Wow, I think that's the best explanation for the whispers I've seen yet. That's one of the few elements of the show I've really had no explanation for, but that idea works for me, especially considering the sixth season takes place in an alternate reality.

That was a pretty insightful article, especially as it was written before the additional revelations of the past 2 seasons.

I like his advice regarding the TNG episode "Cause and Effect" as being relevant here. If you haven't seen it, I also recommend it, even if you're not really into Trek. I think I'll watch it a little later today...

Spoiler
We'd speculated that the whispers might be from the Island somehow, in that they often seem to precede a brief appearance from someone who has died (or whose present status is unknown to the survivors, like Walt), or imminent danger - both things out of the realm of the ordinary, just like the island itself.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Yes, I'm definitely not a Star Trek fan (more Star Wars than anything else). But I'm curious about the episode. I'll be watching it.

LOST Season 6 begins soon. Please post all Season 6 content and anything from that season that gives answers to other seasons, in spoiler tags. Thank you.

I feel so dreadful you can't see it yet, Warrior. :( It isn't posted online somewhere (legal)?

AHH LOST TONIGHT AHHH AHHH AHHH *SQUEEEEEEEE* ;)) :P

Thanks for the sympathy Valiant_Lucy. I don't think it will be posted online legally and I don't do torrents. Oh well. I'll just have to avoid many sites during this time (DarkUFO, LOSTpedia and the rest) and only read and comment on LOST posts here a week later.

Just out of curiosity what time is it where you are? Doesn't the catch-up episode start at 8/7central?

You're right, Warrior, the recap episode begins at 7 pm Central, which is my time zone. It's currently 1822 (we're GMT-6). I'll try to peek in here as the episodes go on tonight (at least during commercial breaks ;) ) to check for spoilers.

I watched TNG's "Cause and Effect" earlier today -

Spoiler
relevant not only due to the whispers - which were a very interesting plot use in this story - but also the multiple timelines used in Lost season 5
followed by "The Incident."

Random observations: things I watched for were

Spoiler
Jacob touching everyone he meets in those flashbacks; an exception seemed to be Ilana, but their conversation implied to me that they'd already met, in which case that contact may have already occurred off-camera.

And with Val's spoiler on the previous page in mind,

Spoiler
I watched for Juliet's encounter with Rose and Bernard, and her "hand on her tummy." It may indeed be that she's pregnant. And the clothes young Juliet and Rachel wore in their flashback can be seen here. In this case I suspect that any non-period appropriateness may be a continuity thing as opposed to a significant time-travel hint. Perhaps we'll find out tonight. :)

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

gazer, about your second spoiler in your above post:

Spoiler
I read somewhere a theory that in that particular scene, it is NOT Jacob who visits Ilana, but it is "Black Shirt". If you'll notice, not only does he not touch Ilana, but he is wearing gloves. Black gloves. And he sits in a white chair (throughout Lost, there is constant examples of black vs white). And Ilana looks startled, a bit frightened, I thought.

And what exactly did you mean by

Spoiler
"I suspect that any non period appropriateness may be a continuity thing"?
I just don't quite understand what you mean.

Thanks for that first comment, Val. Now I should watch that scene again. Ugh! ;)

My second spoiler related as to whether

Spoiler
Juliet and Rachel's flashback clothing was 70s appropriate. I meant that even if it wasn't it was probably an error as opposed to a significant plot point.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

It is...almost 8 o'clock here, EST. It doesn't start until nine though, and goes till eleven. I probably wouldn't watch the catch-up episode even if I could (We have company currently occupying the living room--hopefully we can kick them out for nine! :P) since I watched the last season finale last week. :)

EDIT:

This article is entitled the "42 Unanswered Questions". Here's the link:
http://jezebel.com/5461792/lost-42-unanswered-questions
The article does contain some swearing and I wouldn't reccomend the rest of the site for being "family friendly", so I'm quoting some of it here for those of you who don't want to read the entire thing there. :) Not entirely sure how spoilerly this is, but here we go:

