I saw the first Toy Story when it came out. And yes I'm old enough to remember. That was back before they had the Pixar shorts so before the movie started there was a black and white cartoon short. I was about five years old. It was a fun experience and was even more fun when I saw the second movie and always had this fantasy of a third one. Well it came true. Yay!! I love Toy Story. I can't wait to see the third one.

I have no idea when I first saw Toy Story or Toy Story 2, but it was a while ago. I really really like Toy Story, and the sequel is pretty good too. My fave character is probably Woody. I'm excited for the third movie, but I can't tell if that's b/c I want to see it or b/c I want to see the trailer coming before it .
Oh hurrah, the Toy Story SF is open!
Honestly, I can't remember my first viewing on Toy Story. I was old enough to be around when it first came out, but I was still young enough that I can't remember it. So, for me, it's something I've known for as long as I can remember. That sounds terribly sentimental , but what I mean is that there has (basically) never been a time in my life were 3D animation was not around, so I've grown to love the medium very much. I feel like it's something I can look back on and say to my kids/grand kids "Hey, I was around when that was invented."
What amazes me about TS is the quality of it; it is actually better than the majority of the films of the same medium that were made after it. I read a review of the first TS recently where the reviewer was totally and completely cynical upon coming into his first viewing on TS. He was sure that it would be cheesy and that this new medium wouldn't work at all, of course, by the end, the reviewer was proven completely wrong, and that's because of the quality of the film. Toy Story still stands strong after all these years, because, as much as it was about the new medium and the amazing visuals, it was more about the characters, and the story. They didn't rely on their new medium to carry the film, even though it was revolutionary for the time.
Then there came TS 2. I do actually remember this one being release, although I still can't recall my first viewing of it, I just remember liking it. Admittedly, when I saw it, I was still at a stage where I didn't think of movies as an art form and couldn't really appreciate how amazing it was that there was virtually no drop in quality from TS 1 to TS 2. Now I certainly do. I could rant and rant, but instead I'll just quote "hip online" from there original review of TS 2:
"I pondered this statement all of the way home, but it rings true: 'Toy Story 2' may be the best comedy sequel I've ever seen." Again here I'm so impressed with Pixar real desire to keep quality the main drive behind there films. I'm sure many of you know that TS 2 was originally slated as a direct-to-video release by Disney, who forced Pixar to make the movie, despite the fact that the main masterminds behind Pixar were not involved. However, when some of the brilliant minds behind Pixar saw the footage and the noticeable lack of quality, they decided to take it upon themselves to redo the entire film, only 9 months before its release. I think it's incredible that they were so dedicated to keeping their films top notch that they took such pressure upon themselves. I truly believe if TS 2 had been released as planned, Pixar would not be making quality films to this day. I think I still ranted.
Last of all there is TS 3. From everything I've seen I think this one is going to be every bit as good as the first two! Only two more days until we find out for sure!

Well,
Toy Story came out when I was 10yrs old. It was big! Everyone had the toys, except me. I didn't even want to see the movie. Why? I liked regular 2D cartoons, which is what I grew up with, I wasn't ready for the new thing- CGI.
Ten years later, the DVD came out for the 10yr anniversary, no longer in VHS age, and now being a Pixar fan I bought it and for the first time I saw it, then 20yrs old. I then followed by buying Toy Story 2 and saw it, also for the first time. Though these should've been the first Pixar movies I saw, they weren't (with A Bug's Life between them of course).
now I eagerly wait for Friday, finally here! almost. I love Toy Story!!
I was a little older when Toy Story was released, but unabashedly stood in line at the cinema to get tickets for both it, and its sequel. (As NL101 pointed out, Toy Story 2 is mighty unusual in that it's at least as good as (some say it's better) than the original it follows.
I wonder if, in hindsight, the arrival of Toy Story might eventually be seen as a watershed event in movie-making, much as the release of Star Wars now is. It revolutionized animation, making CGI seem more realistic, than the old stop-motion type films of previous decades. And it's unleashed a whole crop of other films, not ony worthy efforts from Pixar itself, but from other companies like DreamWorks.
All this aside, the Toy Story movies are among my favorite Pixar films and I am looking forward to the 3rd installment in the series.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Wonderful, a Toy Story SF!
I first saw the first Toy Story... a while ago. I know I definitely did not see it in theatres, but when I was fairly young. I remember nothing from the first viewing but I do remember how it minorly "impacted" my life and taught me to be kind to my toys, lest my fate should be identical to Sid(?). (Not that I was half as wicked with them...)
I believe I've seen Toy Story 2, as well, but I can't remember it.
Anywho, I'm very excited for the third, and I'm eager to see the CGI improve in comparison with the first! No doubts that it's going to be good.

