Peter Jackson posted another video blog on his Facebook.

... =2&theater

Would someone mind posting a YouTube link for that please? Thank you! :)

Well, in other news, the Hobbit Premiere is officially set for November 28th in Wellington @ The Embassy Theater. (natch :) )

Why is the premiere so much earlier then the film's release? I thought the premiere and the release were the same day? :-

Also, Beecake, the group that Billy Boyd (Pippin) is in, released a new music video.

It's not bad...but it's not great either. :p At least to me...
It's weird to think of him without seeing him as Pippin, I keep thinking of this:

Most films aren't released world-wide at the same time. Usually there's a few weeks in between the premiere in one country and the theatrical release in another country. Sometimes it can take months. The Nov. 28 date is probably the New Zealand premiere and there will be a later, world-wide premiere on the day of the world-wide release (which would be the December date).

Twigs, if they include that part I'm sure they'll make it a little bit more intense.

Yeah.........I saw that Ithilwen. Did you happen to look at all the comments on the TOR forum?

Also, I have to agree with him.

Agreed. B-) LoL. But also, when we think about it, in LOTR Gimili

So...I dont know. It just seems too weird to actually be in the film. Can you imagine? %-( x_x /:)

Since I'm on the subject of dwarves and elves, I have a question for all you Ringers. ;))

Since when are elves of human height? I mean, ever think about it? We're raised with the theory of Santa and his little elves, but them we come to find out that elves are in fact human size. So really, it should be Santa and his little dwarves...right? :p

That's strange, though I don't know that I agree with the sentiment that PJ "wouldn't dare." He has a great deal of respect for Tolkien's materials, but it doesn't extend that far, IMO.

Also, regarding AslansChild's first spoiler:

Spoiler
I never got the impression that he "had a thing" for Galadriel beyond appreciating her beauty and wisdom. Describing that as "having a thing" for her is a bit crass, especially since what's in the film of Fellowship is not more than what the book says (as far as I remember).

Because I always got the opposite impression from the book. ;))

shastastwin & Ithilwen: ^#(^ I was just going off of what John Gilbert (the editor) said in a video I had seen. (I can try and find it if you'd like to see it for yourselves) I was just watching the video and he commented that:

Then is shows a clip from the film (I'm assuming the FOTR EE...having never seen any of the EE) of

So, I'm sorry if it came across weird. (and I had no intention for it to be crass)I don't know if it was in the books or not, I was just using that as an example that it could go either way in the Hobbit film. ^#(^

That's because they are entirely different Elves (note the capitalization). ;) Read the Silmarillion for the back-story of the Elves and why they are in Middle-Earth. That's the thing about Tolkien's world: it's almost impossible to really understand everything unless you read just about everything he wrote (including some of his letters!). It's a time-consuming process, but rewarding nonetheless.

On the "spoiler":

By the way, what does everyone think about Armitage's statement Because I always got the opposite impression from the book. ;))

Okay. I had not seen that interview. Yes, that scene in is the FotR EE. It's one of the best additions to the film for this book-lover.

However, I don't think that guy understands what's happening in that scene. ;)) It's probably the modern perspective that anyone of the opposite gender can't just admire someone's beauty, they have to fall in love, pervading the filmmaking process. ;) (And I apologize if I was overly harsh in my last post. I meant no offense.)

I see that dot has already answered the question about elves and Elves. It's true that before Tolkien elves were largely the small, trickster-type people in folklore, though you did have a few references to larger fairies like in Sir Orfeo and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
And ditto to dot's observations about Thorin.

O boy...that's a real hobby...now I know why you guys are called "Ringers" :p .
I DO plan on reading the LOTR trilogy, but I'm pretty hesitant...is it really slow going?

Ah. Yeah, maybe. (And that's fine, no offense taken :) )

Yes, well, I may or may not have a hardback edition of Tolkien's letters that I picked up in a used bookstore next to my paperback Silmarillion and a beautiful hardcover Atlas of Middle Earth. :p I'm a really terrible Ringer though, I don't own any of the books published by Christopher Tolkien. My knowledge of Middle-Earth has become rather sadly neglected since I started college. ;))

is it really slow going?

Yes and no. It's certainly a lot slower than the films, but I've read slower and heavier books (Lewis' The Pilgrim's Regress comes to mind). Some people just can't get into his style and other people love it. I'm in between. The characters could sing a little less often, but it's great poetry so I read it anyway.

When Galadriel asks Gimli that question in the book, he asks that he may have one hair from her head for his gift. She asks what he would do with it, and he says that he will encase it in crystal and keep it as an heirloom for his people. She then gives him three - and the LotR Appendices say that she had refused that to her own half-uncle Fëanor (who made the Silmarils), even though he had asked her three times.

So there's reverence more than anything else - Gimli realizes that she is so far above him (not merely in tallness) that anything romantic between them would be not only impossible, but preposterous. And not mainly because she's married.

Well, Santa and his Narnian Dwarfs (spelling by Lewis). After all, the Hobbits and his Khazad Dwarves (spelling by Tolkien) are technically too tall. Santa's elves are shorter than children at the age at which children no longer believe in Santa. [/end pedantic mode]

It's back! My humongous [technical term] study of What's behind "Left Behind" and random other stuff.

The Lord of the Rings is fairly slow-paced but the battle scenes are rushed. The writing style is rather dry at times but there's phenomenal world-building there and a great story and some excellent characters.

The books are certainly slower paced than the movies. The movies left out large chunks of the books in spots (Tom Bombadil, etc), that aren't necessarily vital to the plot.

My personal experience with LotR: I was able to read LotR before I saw the movies, and the books were very absorbing! However, I may have just done well with reading Tolkien's writing style, like others have said.

So, does anyone have any idea about when the next trailer will be out? I'm thinking it can't be too long from now, being six months since the last one and six months until the first movie comes out.
