in my copy, DotK. Hardly makes sense for me . . .
Anyway, so glad you enjoyed The Hobbit, Narnian Wolf! I hope you read LotR soon!

Peter Jackson has sent us a picture of all the Dwarfs together!

Glad to finally see what Thorin looks like all the way!
The Value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity. C.S. Lewis
Is the edition you have an abridged version, or do you think the lack of that sentence being in there was just an accident?
Are there abridged versions? I've never seen any; of course that doesn't mean they don't exist.
That's true: I've never seen any either. I was just wondering if maybe you knew something I didn't!
Kili still doesn't look much like a dwarf.
I agree with you 100%! I have to remember though, that he and Fili are the youngest, so I bet that's a big part of the reason that he looks the way he does (hardly any beard, young-looking face, etc.). But I still don't really like how he looks. I hope I'll get used to him though. I think I will.
Speaking of Fili and Kili, how does everyone pronounce their names? My mom (johobbit) and I have always pronounced them Fee-lee and Kee-lee. But I suppose they could be pronounced Fill-ee and Kill-ee. Just a question. I've never actually checked if Tolkien ever wrote how they are supposed to be pronounced. Knowing him, he probably did somewhere...

SpoilerThrowing the plates and breaking them? They didn't do that in the book... they only pretended to, or said they were going to...
Oh, I haven't seen the little movie yet, but if the dwarfs really are going to do this, I'm quite disappointed. I really like how in the book, like you said, Riella, they only said they were going to do this, but in reality, did exactly the opposite,

A Middle-earth boy band? With beardless Kili as the lead singer?! That's really funny, sweeet!
Thanks for that link, 7chronicles. I like the picture! I especially like how the dwarfs are not in their family groups (Oin and Gloin beside each other, Ori, Nori, and Dori beside each other, etc.), but how they're all mixed up. It makes for good practice for those of us who are trying to memorize them! (Like me, and I tried, and named all of them in this recent picture, except two: Bifur and Bofur - I couldn't remember which was which until I looked at the previous picture - the one with labels of the names - and now I think I know them all!)

I've always said Fee-lee and Kee-lee as well.
I did a quick look for Tolkien reading from The Hobbit, hoping that he'd read off the list of dwarves, but all I found was Riddles in the Dark.

I was thinking more of maybe him explaining somewhere in his appendices how names with these letter combinations are pronounced, like he does for a lot of other letter combinations in his words - although I suppose there was a chance he had recorded reading the dwarf names out loud before he died...
By the way, has anyone here seen the old animated The Hobbit movie? And, if anyone has, how did you like it? I liked it quite a bit, but it's time, with the technology like it is now, for them to make a live-action version, so I'm very glad this is happening!

I loved the cartoon version of the hobbit! I just watched it a few days ago. The only problem I had with it was that they killed off way too many of the original 13 dwarves.
I've seen the movie...

I loved them all!
I was glad to see that Christopher Lee would be a part of this project. He was left out of the theater version of RotK - he was included in the DVD Extended Edition, but he was left out of all the movie adverts and the movie posters, I think even of the credits.
I like that he gets this instead (hope they don't change their minds).

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to comment on the full lineup of dwarves, OR on the 3rd production blog (which was unbelievably awesome), or much of anything else really.
But something I didn't want to point out for those who might have missed it, was TORn posted a video interview with Luke Evans a couple days ago where he talks briefly about Bard. Kind of cool.
I just started reading Fellowship of the Ring yesterday! It's really great! I'm only on the third chapter and I'm already enjoying it immensely!

I've finished the trilogy last month as well, was 2 years ago since the last time.
This week i've re-read The Hobbit: Graphic Novel, by David Wenzel. I really recommend it, very faithfull to the book, practically everything is included and well drawn and painted.
I like this marketing technique of releasing images of the dwarves a few at a time.
Similar to Gandalf's marketing technique, when he brought the dwarves in a couple at a time to meet Beorn.
Narnian Wolf, is this the first time you've read The LotR? So glad you're enjoying it!
Good to hear about the graphic novel, Rilian. We bought it a few years ago, but I haven't hardly looked at it as yet.

Does anyone here speak Elvish really well? Or know someplace where I could find someone who speaks it well? There's a song written in Elvish that I really need translated. The problem is, I can't find the lyrics. So it would need to be translated by ear.