Like NL101, I don't remember the first time I saw Toy Story. However, I do remember the first time I saw Toy Story 2. My dad took my siblings and I to the theater (we rarely went to the movies, so it was a real treat), and I remember loving it. At the time, I didn't like the Star Wars reference (I don't know why), but now I really enjoy the parody.
I am very excited to see Toy Story 3. We already have our tickets ordered. I was hoping to see it in 2D because 3D tends to make my eyes ache, but our theater is only showing it in 3D. But minor things like that are not going to stop me from seeing it.
I can remember exactly how old I was and where I was for when both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 came out in theaters. The first Toy Story definitely had more childlike memories for me, still being a kid when it came out. I can remember taking my sheriff Woody doll in the car on the ride over to the theater and after seeing the film, I can recall a couple occasions of leaving my room and quietly tip-toeing back in to see if my toys had started moving around. It's amazing how much of an effect the film could have, it didn't just feel real, it was real. Gotta love the ride over to Pizza Planet scene ("Safer in the cockpit than the cargo bay, what an idiot" . It's only a few seconds of animation, but it's probably one of my favorite parts of the film.
The real thing that I remember seeing the second film in theaters was when Geri (from Geri's Game) showed up at Al's door. My mom and I just turned to each other and started laughing.
My favorite character from both films has always been Woody. The hard plastic toys like Buzz would always have a limb fall off. Softer toys like Woody are just more fun to play with because they can take so much more "damage" and not break. I always find it interesting on the character design Pixar chose for this film. The choices are so obvious, but yet so brillant. My favorite is the personality type for Mr. Potato Head. Of course, if you were constantly losing all your pieces, you'd be cranky too. I also found it interesting that Woody started off as being a ventriloquist dummy instead of a cowboy. It's so fitting in a match up to Buzz when it was suggested to change Woody to a cowboy. Too perfect.
I really wish that when the tallies for ticket stubs are being counted for Toy Story 3, there was some way to comare the age group as well. I would really like to know if there are more sales of tickets for those of us who grew up on the films or for the kids now going in who have no idea who these characters are. Maybe it's bad for me to say, but I really don't even care about the VDT before Toy Story 3, I'm just excited for the film (hey, it's online before it'll be in theaters, so that's not too bad ).

what I remember most is I wanted a buzz lightyear for Christmas so bad that year and all the stores were sold out. My parents had to overnight one form Disney World. They waited for almost an hour after all the other presents had been opened to give it to me. It started a long string of running gags for my Christmas presents every year after

Gotta love the ride over to Pizza Planet scene ("Safer in the cockpit than the cargo bay, what an idiot" . It's only a few seconds of animation, but it's probably one of my favorite parts of the film.
LOL!
I know that is one of my favorite scene too, plus the one when the bad kid starts screaming after he was ganged up by the other toys.

I was like 6 months old when the first one come out. I didn't watch it to around the time the 2nd oen came out. Back then movies took ages to come out on dvd/video.
Both me and my brother grew up with the first two and were crazy about it. We had a bunch of the toys (I think we had 5 Buzz Lightyears, lol) and the Nintendo 64 video game, I remember playing that for hours.
I've lost count how many times I've seen the movies over the years. Lookin forward to the 3rd one very much
I love Rex, the dinosaur! he makes me laugh so hard! I love how he says "Can somebody cover my eyes?"
