I just got the best news I've had all week:
We were at church this morning and some friends of ours invited us over to watch the Olympics tonight! FIGURE SKATING, freestyle skiing, and luge. Tonight is the semi-finals of figure skating and since "You can't just watch the semi-finals and not the finals" (our friend said), they also invited us over to watch the figure skating finals tomorrow night too.
^^ that's awesome, narnian_at_heart!
figure skating! yay! I can't wait! it's my favorite winter olympic sprot!

Mine too! That's what I really want to see. I couldn't really care less about the luge but I like skiing and I'm looking forward to seeing the freestyle skiing. I haven't ever seen it or studied it and I don't know much about it.
since the guy from Georgia who was in luge, I don't care much for the sport.....

I'm so happy that the Olympics are here! My favourite sport to watch is figure skating too I would love to see Stephane Lambiel win, after his come back and in the ladies category I really like both Yu-Na Kim and Carolina Kostner.
I'm so excited that tonight is the pairs short program
Oh, and the ceremony was beautiful, specially the part with the whales and the tap dancing!
Thanks to malkah for the lovely avatar!
I'm currently in the middle of watching the pair skating short programs right now. Everyone is doing so well, I don't know if I have a favorite yet!! Some of the girls are so young!
I can't wait for the rest of the pairs this week, and then the Ladies figure skating awhile after that.
Proud ballet dancer!
4/23/12 - First triple pirouette en pointe!
I enjoyed watching the pairs figure skating too. (All the athletes seem young to me. )
I like watching the medal ceremonies - no matter the gold-winning country (in fact, I'd like it if the network aired more of them from other countries!) - it's neat to see the joy and pride on their faces.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I feel so bad for that Georgian (the country) guy and his family. I mean, he was 21! And all his dreams were snuffed out by a badly constructed track! What really makes me mad is that the IOC says that the track is fine- even though someone DIED on it!!!! Now that's just rude! A lot of people and veteran Lugers told them that it wasn't safe. They didn't listen. Now this man died and they STILL DIDN'T LISTEN! That makes me MAD!
Pray for Skandar member! PM Benjamin to join!
I saw the film on Opening Day!
When all else fails, read the Instructions!
I hope you enjoy it! It is one of my favourite events to watch, and I think that I'm really going to enjoy watching the teams that aren't the natural shoe-ins for medals (you know, Canada, U.S. & Sweden).
I watched some of the China vs. USA game yesterday, and felt kind of bad for China. It was fun to watch though (China's goalie did a fantastic job, she had some amazing saves!) They said China only has 166 registered female ice hockey players After watching it for a while, I think I want to play ice hockey now
I'm also interested in watching China's Shen and Zhao skate too.
I only saw two of the short routines last night, but I got to see Shen and Zhao. Even though I'm not much of a figure skating person it was great! The way they stayed in unison was amazing, and some of the jumps/throws (do they call them throws?) were really fun to watch. They got the highest score anyone's ever gotten in a short routine right?
since the guy from Georgia who was in luge, I don't care much for the sport...
That was really sad...I feel so bad for his family. And getting to the Olympics with the sport you love then this kind of tragedy happening.
I still watched the luge though, and it was amazing. Guys were crossing the finish line going 83-90 mph (and they said shortening the course would bring it down to 80, these guys are amazing!) The way they controlled the sled, and how just putting a foot down a little can slow you down...it's a pretty complicated sport. I think it'd be pretty fun to try though. (I seem to be attracted to all the dangerous sports )
And all his dreams were snuffed out by a badly constructed track! What really makes me mad is that the IOC says that the track is fine- even though someone DIED on it!!!! Now that's just rude! Other people told them it wasn't safe? I didn't hear that, but I only got to see 5 or 6 lugers so maybe that's why. They still tried to make the track safer by shortening the distance though. It could've just been one of those one in a million freak accidents that no one could've suspected or prevented.
I watched the men's biathlon yesterday, and I think it's now one of my favorite events It was kind of complicated how they judged who was winning, but it looked like so much fun!

That's SO cool!
My family got to watch the opening ceremony at my Grandma's house, and I'm going on the 23rd to watch the Ladies short program, and I'm staying til the 25th to see the Freeskate!

Way to go Alexandre Bilodeau from Canada! It was sooo cool watching his brother (who has cerebal palsy) celebrating his brother getting the first gold for Canada on their home turf!!!
Oh, and I loved Shen and Zhao skate as well. Just gorgeous!
We were astonished at the pairs short program last night. During one routine, a man fell during a jump and that couple got third place; then a few minutes later, a couple did not fall and had a very good routine and got fourth place. Explain that?
But other than that, I loved the skating. It was fun to watch.
I'm SUPER EXCITED about the Olympics!!!!!!!! The opening ceremony was pretty awesome, though it was sad that they some technical difficulties while lighting the torch.
My favorite events are speed skating (both long and short track) and figure skating. Weirdly enough, I'm cheering for Korea in speed skating and figure skating (though I'm American). I guess I should add that I'm half-Korean and was born in Korea, lol!
I don't care for Ohno at all. Ever since I saw him race during the Salt Lake Olympics, I haven't cheered for him. He's always pushing or touching people. I was upset that he wasn't disqualified from the semis. If anybody else had touched another skater they would've gotten disqualified, and Ohno has touched people more than four times (not in the same race)! I was very proud of Korea for getting gold, and I'm glad that Celski got a bronze. He really deserved to get a medal after all the stuff he's gone through. I was sad that the Koreans wiped out. But they did their best!
I'm also cheering for Kim Yu-na (if you can't tell by my avie) in figure skating. She's just SO amazing, and it would wonderful for Korea to get their first Olympic figure skating this year!

I agree! I think it's so awesome that he does it for his brother.

A lot of people and veteran Lugers told them that it wasn't safe. They didn't listen. Now this man died and they STILL DIDN'T LISTEN! That makes me MAD!
I watched on the news that they fixed the track to make it safer. That's why the IOC said that the track is fine. I am sad that he died on his trial run, but it is known that luge can be a dangerous sport. He must have known the potential dangers of the sport.
I'm really looking forward to more speed skating this afternoon and tonight! And I'm ecstatic about figure skating!