Spoiler
1.) When are they now?
2.) What is the Smoke Monster?
3.) Is Claire dead?
4.) What's with the food drops?
5.) Who ran over Sayid's wife?
6.) What's the loophole?
7.) Who built the statue?
8.) Who was Ben having Sayid kill?
9.) How did the DHARMA barracks get updated furnishings?
10.) What's the significance of Ben's painting?
11.) Why did the Others speak Latin?
12.) How did Charlie appear to Hurley?
13.) What's the significance of the Numbers?
14.) Why does Eloise Hawking have a different last name than her son Daniel Faraday?
15.) Why doesn't Daniel Faraday have a British accent?
16.) Why doesn't Daniel have a relationship with his father Charles Widmore?
17.) Who is Penny's mother?
18.) Why did Christian's body disappear but Locke's did not?
19.) Why can't women on the Island give birth?
20.) What's inside the Temple?
21.) Why doesn't Richard age?
22.) Who is Ilana?
23.) Who built the ancient time wheel?
24.) Why does Miles have a different last name from his father, Dr. Chang?
25.) Why does Widmore want to get back to the Island so badly?
26.) Why didn't Eloise want to return to the Island?
27.) Who funded DHARMA?
28.) What's the Ann Arbor station like?
29.) Why does Walt have special powers?
30.) Why does Miles hear dead people?
31.) How did Claire's mother recover from her irreversible coma?
32.) What dangerous mission was Christian on in Australia that he needed a body guard?
33.) Why was Amy (Horace's wife) so obsessed with "the children"?
34.) Was Karl conceived on the Island?
35.) If so, how and by whom?
36.) Libby!?!?!?!?!?
37.) Why did Jacob need to touch certain castaways in their flashbacks?
38.) Is Bram really a good guy?
39.) What's fake Locke's plan?
40.) Geronimo Jackson!?!?!?!?!
41.) How did Eko's drug plane land on the Island?
42.) How did Eloise and Charles come to live on the Island?

From the same site, here's a very extensive and enjoyable recap of the season 5 finale:
http://jezebel.com/5256090/lost-finale- ... ed-herring
(There are one or two tiny swearwords, nothing too major or offensive)

And my final link... from Lostpedia, explains the themes of black & white throughout Lost and gives examples from every season. Very interesting!
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Black_and_white

And another thought...

Spoiler
Remembering the "red herring" that Black Shirt and Jacob are cooking on the beach in the beginning of last season's finale, what is the red herring? One theory (can you tell I spend way too much time reading Lost theories) I liked was that it's about who the good guys are. I think at some point Frank says that those who announce themselves as the "good guys" are usually the bad guys. And think about it, all thru that episode it's been Jacob = white, good. Black shirt = black, bad. Maybe it's the other way around??

*will finally end this post* ;))

I just watched the Star Trek NG episode 'Cause and Effect'. It was fascinating and yes, it could be very relevant to where LOST is/has been heading.

The episode can be found here:

Valiant_Lucy we will be getting answers to the big mysteries, but not all the mysteries. In effect I understand why they'd do such a thing. To answer everything would be to negate the very mystery, the main appeal of the show. But we do need answers. Especially to early season mysteries like - the importance of Walt and baby Aaron. Also, what Smokey is, what the list is about and why the Others took the children.

Farewell all. I must depart this thread to avoid spoilers. Remember to use spoiler tags. See you again come February 10 or 11. God Bless!

Sooo... *SQUEEEEEEE*

I'll just jump right in

SEASON SIX SPOILERS!!!!

Spoiler
1: Is MIB (Man in Black) "inside" Sayid now? Several people on blogs have thought this and also thought that his voice didn't sound very Sayid-ish. I thought he sounded ok when I first heard it, but it makes sense. MIB would be able to get past the circle of ashes, prolly. And at first I was like "Well would he be able to be FakeLocke AND Sayid at the same time?" but he's able to be FakeLocke while the REAL Locke is still lying there dead on the sound, which is pretty weird to have doubles of Locke, soo...I thought it was pretty lame how we had to have Miles have the whole "I talk to Dead People" scene to find out Juliet said "It worked". Why couldn't she have just told Sawyer this? Wouldn't that have been easier? I don't really think that scene "built" anything onto the plot, that I can see. But nothing is insignifigant with Lost...I'm wondering if Ben is going to follow FakeLocke now, cause he's the one in charge. I thought FakeLocke's speech about how pathetic RealLocke was was pretty sad :'(

EDIT: An enterprising youtuber has complied clips from SEASON SIX SPOILERS

Spoiler
the first episode of season one, to compare with the latest episode, of Jack and everyone in the plane

This has spoilers!!

... r_embedded

Spoiler
More thoughts: Desmond was on the plane. Why? Maybe cause in that reality there is no island, so he's free to travel...but then Jack wondered where he went, and nobody knew. So maybe he's "magical" or something, or maybe he was time-traveling and just ended up on the plane? I thought the reason why Jack felt so strongly that he'd seen him before was that he'd seen him NOT on the island before. Also, to go back to my "Sayid is being imbodied by MIB" theory, when Miles was sitting next to DeadSayid, he looked...confused. As if he couldn't "hear" him, or "Sense" him or something. Also, PLEASE tell me there is NOT going to be a resurection of the Sawyer/Kate/Jack triangle?? Terry O'Quin as Locke/FakeLocke was INCREDIBLE in this episode. He seriously MUST win some awards for this, SERIOUSLY. Maybe it's showing that even though they didn't crash (in the alternate reality) there lives are still woven together/destined to be sucky?

