I might have payed money to see it in theaters, for the graphics alone, but i didn't want to go through the swearing. It was ridiculous.

eh well I though Pandora itself was kinda cool, but the whole spiritual thing really creeped me out and it wasn't good. And that braid thing was just...weird :p .

LOL yeah the braid thing was weird! :p
I liked how the plants glowed at night when you touched them! :D That was really awesome seeing it in the dark theater. :)
The whole spiritual thing reminded me of Native American beliefs, actually everything about the Na'vi remind me of Native Americans.

The Value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity. C.S. Lewis

I also liked all the bioluminesence (glowing in the dark) on Pandora, and the shots of the spaceship approaching the gas giant, and other space shots, were impressive.

The braid thing was interesting from a sci-fi perspective...the idea of a planetwide intelligence (of a sort) that could be tapped into. The link the Na'vi had with their flying animals looked like fun!

But the story was just a rehash of the 1990 Kevin Costner movie Dances with Wolves.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I thought Avatar's lack of originality was more offensive than the language etc. There was some but not much.

I watched the Death Race remake with some friends. It wasn't a very good movie. I know it's meant to be an action movie, so we shouldn't be looking for great writing and interesting characters but far out - they somehow managed to make almost everything in the movie exceedingly dull. Even most of the action scenes. The only part I enjoyed was the scene with the Mad Max 2-type killer road train (truck). That scene was very cool.

I just watched in HBO, The Final Destination IV. All I can say is, WHOA. I barely watched scene to scene because of the how-they-die-scenes happening. Especially

Spoiler
in the pool where the organs of the guy were sucked, eew!
. But it was still good. The effects were great, like the one with the escalator.

I really wanted to like Avatar but I just couldn't. I just couldn't get over how unoriginal the plot was. One thing I did like was how they could all connect with to the world with their hair. I also thought the graphics looked cool. I just wish the graphics had the backround of an awsome story, not the main feature of the movie.

I actually really like Avatar! I'm one of those people who doesn't really care if the plot is unoriginal or not as long as it presents itself in a unique way. Traveling to a different planet and meeting blue cat people is definitely a first IMO. ;) The sci-fi geek in me loves all their gadgets and the idea of different planets. And the technology geek in me was blown away by the graphics. The language really didn't bother me that much.

I watched the 1997 animated Anastasia today. It has some familiar names, like Meg Ryan, Kelsey Grammer, Christopher Lloyd, and Angela Lansbury. The animation is quite good for the time period.

The role of Rasputin strikes me as weird in this version, and lends an odd supernatural element to the October Revolution and the end of the Romanov line. Unnecessarily scary in a kids movie, in my opinion.

But one of the things I like best about this movie is the haunting lullaby Once Upon A December. Incidentally, on a camping trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula back in 1999 or so, the people in the campsite next to mine sang this with their children as a lullaby, multiple parts and all. Quite pretty!

Stargazer: Ohhh! Anastasia! Once upon a December is my favorite song in that movie. Great movie all in all!

I just finished watching Toy Story 3/ Yup. I am late in watching it but it was really great! I was touched with the movie. Friendship really is valuable, that's the message I saw in the movie. Funny scenes were

Spoiler
when Buzz spoke Spanish, and when the pig was named as Evil Porkchop, LOL.
. Haha.

All in all. I loved it. Great movie for families.

This post of Warrior's reminded me of a movie I must have seen as a teen (so very long ago :P) about a truck with an invisible driver that tries to drive down a girl and guy (especially the girl, from what I recall). They simply cannot escape this seemingly sentient machine. It was very tense and I can't even recall the ending. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I cannot remember anything else about it, nor any part of the title. :-

Saw two movies today via RedBox: Ninja Assasin and Robin Hood (2010)

Ninja Assassin was a lot better than expected. It is a flat out pure action flick that does a good job at mixing the historic ninja culture with modern day technology. The story is not very strong, but pretty good. There are two story lines: a modern investigator and forensic analyst in Berlin come upon the assasination of a Russian politician and suspect a deadly ninja assassin clan. The other part is about a member of the ninja clan seeking to put a stop to the clan's efforts. The two sides join forces leading to a spectacular showdown at the clan's headquarters.

Warning about this movie. It is rated R and deservedly so. There is heavy language in the opening scene, but sporadic language throughout the rest. The real reason for the R rating in the violence. There is a LOT of blood and gore. It is on the scale of Kill Bill. If you like Kill Bill, you will like Ninja Assassin.

Robin Hood is as many have said so far: a prequel to the traditional stories we are familiar with. With Russel Crowe at the lead and Ridley Scott at the helm, this movie has Gladiator written all over it. Robin Longstride is very similar in character to Maximus, and King John very simliar to Commodus. It is a decent movie, but not one to be really proud about. It is pretty much just like watching Gladiator with the 'how Robin Hood came to be' scene.

Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

Jo, that sounds like Stephen Speilberg's first full-length movie - "Duel". I could be wrong though.

@ Jo. Hmm, that sounds like it could be any number of films.... The first one that comes to my mind is Stephen King's awful "Maximum Overdrive", though that one was a mid 1980's film and had several trucks/vehicles chasing people.

It wouldn't be "Duel" since that one only had a guy being chased by a crazy trucker (we know someone is driving the truck, just never see the creep).

Perhaps it's a Canadian horror film that I'm just not familiar with. :- I'm not very up on Canadian cinema.....

ok, so I am not a fan of vampires. I don't like them in fact. but I was intrigued for some reason to see "Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant" (starring John C. Reilly, Chris Mossoglia, Josh Hutcherson). I saw it and it was addicting in a weird sort of way. :P I mean, I still don't like vampires, I never will, but it was a well made movie even with the weirdness of the vampire thing. I have to admit that I liked it. :)
