Do you think there will be more pictures of other characters? Maybe they'll show Bilbo next against that background, or the Orc King, or Thranduil, or the King of Lake-Town?

Very nice and interesting collection of the 13 Hobbit dwarves. :) Thanks for posting the link, Watchful Admin. :)

Definitely a varied bunch in look and age (which is good). It will be interesting to see the interaction on the big screen of their personalities (amongst each other and Bilbo and Gandalf); an aspect of The Hobbit movies(s) that I am most looking forward to. :)

Hmm, I can't see the picture on that page . . .
And I'm hoping we'll get to see more and more pictures of different characters. :D

Wow, those dwarves look great! Thanks for posting the link of the picture of them all together, fk. (I've had it up as a separate tab and keep referring to it while reading the last few pages of this thread whenever anyone makes a comment about one of the thirteen. It's very handy!)

I agree with the majority of comments about the company of dwarves. Most of them look really good: Thorin and Orcrist are great, Bombur's nicely plump (don't know what's up with that beard/necklace thing, though :p ), Ori's kind of cute-looking, Nori's hairstyle is bizarre, I'm gonna have to get used to Dwalin being bald, Oin and Gloin look awesome, and Fili and Kili are too attractive/elf-like (they are the youngest however, and therefore what fk said about the length of each of the dwarf's beards being in direct relation to their age does make sense). That pretty much sums up my thoughts! :)

As mentioned by others, I do like how the movie-makers are really personalizing each dwarf - making each one unique. Some of them truly do have very different qualities than others!

Perhaps they will be introduced to Bilbo in the beginning in the family pairs that we are seeing now. That might help people watching the movie for the first time!

I think they will be. At least, (from what I remember), they were in the book.

I like this marketing technique of releasing images of the dwarves a few at a time.

I like it, too. Perhaps they're doing it reminiscent of how Gandalf introduced the dwarves to Beorn - a couple at a time!

I like your dwarf flash cards, 7chronicles!

Thorin! :-o Wow! I think he looks pretty cool! And intense.

"Intense" was one of the words that came to my mind too when I saw him.

Regarding The Hobbit as compared to LotR: after I read The Hobbit, I thought, "That was the best book ever; there can't be a book better than this!". When I mentioned these thoughts to my dad, he said, "Just wait until you read The Lord of the Rings!". So then I did read LotR, and guess what? I liked it even more, and I had the exact same feelings about it that I had had for The Hobbit!

Regarding the lack of brightly-coloured dwarf hoods, like in the book: I think this worked in the book, especially because it was written for children, but I think if they had done this in the movie, it would have looked odd. :p

The link isn't working, Libby. :(

I realized how many times I've read LotR the other day. My sister has the lovely hardcover editions featuring the Alan Lee illustrations. I was flipping through Fellowship, looking at the pictures, when I happened to glance at the last page of the Council of Elrond. The last sentence was Elrond saying that Sam at least would go with Frodo. All well and good, but I was sure that Sam sat down beat-red afterwards and said something about landing into a nice pickle this time. So I pulled out my copy (the extremely awesome 50th anniversary edition B-) ) and double-checked the end of that chapter. Sure enough, I was right.

I'm not sure which is scarier: a sentence being left out, or me noticing that a sentence was left out. ;)) :p

I just finished reading The Hobbit yesterday! What a great book! I almost cried at the end of the battle. I'm really looking forward to the first part of the movie next year! :)

I need to read Fellowship of the Ring next, right? ;)

Right. ;) And I'm so glad you enjoyed the Hobbit. :)

Dot, that's so odd a sentence was left out of your copy. :-o I wonder, is it like that in all copies of that edition, or just in yours?

*wonders how many other editions there are with missing sentences* :-s

EDIT: Peter Jackson just said on his Facebook there's a third Hobbit production video coming out!!!

Libby, the link isn't working for me either...

daughter of the King, your post was really funny and cute. (By the way, I really like Alan Lee's illustrations.) Anyway, good for you for noticing that sentence missing. You're right: I guess that does mean you've read it a lot, which isn't a bad thing at all! (I think I would have noticed it was missing too because I love that part! I think what he says there is: "A nice pickle we have landed ourselves in, Mr. Frodo!". But that's just from memory so it may not be exactly correct.)

I'm not sure which is scarier: a sentence being left out, or me noticing that a sentence was left out. ;)) :p

I know what you mean by it being scary that you noticed the sentence was left out :p , but I think what is definitely more scary is the fact that it was left out. Is the edition you have an abridged version, or do you think the lack of that sentence being in there was just an accident? If it was left out unintentionally, it makes me wonder how many other parts are accidentally left out of it, or left out of any other editions for that matter! One thing in a book that's incorrect like that just breaks your trust in it. I'm sure if Tolkien himself were alive still, being the perfectionist he was, he would make sure that something like this wouldn't happen and be outraged if it did!

I just finished reading The Hobbit yesterday! What a great book! I almost cried at the end of the battle. I'm really looking forward to the first part of the movie next year! :)

Yeah, Narnian Wolf, it is a great book. :) And, yes, if you think The Hobbit is a great story, you should read The Lord of the Rings next, starting, like you said, with The Fellowship of the Ring! (That is, as long as you don't mind more intensity and depth to the story; The Hobbit was written for children and The Lord of the Rings wasn't.) If you still have doubts as to whether you should start reading LotR, read the second last paragraph in my post here.

Peter Jackson just said on his Facebook there's a third Hobbit production video coming out!!!

*will refrain from doing her happy dance until she sees the video but is bouncing up and down in anticipation in the meantime*

Is the edition you have an abridged version, or do you think the lack of that sentence being in there was just an accident?

Are there abridged versions? I've never seen any; of course that doesn't mean they don't exist. I'm going to assume something went wrong with the printing and left it out (my printer does that sometimes, makes writing school papers quite difficult ;)) ). But you're right, it is disconcerting that such a thing could happen. Makes me wonder if there's anything else missing. Oh well, at least the illustrations are pretty, except the Council of Elrond one (why in the world is an inset of Gollum randomly hanging around in the middle of it?!). Anyway, I still have my 50th Anniversary Edition and I know there isn't any text missing in that. And my sister has paperback copies so she'll probably only keep the hardbacks around to look at the pictures. :p

Edit: We posted at the same time Riella! *goes to watch video and proceeds to do her happy dance*

Ah, the third production was awesome! I found it really lighter than the other ones and it mainly felt like a way to try to soak up what the dwarves look like, cuz it's not such a surprise anymore... I think it worked for me because some of them I'm slowly adjusting to (and others there's still a ways to go). Just to clarify, are the only scenes that have been revealed Bag End, Rivendell, and Gollum's cave? (Edit: add the trolls sorta to that list)??? Because maybe that's where the first movie is stopping?

BTW, Peter's adventures in the UK with

Spoiler
Christopher Lee
at the end was hilarious :)

I think I've got all the Dwarves figured out now. Throughout the video I was going "that's Bifur, and that's Dori, and that's Kili, and there's Bombur, Ooh! There's Thorin!" Kili still doesn't look much like a dwarf. ;))

Just to clarify, are the only scenes that have been revealed Bag End, Rivendell, and Gollum's cave? (Edit: add the trolls sorta to that list)???

As far as I can tell, yes. I'm sure I drove my family crazy with comments like "It's Gollum's cave!" and "It's Elrond and Gandalf together in Rivendell! Yay!!" :p
