I got The Children of Hurin from the college library earlier this week, but I have to return it today. It did give me an excellent idea for a paper cut art project of Turin killing Glaurung. I'll post pictures when its done.

Okay, what a relief (much as I like Radagast's character, little though we know about him). Thanks, Gandalfs Beard.
*still wishes McCoy was being considered for Bilbo* Who knows, though? There are so many dratted rumours floating around, 'cause people are desperate for news. Can you imagine when it actually begins to break ... ?
Oooh, Lady Haleth. The Children of Húrin is a fabulous, darker read, isn't it? ... this being one of my favourite tales in The Silmarillion—of Túrin, especially. Looking forward to seeing your project when it's complete.

Check out these cool Middle Earth travel posters. I'm thinking I might order the Misty Mountains one. http://stevethomasart.blogspot.com/2010/08/fantasy-travel-posters.html
Those are some great posters Booky . I particularly like the Rivendell one. There was also a particularly funny comment in the comments section:
I heard there's a still a tourist ban in Mordor. The last visitors were trapped in a volcanic eruption and had to be airlifted back to safety.

Catching up a bit....
That was an excellent article Warrior. I haven't read the others on the Space Trilogy, but I'm going to when I find the time.
How fast is the Beacon of Gondor?
Um, wow. That was interesting (although I only understood maybe a third of it).
*makes a note to come back and watch the interview when she finds the time*
publisher was insisting that the correct plural was 'dwarfs', saying that that was what was in the Oxford English Dictionary. Tolkien's reply? "I wrote the Oxford English Dictionary!"
I've always personally preferred "dwarves" over "dwarfs," but I can' claim that I wrote the dictionary.
and as Christopher Lee may not be returning it could be Saruman.
Christopher Lee might. not. be. returning? *bursts into tears and cries her eyes out* Okay, not really, but I didn't know that he might not come back. Yes, I am behind on the news.
Yes, I was going to do the art project in black, like silhouettes, against a red background, sort of close up... As for the story itself, I like Tolkien's writing style, as usual. Turin did seem to be a darker, rather anti-heroic figure. I enjoyed it the way I enjoy a tragedy (since that's basically what it is), with the curse catching up with him everywhere.
However, my favorite of all The Silmarillion stories was the tale of Beren and Luthien. Its just so beautiful. I only wish that could have made a stand-alone... I like it even better than Aragorn and Arwen, because Luthien does more. Now if I ever get a big hound, I will name him Huan. And if I ever had a little girl, I would want to call her Elizabeth Melian.
I did find out that Tolkien actually worked on the letter W. But I loved that quote. I also found out that some of the poems were set to music and played by a guy whose last name was Elven. (No joke!)

How fast is the Beacon of Gondor? Someone has a lot of time on his hands.
Fascinating article! I can't help but laugh at some spots, too. It never occurred in my mind that sections in LotR might be inaccurate to the laws of physics!
The last thing I'm going to do when reading a story like that is start wondering about the physics of it all.

I noticed that one too!

Is there any idea when news will actually start breaking? The whole thing seems to be progressing extremely slowly.
Is there anything for certain about having the White Council storyline, either? I thought it might have only been a rumor. (I'm afraid I haven't much idea. I haven't been trying to keep up on Hobbit news since it seems like most of the news going around so far is, indeed, only rumors.)
ack! I am dying to know who is going to play Bilbo! will they even make The Hobbit at this rate? will Peter Jackson direct it? questions, questions......

No kidding! But ... at least they're still working at it, and it hasn't disappeared into the Void/oblivion: some folk, I guess—very thankfully—are determined this film is to be made. It would be so curious to know what's really going on behind the scenes though.
Anyway, relating to that, here's an interesting news bit. I'm not familiar with Freeman, but TORn sure had/has high hopes.
Great posters, Booky. Really unique!

Personally I don't care how long Hobbit takes: maybe this means they are really fine tuning it and getting it perfect. Lord of the Rings wasn't made in a day
There's going to be so much expectations for Hobbit, it's going to be so (in Valiant Lucy's honor) intense.
I just got a copy of LotR from a used bookstore: all four in one large copy, with awesome maps on the covers, for $10. Was so excited. They also had a hard copy set, and I wanted it so bad, it was delicious. But I had just popped my tire and so couldn't justify spending the money Maybe in a few weeks.

I just finished re-reading The Hobbit, i think it's 4th time, it would make such a great film. Everything is ready for a shoot, designs, scripts all is done. It's just a pity it's getting delayed because of the financial problems of the studio. That's how they lost a great director, Guillermo Del Toro. And let's pray Jackson is doing it now, cause if not it might became a catastrophe. Even Ian McKellen told he isn't going to wait forever until the film gets greenlit. He also has other plans for the future. And if they loose McKellen, well he's pretty much Gandalf, unreplacable.
Yes, The Sun article has been making the rounds across cyberspace. The Sun isn't generally known for its credibility, being the UK equivalent of The Enquirer. Still TORn makes some good points, that this particular article has some substance behind it, despite some issues. It's a shame that Freeman likely won't be playing Bilbo. He was one of the favourites at The Hobbit forum.
But it does appear that Jackson and Co. aren't letting MGM's troubles stop them from forging ahead.

EDIT: The following link was just posted at The Hobbit Forum. make of it what you will : http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/09/08/martin-freeman-for-bilbo-in-the-hobbit-still-a-possibility-sources-say/

Labor Day weekend was very special this year because ......
I FINALLY WATCHED LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I invited my best friend (winterlife) over on Sunday/Monday for a sleepover and we watched The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers on Sunday and we watched The Return of the King on Monday. IT WAS AWESOME!!!! Everything I'd been expecting and I LOVE how close they stayed to the book!! A few things were different like when but all in all, they were amazingly good and I will definetly watch them again soon!
And now, I can not decide whether Legolas or Eowyn is my favorite character! From the book, Eowyn always was because she ROCKED when she I love that part. But now, after watching the movie. Legolas is AMAZING. I love the scene with the oliphaunt when Legolas jumps up on it's back and cuts the lines that hold the saddle on and lets the lines pull him up onto it's back. Then he shoots arrows into the oliphaunt's head and then snowboards/slides down it's trunk to the ground. He is AMAZING!!!!! Simply AMAZING!!!!
Anyway. Yea, I love the movies if you couldn't tell.
^^ yay! I am so glad you finally saw LOTR and so glad you liked it! welcome to the LOTR junkie family! lol