Sorry that's soooo crazy random. My thoughts are just spewing out and I'm typing as I'm thinking. ;))

Yup, lots of things happened, and some things revealed! I was lost at times. ;))

Minimal spoilers here, though, with the exception of mentioning this season's new literary/storytelling device:

Spoiler
I like it though I'm not sure how long it'll last (something like the skipping time early in season 5) - apparently there are divergent realities now in the same timeline on the island and following a successful flight 815 to LAX). Toward the end of the second hour I did notice a distinctive sound signaling this change.

Unlocke/Flocke revealed himself to be the Smoke Monster, and the ash circles were shown to be circles of protection.

Watch for the very interesting sequence right before the title card.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Maybe I shouldn't try to be unclear when I'm using spoilers anyway. ;))

Spoiler
I meant the "island is underwater" sequence, showing the sonic barrier, Dharmaville, the swingset, and the statue's toes, all underwater. I thought it was pretty cool. The title card is the black-and-white "LOST" that appears at the end of each teaser.

There was a lot of detail revealed this time, such as Richard (apparently) being a slave on the Black Rock (the reference to his chains). And Zach and Emma are with the people at the temple. And where is alternate-Christian now? I like "alternate" Jack's line to Locke that "Nothing is irreversible." He's referring to Locke's spine but it could also apply to their attempt to reset things via the Jughead.

And that reminds me of a blurb I heard a while back:

Spoiler
Why, in disaster shows/movies, is the answer always a nuclear bomb? Examples are the 10.5 made-for-TV earthquake movie, Armageddon, etc. And now, Lost. ;))

More on your added spoiler above, Val, as I didn't see it before posting this:

Spoiler
I too hope they don't return to Jack/Kate/Sawyer. Juliet and Sawyer went well together and I was disappointed in her quick departure tonight. Terry O'Quinn was very good tonight; I read somewhere he was glad to have a part with a stronger character than Locke has been of late. I hope alternate-Desmond's appearance - and disappearance - on 815 leads to more from him. I like his character. And I've heard Penny will appear in this season too. I'm just not sure what to make of Sayid's amazing recovery, unless it does indeed tie to the MIB. And I bet the alternate reality is somehow going to tie into the island one, even if they're not otherwise related. And where's Vincent? ;)

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

oh my. That was quite a ride.

Spoiler
Juliet! Those darn screenwriters. They like to tug on our hearts. "She's alive!" ... "Oh, now she's dead." Sad times.

There are a lot of people who are unaccounted for. Shannon just decided not to go to LA? Is that allowed? Why is Desmond on the plane? Where were all the tail people? Why did PlaneCharlie try to kill himself?

Here's a few answers we got though (helped by Val's post):

Spoiler
1.) When are they now? - the present of Ajira flight members...and the present of the Oceanic flight
2.) What is the Smoke Monster? - Unlocke!/MIB!
3.) Is Claire dead? - still uncertain about her in island time.
6.) What's the loophole? John Locke
8.) Who was Ben having Sayid kill? - doubt it will be answered
12.) How did Charlie appear to Hurley? - Not sure, but apparently it has something to do with Jacob.
18.) Why did Christian's body disappear but Locke's did not? - who knows? It's still missing!
20.) What's inside the Temple? - the "healing" pool. Plus one flight attendent, a dude who hates English, a man wearing Lennon glasses, and protection from MIB
22.) Who is Ilana? - Jacob's Body Guard?
39.) What's fake Locke's plan? - Kill Jacob... Take over island?

Gazer:

Spoiler
Good idea about Richard as a slave. I didn't think of that. That's probably true... Come to think of it, that list of Lost questions didn't ask about the Black Rock.

Final thoughts:

Spoiler
I love this show. I can't wait for the inevitable Jin/Sun reunion. Can we get rid of Miles now? He's boring. I love how Jack just went along with Hurley's crazy mission to save Sayid. He never would have done that before Locke taught him a few things. I got so happy when I saw Boone. He was the first person who died who we saw again and I celebrated. I really enjoy the Oceanic LAX timeline, but it's clear that something's not right. Locke's knives and Christian's casket. I feel like maybe Charlie's guitar ought to be missing too...

That's all I've got for tonight. It's late.
