Loving all the poetry here; especially What She Saw, Gladius. Really thought provoking, after reading Till We Have Faces. :)

Ah! Can't believe I haven't visited this thread before!!! :p I'm loving all the poetry here! :D I need to go back and read all the pages. :p

Anyways. Here's something I wrote when I was... 14. So a couple years back, but it's what I feel like posting. :p Later I'll do something more recent probably...

The Sun will Shine Again

The sky turns gray, than black
The sky fills with icy rain
Deeply the thunder rolls
But the sun will shine again.

Dark trees stand, their shadows cast
They seem to weep with pain
Though it seems to last forever
The sun will shine again

And through the storms of life
By your side I will remain
As long as you need me to
And the sun will shine again

And always forever remember
That I will be your friend
And God also is with you-
The sun will shine again.

Edit: Here's a poem I wrote within the last year, but I was interrupted in the middle of it and never finished... :p But I sorta like the idea of it. :p

Happy People

They're smiling and laughing as they run to their car
Groceries swinging and hair rippling
They open the door and cram on inside
Windows down and that happy music playing

They run and tackle each other with a big BF's hug
And they're joking and having so much fun
They're practically falling over they're so glad
And their worries- yeah, about that- there's none

Seems like everybody's happy except me today
Yeah, everybody's happy except me

... Yeah, I guess it's sorta sad. :p

Thanks Elanor!!

-So. One of my friends and I used to write poetry together, we'd each take about two lines, and make a story out of it. IMO, the products are fairly entertaining. :p It's lots of fun; here's part of one we did a year or two ago:

Wild Days of Old

The dust settled, and the riders were gone
The wild west blew away with an affectionate song.
My grandpa was young, and restless as could be
At the time of the story he was telling to me
“When I was a young man, reckless and wild,
There was fire in my eye- I was easily riled.
So when my cowboy days were done, I went to the East
Which did not change me at all in the least.
I kept longing for the months I spent in the West
(The ones I wasted among camels certainly weren’t the best)
Among all the Muskins I happened to meet, there was only one who liked me as me.
His name was Muso for short; we roamed around free.
He never would tell me his full name though,
I suspect if he had, we might’ve been foes.
As it was, though, I liked my friend Muso quite well,
But one day I desired to be alone for a spell.
I sat on the hard ground, thinking of when
I could brandish my pistol, make a ruckus and din-
When all of a sudden, Muso took me by surprise,
He jumped right in front of me in a ridiculous disguise.
“Muso!” I cried, jumping and startled,
I was was taken aback, but he giggled and chortled.
“I found it amongst Bin Amid’s prized stuff!”
He was wearing a pink turban, stuffed with sheep fluff.
A bright yellow mask surrounded his profile,
(I must say, the guy had a profound sense of style.)

And I think that's all I can post here, but if you want to read the rest/more, here's a link. :p

I love all of what people have posted

Gladius, I truly loved yours
Queen Susan, all of yours a lovely, I think I like The Sun Will Shine Again best, but really they are all good

Here is a poem I wrote just recently, it's nothing special, but I thought I'd share it :)

(it doesn't have a name)

There are times I wish to leave
My cares and sorrows all behind
Yet I know I must go on
Upon this mountain that I climb

I am weary, yet I will tread
This road that was made for me
And I will never complain or regret
The life that I was called to lead

I will travel through wind and rain
I will ever follow on
I will never abandon or leave
This path that I walk upon

Yet I look forward to the day
When I look on Him who guided me
Who held me when I had stumbled
And led when I couldn’t see

The sorrow and pain will fade
The grief will be erased
And I will be filled with light
When I look into His face

I know not when that day will be
But I will walk and wait
I know that day will come
I was told so by my faith

always be humble and kind

One of mine.

September.

In the sulking, shifting evening gleam

All of New England is just a dream.

Like the sorrowful echoing rattling cars,

Above the sand roads that climb towards the stars.

And the ice cream drips, baseball mitts, memories rip

And nighttime descends and the light starts to slip.

In the clouds above midnight beneath diamond grass,

Heartbreak scatters like broken glass.

But it’s only a moment, and this too, shall pass

Beneath a gnarled apple tree,

Above the path that leads to the sea,

September is the saddest time of year,

So come on inside, it’s dark out, my dear.

I know you love watching the stars when they’re clear,

And the fireflies spinning, the moths flutter fast

But it’s only a moment, and it cannot last.

Forever a proud Belieber

Live life with the ultimate joy and freedom.

