I don't think it's that new - but I believe there are two, and it is the most recent one. :)

I watched Star Wars episodes 5 and 6 two nights ago. I regret that I apparently didn't get in in time for episode 4, which I only saw when I was really little and barely remember. But the ones I did see were great! I couldn't help cracking up at C3PO's voice, it was the classic upper-class twit type, and it sounded so funny coming out of a shiny gold robot. Great time overall.

I watched the newer version of Persuasion, which I heard was the worst one. But I liked it.

You really ought to try the 1995 version. It's marvelous. Great, understated acting, a very faithful script, and a quiet tone reminiscent of Austen's novel. The new version, in my opinion, is completely wrong-headed. Anne would never chase anyone through the streets, and what happened to her lame friend? Suddenly able to walk! Wentworth's acting is wooden, which most people seem to overlook on account of his good looks. And what is with that Mary? The character is needy, shallow, and selfish, but not neurotic!

I just caught the tail end to a 1940s comedy called The Devil and Miss Jones on TCM. It was really charming, so much so that I'd like to see the whole thing at some point. Jean Arthur was wonderful as always -- she is one of my favorite classic movie actresses, and I never tire of seeing her in new (to me) pictures. And Charles Coburn, one of my favorite character actors, actually plays the lead here! Wonderful. Spring Byington is wonderful as his love interests (oh, that Hollywood gave us more of these autumnal romantic pairings :D ) but the real surprise is Robert Cummings and Jean Arthur's beau. Cummings has a reputation for being rather a lightweight, who played in B pictures before turning to TV work, but here he has comic timing on par with the rest of the cast, and a charming, easy, leading man demeanor.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I also watched Kingdom of Heaven with my family a few nights ago, and then Meet Me in St. Louis with my sister. Kingdom was good, but not my favorite Ridley Scott: it tries too hard to be politically correct, and in the end comes off as a bit preachy. I've heard the extended edition is better, though. Meet Me in St. Louis, despite having a very silly title song, is charming. I love simple movies like this, that are about real people. *sigh* Margaret O'Brien is especially hilarious in the film.

I've been reading Brideshead Revisited and am watching the very long, very faithful 1981 miniseries adaptation with Jeremy Irons as I go along. I'm thinking about quitting because the adaptation is SO faithful, with blocks of dialogue and voiceovers straight out of the book that at times it feels like I'm reading the thing twice. In fact, it's more surprising when there is a departure than when it's exactly like the book. I suppose that this is a good thing, but maybe not just after I've read each chapter. It's not cinematic at all; it's episodic, with lots of subtle acting. Jeremy Irons is quite good as Charles, but I don't really like the guy they've gotten for Sebastian. He's not quite right; but he's pretty good.

That's Anthony Andrews as Sebastian, Kate. I've not seen the miniseries, having not read the book either, but he is a very fine actor -- probably best known as the 1982 Sir Percy Blackeney in The Scarlet Pimpernel. I know him as an absolutely terrifying Mr. Murdstone in TNT's David Copperfield.

I recently watched Disney's Peter Pan yesterday with family. It has been a while since I saw it, what a really good movie!

I love that version of Peter Pan. One of my favorite classic Disney films, and so true to the book! :)

Ooh! That was a great Disney film, Peter Pan! I just love how the story goes, and how friendship was made.

I just watched Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging. I gotta say, I liked it because of Aaron Johnson, but the concept too, since it is derived from a book. Funny how the story is created, and how they call kiss as "snogging".

'Snogging' is British slang. The movie is British, correct?

Hehe, nice to see another Georgia fan, sandy! I enjoyed that movie. It's so silly, so teen-girl-ish, but I love it all the same. The British slang just makes it even better. And yup, Warrior, it's a British film based on a british series of books for teen girls.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to watch it! It does sound really good, and I like the book so much. I can't clearly remember the one I watched, since it was awhile ago, but I'm sure it wasn't as good. :)
And I watched a funny old movie, The Lemondrop kid, last night. Nothing spectacular.

Valiant_Lucy: LOL. Great to know too that I have someone to discuss the movie with! Did you have that like, love fever when you saw Aaron Johnson a.k.a Robbie!? I did! Haha. He really looked so charming in the movie.
What makes the movie funny is that they act sometimes silly, with their a bit silly hypothesis about love. Have you read the book by the way?

I should check it out. I like Aaron Johnson. I first saw him in The Illusionist, he doesn't have a huge part in that movie though. Great movie!! I recently re-watched it so I caught interest again.

I rented Kick-A**, it's not half as bad as I thought it would be, but I didn't think it was great either. A decent movie. I also rented The Greatest, (also with Carey Mulligan, Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon) I thought it was a great movie.

I have several others queued to rent but I haven't gotten to them yet. One is not available yet even.
