^^ I know, I thought that was hilarious!

Spoiler
I think Hurley is going to somehow sacrifice himself to save Jack/the island/something. If Ben "goes down with the ship" I think that will be a satisfying end to his Island timeline.

Spoiler
I guess it's going to end up Jack/Kate, Sawyer/Juliet, in the other timeline. Cause Sawyer/Juliet are 99% sure to have their flashbacks when they see eachother! I was never a "Jate" shipper but I decided it was simply because I didn't like Jack, not because I thought he and Kate would be so awful. ;))

Spoiler
Yup, Juliet&Sawyer! Their "meet up" was pretty sweet, and although I didn't feel too emoitional about it I could see how that would be easy. While I liked their relationship I just never got as into it because they only were together...the fifth? season....unlike all the other characters/pairings who had been around much longer. But yeah, I'm happy they're together now.

You called it, Valiant_Lucy, regarding

Spoiler
Juliet and Sawyer! And I like the reference to - and implied fulfillment of - one of her last lines from this season's Island reality, about 'going dutch' for coffee. Very nice.

I think I

Spoiler
like how this is shaping up but I still want to see Charlotte and Dan end up together, as long as they seem to be resolving these things. ;)

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Gazer--I was just about to mention

Spoiler
Juliet's dying words about "going for coffee"! :D And I agree about Dan and Charlotte together. The more I think about it, the more I really like them, even more then I did when they were actually on the show, if that makes sense. :P I want to go back and rewatch their parts...

I think it's kind of lame that

Spoiler
Jack got most of his flashbacks with Kate. I mean, it was never like he and Kate were this huge couple like Sun/Jin, Charlie/Claire, Juliet/Sawyer...oh well.

Spoiler
Hmm, I SO knew that Hurley was going to be the new Jacob. I remember when Jack volunteered I was surprised, like "really?", and when Flocke said he was surprised becuase Jack seemed like the obvious choice, I knew that something was up. Also, Hurley had an actual friendship with Jacob, Jack never knew him. And we already know Hurley would make a really awesome leader, yay!

Spoiler
I just read on another Lost board someone saying "does this mean Jack is the new smokey?" Because going in there was what turned Smokey into Smokey, right? K, pitting Hurley against Jack seems a bit random and unfair!

Okay. It's over and....

Spoiler
I'm confused. :-s My understanding of it is that the entire island thing was a dream? Like pergatory? And that CHristian said they "needed eachother"? Is that why the whole thing happened?! Arghhh!!! Answers!! I thought we'd have everythign explained. Should have know better. ;)) Overall I'm quite happy with it though. I'm curious about the whole Smokey/Jacob blahblah parts, like if it was pergatory, was all that just a made up dream on their parts? How long were Hurley and Ben on the island for??

EDIT:

Spoiler
Thinking about it more (and reading as many Lost sites that will actually work to get onto!)...so, everything happened as it did, but the alternate reality was a place they made for themselves to meet up once they all died? As Christian said, not everyone died at the same time, they just died eventually...which is kinda confusing. I think I kinda get it, and I like it. :D The show was always about the characters, although this ending kind of (to me) disregards all the crazy timetravel/island/Flocke/smokey/etcetc stuff...kinda. And I absolutly adored the reunion shots, except that we hardly saw Penny and Desmond at all! :O While that didn't really upset me I know a lot of people were holding out hope for something of them, and we got hardly nothing.

When I first started the show I thought

EDIT: I feel like a fool! Jimmy Kimmel's alternate endings were just made up comedy skits with the cast. :))

I'd been under the impression,

Spoiler
from earlier episodes and commentaries on the DVDs etc, that the writers have indicated that "they're dead" or in purgatory or other after-life places was *not* going to be the resolution (for example, Anthony Cooper says that in the season 3 episode where he dies).

Perhaps it means those alive in the flash-sideways reality were in purgatory or whatever, since they were already dead - having died on the island in earlier seasons, or perhaps when Juliet detonated the bomb at the end of season 5.

I suppose that's one way of resolving the existence of "duplicate" characters in both realities at series' end (like Hurley and Ben, who do seem to survive on the Island).

I don't like a straight "they died" ending and everything since then is a dream or the afterlife (which seems different than what was done here); in my opinion it cheapens everything they've experienced in the meantime. Ditto for the "snowglobe" ending - a la St Elsewhere - which was referenced in-series by Desmond, and was denied once upon a commentary (season 2 I believe).

edit: yeah, what Gymnfan says more clearly in her post below. ;)) :)

For whatever it's worth, here's some speculation on the finale that I think makes sense and may answer your question, Val.

Spoiler
One board that I was reading on seems to think that the Island isn't "purgatory" or the "in-between place"; the alternate reality is. Everything that happened on the Island really happened, and the alt reality was the way of "putting everyone back together" before they could move on to Heaven. Just because they were all together at the end doesn't mean that they all died at the same time.

That being said, it makes less sense as I type it. ;) But I think it's the most plausible explanation, because it's the only way to NOT "erase" the entire show. But like I said, I don't really know. I'll have to watch the episode myself to see for sure.

ETA: 'gazer seems to have beaten me to the point, and has explained it far better than I could. ;)) Crazy, crazy show.

Okay, what you guys said definetly makes sense. I'm trying to wrap my head around this. I like this, I'm just trying to...well, wrap my head around it. ;))

Spoiler
I thought the scene where Hurley asks Ben to be his "helper" was possibly one of my top scenes (next to the Charlie/Claire scene). Ben is my second favorite character, and I was sososo happy for him to get a happy ending! This is exactly what he wanted, and what he'll be good at. And Hurley's smart enough not to take any nonsense from him should he try.

edit:

On a lost board, someone wrote:

Spoiler
"Maybe the message is something like: you get born, you die, and the only important things in between are your connections with others during the time you've got. The other stuff doesn't matter, which is why we didn't get any answers. Because in life you don't get many answers either, and then you die."
Which I think sums it up pretty nicely. :)

Spoiler
At first I was wondering why Miles, Charlotte, Daniel, etc weren't included, when Penny was...however I think it's because Penny belongs with Desmond, so she has to go with him...he's what matters to her. But the others have their own "important people". And didn't Eliose say something like "Are you taking my son?" to Desmond, to which he replied "No"?

I don't want to know anything but this:

How many minutes long was the finale (excluding ads)?
Also, did the finale have a big-budget look?

Don't tell me anything spoilery. Thanks

Rest easy, Losties! The 'alternate' endings on JKL are humorous ones, with Darlton talking about "rejected" show endings which spoof Survivor, The Sopranos, and Bob Newhart.

Warrior, I thought the finale had a big-budget look. I was pleased with its appearance. I attempted to record it without commercials, and it's about 1:45 (105 minutes) in length, give or take a few.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Awesome! Thanks stargazer.
I'll have to check out JKL's special after I've watched the finale on Thursday night. I hope it's available somewhere.
Between uni and watching The Twilight Zone and Twin Peaks, I should be okay. :p Until then, I'll have to be extremely careful to stay away from spoilers.

yeah, i just edited my earlier post about these endings, to clear up before anything. I feel like a fool, I expected real fake endings, but it's better this way. :p
