Kate,
As far as the not so family-friendly content in The Social Network, yeah some of it I could have done without. But the law and business portion of it was absolutely amazing- which is why I loved the movie as much as I did. It's one that will definitely go into my collection.

As for Never Let Me Go I previously wrote:

Never Let Me Go, very good movie with solid acting. Though I admit to having wanted more than what I got. 7/10 stars.

I will extend on that however since I said precious little. :p
Carey Mulligan was terrific, I loved her every moment. And I actually quite like her more in this than in An Education (in which she did a terrific job).

Keira Knightley I really like, and I enjoyed her. But her role lacked something, which made her role not work out 100%.

Andrew Garfield. I first saw him last year in a movie I rented: Boy A. very good movie. Then I finally saw him in The Social Network, he was my favorite in it. And last Never Let Me Go. The guy is a terrific actor! I truly feel he deserves an Oscar nomination this year. TSN is my first choice, but NLMG- his role was less, had less to say, but he was very effective nonetheless and was just as great in this one.

The story was very very sad. never having read the book I didn't know what to expect. So when it hit me, it crushed me. I didn't love the movie however, but it WAS very good.

(and yes, this movie is rated R for some scenes not kid friendly.)- But you should be fine of course. ;)

I had a chance to see Secretariat this weekend and enjoyed it a lot, even though I'm not really a 'horse person.' Pluses include some beautiful cinematography, good casting and chemistry between characters (especially, it seemed to me, between Diane Lane as Penny and Margo Martindale as Miss Ham).

I was pleasantly surprised by the quote from Job at the beginning, and the movie's reasonably-accurate portrayal of the events - the big events, anyway. The clothes, big old cars, and the music was a bit of a 'blast from the past' as I was a teenager when Secretariat raced. (I remember some of the buzz surrounding the Triple Crown that year, but admittedly I didn't pay attention to many of the details. Keep in mind there weren't as many news outlets back then ;) ).

I did notice the additions to the Churchill Downs building, and while I suspected it was an anachronism, I wasn't sure. And I also noticed a couple shots with jockeys standing up in their stirrups, but I'm not horse-savvy enough to recognize it as a slowing-down maneuver.

As kat also mentions, I was surprised by its PG rating...I didn't catch any objectionable language and the dancing scene was short and silly.

Also, watch for a cameo from the real Penny in the stands (shown near the end in the "what happened to them afterwards" scenes).

I liked it better than Seabiscuit, which I should probably try watching again sometime.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Just read about Secretariat's rating:

Secretariat was given a PG rating for "brief mild language".

I am at a loss of where this occurred.

Thanks narnian1 for elaborating. I missed your first mention of it. Your comments confirmed what I expected from the movie: sad, great acting, pretty good movie. (I'm looking forward to seeing what Andrew Garfield does as Peter Parker). I'm really surprised that you were slightly thrown off by Kiera Knightley's role as Ruth. Ruth is by far the most well-defined character in the book. She's a queen bee, smarter than her peers and a natural leader. She manipulates people and ignores friends when it's convenient, but at the same time, she relies on those friends for support in private and can be a pretty good friend at times. Compared to her, Tommy and Kathy look rather pale actually. I wonder if she just wasn't written well, or if Knightley had a hard time with it.

Kate,
Keira Knightley's role just wasn't written well for the screen, I say this because on another site I go to (an Oscar Watch site), someone who read the book stated this. Said person was disappointed with the movie because alot of the complexity/richness of the book was absent from the movie.

As for Andrew Garfield, I am also looking forward to his role as Peter Parker. I'm not keen on a reboot so soon, but he is a great upcoming actor and I'd like to see how he evolves. He has Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus in which he had a role, not sure how big. I didn't care to see the movie, but it will soon be available instantly through netflix so it can't hurt to give it a try. And he has this other movie that is already available instantly but I'm not sure if I want to see it.

I know this isn't a present movie, but since you mentioned The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus I might as well mention it. I thought it was a very good movie, and very, very strange. Typical Terry Gilliam film. Andrew Garfield is one of the main characters, but his role isn't that big compared to some of the other actors. He does, however, do a very good job with it. Not as good as his performance in The Social Network in my opinion, though. Heath Ledger really steals the show, and Christopher Plummer does a good job as the title character as well.

Just read about Secretariat's rating:

Secretariat was rated PG because "In speaking of another character, Lucien says he “couldn’t train a monkey to pick his own butt” and “couldn’t train his own bowel movements.”
That's it. That's all the language :p

Well, today I saw Legend of the Guardians- visually AMAZING. The story was a little rushed in parts, but because the movie was based off three books, that's understandable. Overall, I loved it.
And I NEED that Owl City song on my iPod *is an Owl City geek* :)

Brisa, ah yes! I remember that part. While it's not bad, I did find it sort of out of place with the rest of the movie. But I admit it was so small I forgot about it entirely.

Legend of the Owls, I want to see that. Originally planned to see it in theaters, haven't read the books, but I changed my mind and decided to wait for rental. Glad to hear it's good.

ps. Welcome to Narniaweb :)

I want to watch Like Dandelion Dust...love the book and the trailer looked good.

You mean the book by Karen Kingsbury?! I have that book! I had no idea they were making a movie out of it...
When does it come out?

It's in theaters now. Here's the offical website-http://www.likedandeliondust.com/. If you go to the theater link on the left side of the page and select your state it will show all of the theaters for your state.

I really want to see it too, but sadly it's only in a couple of theaters in my state and I can't go to either one. :-s Guess I'll have to wait for the DVD.

I'm going to see Secretariat when I'm on fall break. I am a huge horse-racing nut, so I'm looking forward to it. Seabiscuit was good too, except for one scene with his jockey and this woman that I could have honestly done without.

I saw Conviction today, I really enjoyed it. Thought it was great. Hilary Swank did a good job, I loved Minnie Driver. Sam Rockwell was excellent, and hopefully he finally gets an Oscar nomination. I definitely recommend this one. It doesn't feel too heavy, despite the topic- but I loved that about it.
