Speaking of football movies, I love Invincible. It's an awesome movie. The crazy thing is, I hate football but I love football movies. :p What's up with that?

*agrees wholeheartedly with Fencer and Jo's thoughts on The Boy in Striped Pajamas*

The ending is amazingly powerful, and while not necessarily a Christian film, you can easily use it to discuss spiritual matters, like the effects of turning a blind eye to what is going on around you.

Wow, that's a very good point! :) I appreciated how that (turning a blind eye) was put very concisely in the film.

And didn't you just love Pavel?! Honestly, as I go over every one of the actors/actresses in my mind, there is not one who gave a mediocre job, but that scene after Bruno hurt himself falling off the tire swing in the kitchen with Pavel is just too moving. And then the mom's struggle with saying 'thank you'.

Oh right, that scene! I was really apalled at her. In the movie, Pavel's character was excellently portrayed. Ditto to your thoughts on Maria. :)
I loooove that soundtrack!

*has gotten her parents to watch the film today with her and her sister, and is greatly anticipating their responses* Maybe I should clue them in that it's extremely heart-rending...

Okay, I must ask, am I the only person in the world who liked Facing the Giants? :P

Most certainly not! :P I am quite fond of that movie myself, and have watched it numerous times. It has a very good (though I'm sure some would say predictable) plot. My favorite scenes are the Deathcrawl scene and the scene where Brooke is told she is expecting. I readily admit that I cried during several scenes on my first viewing; Brooke's story really resonated with me and I truly felt for her and her husband. I also liked David's storyline, although I felt his acting was a tiny bit flat in places.

All in all, it's a great movie, and it's definitely on my top ten list.

Quick comments on previously discussed films:

Pearl Harbor :-s <------ I think that little guy sums up my feelings on the film. The best part of the entire film (and I hate to use "best") was the attack on the harbor. That sequence carried over all the emotions you would expect from the actual event. Unfortunately, it's surrounded by a pretty horrible film.

Another point for Michael Bay!! :-bd 8-| ;)
-------------------------------------
10.000 BC: This was actually a fun film, not great by any means, but fun. Not nearly as epic as everyone made it out to be. I do wish the sabertooth had actually accompanied them on their quest. That was one cool cat. B-)
---------------------------------
Recent viewings by me:

Dog Soldiers (early 2000's): First off..... This is NOT a film for the weak stomached or for anyone under 18.

This is a film about a group of military personnel who have to fight off werewolves in a small secluded cabin. Basically it's Aliens meets Predator with a bit of Night of the Living Dead and throw in werewolves instead of aliens or zombies. I typically don't go for graphic films, but this one was actually really good.

The acting was good and the character were likable, there's just the right amount of dark humor, the pacing was good and the special effects came off well. The werewolves could have used more fur, though....

There is a TON of cursing (lots of F-words) and some pretty disgusting gore, but it's still a pretty good horror/action film. 4/5 (Shadow, you would probably like this one. :) )
--------------------------------------------
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief (2009): After reading about this one on the forum, I decided to check it out. I enjoyed it, though dare I say it, I actually prefer the remake of Clash of the Titans. I never really "connected" with any of the characters and the CGI was very uneven.

Still, it was a fun film and I really enjoyed the modern updating of several of the Greek myths. The acting was good, especially by the three leads.

Perhaps I should have read the book first..... then again, I really enjoyed The Spiderwick Chronicles and have yet to read those books. 3/5

Avvie by the great Djaq!

No, Cor, it's good you didn't read the book first. Most everyone who has read the books first HATED the movie, because it's such a horrible adaptation. ;)) That being said, you should read the books now. They're AWESOME. :D

That's a huge generalisation. The only uproar of heard is from you NarniaWeb fans. Everyone else seems to either enjoy it (if they've read the books and can separate the two or haven't read them) or find it to be a decent adaptation (those who've read the books). Crazy!

I did enjoy the movie, but I just don't think it was made very well. :)

I'm taking that ^^, W4J, from not only NW, but from my friends in RL, and a whooooooole bunch of fans on deviantART. True, I probably shouldn't have said "most everyone". I should've said, "most everyone whom I've seen".

like Rising_Star, many people I have met on other sites and such, who read the book first- also hated the movie.

The movie, wasn't the worst, but it was horrible when compared to the book. I usually don't mind changes, I can separate the two mediums but this just wasn't a good adaptation IMO.

I started Bleak House last night, and now I can't wait to finish it. It's fun to keep recognizing people from other period drama's, and some parts are hilarious, but I don't think it's that great. At least no better than the other BBC, long, Dickens movies I've watched. They make the most peaceful, safe things so dramatic, that its funny.
I love Mr. Woodcourt and Lady Dedlock. But other than them, the other actors aren't right for the parts they play (okay, maybe Mr. Guppy but the main characters?). It's annoying.
But I'm enjoying it!!

*likewise appears in this thread for one of the first times* I just recently re-watched this film, and I must say, I loved it! I especially liked the message of "If we win, we'll praise God, but if we lose, we'll praise Him just the same." Personally, I thought it was a very good theme, and I was inspired from watching the film to apply it to my own life, although not in the football situation, and it really has changed my perspective on things.

As to whether it was well made or not, I only personally noticed a few times that it didn't seem quite like any other Hollywood film- particularly how several of the scenes ended or when there was fade outs in those scenes. I would be most interested in hearing precisely what people think there was in this film that made it not well made- I'm not denying that there is a chance of such parts, it's just that the people who say it's not well made never say what parts weren't well made, but rather just say it generally. Anyway, I guess that's just different ways of critiquing a film.

Dear days of old, with the faces in the firelight,
Kind folks of old, you come again no more.

What's funny is that as I was reading the description I was thinking, "Man, this sounds like a pretty good movie", and then at the end you point me out and say I'd like it ;)). I will be checking this one out...thanks for the heads up! :D