Very pretty, Wild, it's very sweet and sad. I like it a lot. :)
Wow, MoonlightDancer - that is really gorgeous. All the mental pictures it drew to mind were just stunning, you captured everything so well. I love all the rhymes too. Wonderful job!

QS, I absolutely LOVE your poem "The Sun will Shine Again". It flows wonderfully, and the theme you highlighted is one of my favorites: hope.

MoonlightDancer, spectacular one from you as well! Great flow and great choice of words - you did a fantastic job painting a mental picture. Looking forward to reading more of your compositions in the future!

One of my favorite poems is short and sweet by Sir Lawrence Dunbar

An angel robed in spotless white
Bent down to kiss the sleeping night
Night woke to blush
The sprite was gone
Men saw the blush
And called it dawn

MoonlightDancer: I love your poetry. It's beautiful.

Just a short little thing:

I need to save this
Before it passes by
Take a careful picture
Imprint it on my mind

I found this poem about autumn in a box of papers yesterday. I can't remember when I wrote it - probably five or six years ago. I thought it fit the mood of fall nicely. :)

Autumn is Here
The hues found in autumn
Paint a portrait inside my head
The magic of many colors,
Brown and orange and red

Rustling in the branches,
Spiraling from the trees,
Specks of gold and scarlet drop
Flashing in the breeze

The haunting cries of traveling geese
Echoing from up so high
The noisy chatter of bustling squirrels
Gathering nuts to hide

The tired sighing of the wind,
The crispness of the year,
All of nature testifies:
Autumn is finally here.

That was beautiful! :)
Here are a couple of mine. The first one is a Narnia fanfic for The Silver Chair, the second is something I thought of in connection to Narnia. It's not really about it, but I was thinking about kings and queens in exile and I wrote this.
Buried
In the darkness, in the night
I’ve lived for years without the sun
In the darkness, out of sight
Of all I knew and loved
With no memories of sunlit lands
Of fields and mountains, ocean sands
And gulls that cry above
Of forests in the morning light
And trees reflected upside down
In pools of water clear and deep
And marshes where the breezes sweep
Yet once I knew

For one hour I recall
Would it were an hour more!
These things I knew.
For one hour I hope and plead
Yet those around me pay no heed
I’m trapped, as I was before
I heeded wrongs, now I pay the price
Of a wretched and cursed life
In chains of enchantment bound
Waiting in vain underground
For my release

I will live what I believe
Despite enchantment, despite lies
My actions will not be deceived
If all I know is but a dream
All memories of sunlit lands
Of fields and mountains, ocean sands
And He who made them
Who sang the world from nothing
If all this is but a child’s fantasy
On that fantasy I make my stand
For I will follow His command
Though my mind denies Him

Kings and Queens In Exile
Why do you not weep and mourn
And wander lonely and forlorn?
When you are so humble now
You who were to power born?

Kings and queens in exile
Are kings and queens still
Though I rule nothing else
I still rule my own will

Even when the night is falling
Even when temptation is calling
I will retain my truth and honor
They’re not for selling

And so I still hold on to hope
That the fallen crown may be raised
From the dust in which it lies
And we meet again in happier days

Yet even if that is never to be
And if I am never going to see
The city I love once more
If I will never be free

I’ll live like the king that I once was
Or rather, the king I should have been
For my failings brought me here
I can count each one of them

If I should die and not regain
The throne that once was mine
Carve this above my humble grave
And keep it in your mind:

Though a king in exile, he was a king still
In this land of blood and tears
When looking at this stone recall
In this world we are but strangers
And exiles, as was he
Yet in the next world we hope to be
Royal once more,
And pick up our fallen crowns
From the dust where they’ve fallen down
For kings and queens in exile
Will be kings and queens again

The glory of God is man fully alive--St. Iraneus
Salvation is a fire in the midnight of the soul-Switchfoot

I wrote this about a mountaineer who died on Everest in '96:

To: Rob Hall

What went through your mind
When you knew it was the end?
Or were you even aware
That death was around the bend?

Did you feel the rope around you
And the cold wind bite your face?
Or were you numb to it all
Had your mind gone to some other place?

Was the pain too great
Did it keep your hands still?
Or was the rope unforgiving
And you were stuck against your will?

Did you cry out for help
Did you believe someone would hear?
Or were you silent with resignation
When no hope of rescue was clear?

Were you angry?

Were you afraid?

Or did peace

Completely invade?

All alone
Your body was discovered there
Your last moments unknown
Your friends left in despair

And few will ever be
At that tragic place amid the sky
Over eight thousand miles above the sea
Where no bird or plane can fly

Rest in peace
Great adventurer and leader
We honor your legacy
Your brave pursuit of a dream, we revere
