Love Sherlock Holmes! I've read a couple of his stories and I watched a few episodes of the old tv series. It was really great. I also have some audiotapes :) .

Hurray, a SF for Sherlock Holmes! :) I am a relatively new fan of Sherlock Holmes, only really coming to appreciate him/the stories in 2009. My brother was a fan before me, and I also knew a little about his more popular cases thanks to some abridged versions. Since then, though, I have read all of the unabridged stories, which I have, for the most part, greatly enjoyed and found them very cleverly written. :)

My brother and I are also fans of the Jeremy Brett adaptations, which we think did an excellent job at capturing Sherlock Holmes. :) We haven't seen them all though, although for the year, and again this year, they've been showing them every Saturday evening on our PBS channel, so we've seen almost every one they've shown. The ones we missed were because of hockey games- our favourite team always plays on Saturday evenings through out the fall/winter/early spring, so we were loath to miss the hockey games because of Sherlock Holmes. ;))

Ooo! Oooo! Oooo! I love Sherlock Holmes!
When I was little I read a compiled version of the Hound of the Baskervilles, and I loved it, I'm still waiting to read the long version.

My favorite short story is "The Adventure of the Speckled Band." We read it last semester for Detective Fiction in school. I loved it!

Oooh horray!!! I really like the Sherlock Holmes stories. I've read several of them but I don't think I have a favorite. I thought the one where he got beat by a woman was really good just because he got beat by a woman!!! :p I haven't seen the new movie but I'd like to sometime.

I'm a recent fan too (I started reading them at the beginning of the new year) but I've been reading them almost constantly now, they're fantastic! Holmes is such an interesting character, he's probably one of my favorites of all time.

I think I saw part of a movie once...it wasn't bad (it was from the 1930's) the only thing I didn't really like was how they portrayed Watson, but other than that it was good :) I'm really hoping to see the movie that just came out with Robert Downey Jr., although I was kinda disappointed after reading that it wasn't really based on a specific Holmes case though.

greenleaf, take my advice and avoid that movie with Robert Downey Jr. I was bored the other day and picked it up.

Ok... so I've read just about every story out there and have been a huge fan of the radio shows for years. Basil Rathbone or Tom Conway were probably my favorite of the actors who portrayed Holmes over the years.

I enjoy Sherlock Holmes stories! Go wolfloversk, we favor the same story! I just love "The speckled band", I got chills up and down my spine!

I also like "A scandal in Bohemia". And it was this fondness of this story that caused me to see the 2009 film, as Irene Adler is one of my top-favorite Holmes characters, even thogh she appears only once... well, I must say that as a Sherlock Holmes wannabe story it definitely sucks, though as a film itself, tying loosely to Sherlock Holmes and showing another way of interpreting him was not so bad. At any rate, music by Hans Zimmer was beyond gorgeous! :D

I'll probably be lynched here, but I definitely dislike Jeremy Brett, for some reason he was nothing I imagined Sherlock Holmes to be.

Oh, well, reading Sherlock Holmes stories is better than watching any adaptation, I guess ;)

I've seen the movie 9 times!!! (PC)
I've seen the movie 7 times!!! (VoDT) And loved it!

Well, I've actually been a fan for a while and I believe I've read all of the cases, having found a huge "Complete" volume at the local library several years ago.

The Speckled Band was one of the first I read, and I sure got chills too! Another hair-raising one is the Adventure of the Copper Beeches (I believe it's called).
I've always wondered about the story of the giant "Rat of Sumatra, for which the world is not yet ready." Just that line gives me shivers! :D

It's been a while since I read a Sherlock Holmes story. I think I need to get that book out from the library again; I only own a thin little collection.

Books: I'm still trudging through the second volume we have from Barnes and Nobles. I set it down for a LONG while, btw, to anyone who remembers me saying something like this a year ago. ;)) I enjoy the books a lot. :D :D

Movies: We have an older black and white version of a few... I don't think they're too popular. Let me check who plays Holmes... Ok, Ronald Howard.

I am a Sherlock Holmes fan through watching the old Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce movies on TV while growing up. So for many years, their portrayal of Holmes and Watson were the only ones I knew. And because they were so good together, they are still my ideal pair.

I did see the new movie version with Robert Downey Jr. and enjoyed it. But that was because I knew it would be different and prepared myself mentally beforehand. Otherwise, I probably would have had the same reaction as starkat.

As far as the books go, I bought the first volume of stories years ago but never read it. :( But I plan on reading it after finishing my current book:
