So the Blu-Ray LOTR EEs are coming out... Does anyone know if the movies will have anything that the old EEs don't? More scenes, or more bonus features?

and Martin Freeman in costume looks way more like Merry then Bilbo

Libby, in my opinion, it's fitting that Bilbo should look like Merry, since Merry is a young hobbit and Bilbo should definitely look like a young hobbit in this one. ;) I think there needs to be a distinction between the old Bilbo (Ian Holm) and the new one (Martin Freeman), so I'm okay if a few things are different.

I agree. :) While reading The Hobbit I imagined Bilbo as older, about 50 or so. But 50 year old Hobbits in a fantasy story can look 25-30 I suppose. :D Yes, the age distinction (at least appearance wise) is important. :)

Since hobbits don't come of age until 33 and commonly live past 100, 50 is about 35-40 for them.

Bilbo looks a bit different in that picture than he did in the others, and Gandalf looks even younger than I thought.

And the elves of Rivendell are sneering at them? That's certainly different than it was in the book... :-s

Love Bilbo, Love Gandalf. My comment for both is the same, they look younger than I thought they would. Especially Gandalf's hair... it has a lot more black in it than it did for LotR.

In the book (if I recall correctly) there was a lot of playful mocking/teasing upon their arrival to Rivendell. I suppose that could be interpreted as sneering.
But if it's actually done in a mean way in the movie, I will likely be annoyed by it.

oh, I agree that Bilbo must look younger - that's not what I was worried about. it's the fact that the young Bilbo in the picture looks more like a Brandybuck than a Baggins :P
but hey, I have been watching LOTR since I was old enough to see the battle scenes and I just can't make Martin Freeman be Bilbo in my mind.....yet. maybe when I see the movie it will change, but Ian Holm is Bilbo to me. it's just too bad that Martin Freeman doesn't, IMHO, look like Ian Holm. oh well. re-casting always is hard and changes things. :| *sigh*
I'll just have to see when the movie comes out :)

Everyone has there own opinion, I personally think Martin Freeman looks just like a younger Ian Holm. :p
TheOneRing.net has a good picure comparison and photo rundown here:

The elves sneering doesn't worry me, it may have been a poor use of the word sneer, I could picture the Elves glaring and whispering amongst themselves.
I'm sure it's not everyday that thirteen
dwarfs come walking into Rivendell. ;)

I think I just realized what the plot is/might be surrounding the Evangeline-Lilly-as-an-Elf character...

They said she wouldn't have a romantic entanglement with Legolas, right? So then we all started thinking, what kind of plot would she have then, if not a romantic one?

Well, wasn't the original theory that the female elf character would have a romance with Lindir? That's most likely what it is. It wouldn't make sense she'd have a romance with Legolas anyway, since Orlando Bloom has only a cameo. But Lindir may have a lot more to do with it....

48 hours...

I had a question. In one interview, Dominic Monaghan is, he says, quoting Lord of the Rings. He says in one part Frodo states: "In a world filled with mirth and magic, you lose time in yourself."

Does Frodo really ever say that in LOTR? Because I don't remember reading it. Or is Dom Monaghan just joking around and making up his own quote, pretending it's in there? :-

^^ um, I'm pretty sure Frodo never said that in LOTR.....I just watched all the movies again and he didn't say that anywhere - maybe Dominic confused it with a line that Elijah Wood is going to say in The Hobbit?

He was talking about the book, not the movie. And it's from an interview done almost ten years ago...

I don't recall anyone saying that in the book. Perhaps he was mistaken? Even the the best of us sometimes don't get every quote quite right. ;)) Which, in turn, means that he could be right and I just don't remember.

I'm not 100% sure with the book, but I think Dom was just trying to mess with Elijah's head then, I got the impression that he was just trying to make Elijah feel as awkward as possible. (the interview that Ithy's talking about is the one on the easter egg from RotK)

These three brothers, all sons of the same mother, could not be more different from each other. Dori, the oldest, spends much of his time watching out for Ori, the youngest; making sure he's not caught a chill or got himself killed by Wargs or Goblins. Nobody quite knows what Nori gets up to most of the time, except that it's guaranteed to be dodgy and quite probably, illegal. Dori, Nori and Ori are intensely loyal to each other – and whilst they are perfectly happy fighting amongst themselves, woe-betide any anyone who means harm to one of these brothers.

I don't remember this part from the book. :P ;)) I guess they plan to expand the roles of each dwarf to give them more of an individual identity.

Well, I gotta say, this is the first promo picture that I don't absolutely love. Dori looks awesome. Nori and Ori are a bit too skinny for my taste. ;)) I personally prefer the heavy-set dwarf look. Hopefully they'll grow on me with time. :)
