Why did I write out the year like that? Why-oh-why? Cause next month is going to be the month of crazy screenwriting, that's why, and in screenplays you have to write out your numbers!

Dun-duh-duh-DAH! That's write right, ladies and gentlemen! It's what you've all been waiting for, that month of insanity that nearly tops NaNoWriMo in it's craziness because half of us don't know what in the world we're doing!

It's
SCRIPT FRENZY!

Script Frenzy is a bit like National Novel Writing Month. It's created by the same people, has much of the same insanity, etc. The website can be found at http://www.scriptfrenzy.org , and will give you the lowdown a lot better than I can.

It has a challenge that'll nearly blow your mind: you've got to write a hundred pages of script in only THIRTY days. That's right. Thirty. It can be any kind of script you want: screenplay, teleplay, audio drama, comic book, etc...it just has to reach the goal for your writing to win!

Screnzy (as I so affectionately call it) is not for the faint of heart, but it's not just for the experienced scriptwriters, either! It's an awesome way to jump into writing scripts and the site gives you lots of resources to get a vague picture of how to do it.

So are you with me? Let's do this thing!

"Let the music cast its spell,
give the atmosphere a chance.
Simply follow where I lead;
let me teach you how to dance."

ooh I would love to try! I tried NaNoWriMo in November and failed miserably But I'm hesitating... first of all, because of all the homework I have to do and, more importantly, because I have the hardest time writing scripts/plays! And this is weird because I usually have a lot of dialogue in my prose... but the minute someone says, "only dialogue!" I freeze up and can't seem to come up with anything good. But who knows, this could turn into a great experience... I just need to be convinced to try :D

I've been writing for a long time, but I've only officially participated in NaNo the last 2 years (with that first 'win' coming just last November).

I've not tried Screnzy before, primarily because prose is my style...but that recent Script Frenzy email from the sponsors mentioned adapting your NaNo story into a script. Now there's something I'm tempted to try! (Though this first attempt may go down in flames ;)) )

But April means spring is finally coming here, with all its accompanying temptations to be outside before the mosquitoes hatch. ;)) So, we'll see. :)

So... a hundred pages? What exactly qualifies as a page? Technically I can put one word on each page, and have a hundred words, and qualify. :P How does that work? What does it have to be to be considered a page?

I am... considering doing Script Frenzy.

But I have no idea whether it'd be for a graphic novel-type thing or an animated short; and if I'd have enough material for a hundred pages. And naturally, I'd want to carry through and, you know, draw a bunch of it. Someday. Probably not also in April. ;))

I'm in. I failed NaNo twice :p , and this is my first year doing SF. I already am planning out what I will write about, character details, etc. I plan to have a poster and a trailer. If anyone is interested in being in my SF trailer, I need four boys/young men ages 12-24, and a girl about the age of twelve. :D

Riella, you also have to have [about?] 20,000 words... ;) ;))

Lu :)

P.S. What are your SF user-names? Mine is Wonder Writer. I'd love to be buddies w/ all of the Script Frenziers (like my new word? lol) on NW!

I really, really, really, really want to try Script Frenzy. I've been writing screenplays off and on since I was 14 but haven't done anything recently because of college. I really want to get back into it (and hopefully come up with something that's half-way decent for a change ;)) ). But I have two really long school trips in April, and I'll have to do a lot of catchup work as it is to make up for those trips. And there's all the Holy Week services that I'm sure choir will be singing at. And I don't really have a workable plot at the moment. Well, even if I don't attempt it, I'll be cheering everyone else on from the sidelines!

I've been thinking about this, but i don't think i can do it this year. I've scribbled out some scripts, but nothing too fabulous, and we'll be taking a trip trans-state right in the middle of April for the better part of a week.

Maybe next year. Best wishes to everyone who's doing it!

I laugh in the face of NaNoWriMo, but the one year I did Screnzy, it kicked my butt. ;)) Seriously, I was not meant to write scripts...dialogue is not my strong suit.

I may go insane and attempt it again another year, but this April is going to be mad busy. How are you all going to manage with Doctor Who AND VdT releasing in the same month!?!?!

I would love to do Script Frenzy this year, unfortunately, I will be gone for the last 2 weeks of April. This year it's just not possible for me to do it. ;)

I'll be cheering on everyone that does participate! You can do it!!! :D

Oh to participate or not to participate? That is the question!

Seriously, if I try I'm just gonna fail miserably because I have HW, AAW, Cotton~Tales, and various other writing projects. I'm definitely doing NaNo I think this year, but why can't these people schedual things a month or two later?! I'm in college people! Finals are in May and December!!!

I might try but I'm not gonna get very far lol.

EDIT

And I schedualed Narnia Read-A-Thon for Mid April....hmmmm maybe I should move it...

Well, you only have to get about 600, 700 words done a day if I did my figures right. Still, that's a lot harder to do in a script than in a novel... :)

It's a lot less writing than NaNo, believe it or not, even though the format is different. As for the length of a page? I'd say it's roughly the lenght of a Microsoft Word page, but since the formatting is different it's a lot shorter word-wise. The Screnzy site has a Word document formatted all nicely for screenwriting for you, all ready to download! There's also a nifty program called CeltX that they link to (which is free to download, I might add!) which helps a LOT with formatting.

I've learned so much about screenwriting in the past year both from doing it and reading scripts! I found a treasure trove of Doctor Who scripts just by typing in "Read Doctor Who Scripts Online" into my google search.

What about ideas, everyone? What are you thinking to write ABOUT?
