I miss the movie the King and I. I remember myself singing with the musical numbers in the movie when I was a kid. Sigh, good days.

Ponyo seems to be pretty cute, and my little sister likes it a lot, but I've not yet been able to sit through the whole thing - I always manage to get bored. Still, I like what I've seen of it far more than Spirited Away, which I was forced to watch for my Masterpieces of Film class. Talk about a messed-up, bizarre, convoluted movie! The world-view isn't great, either. At this point I'm guessing that Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli/Eastern animation in general isn't my thing.
Last night I watched The Ghost Writer with my family, a 2010 mystery/suspense film from the infamous director Roman Polanski. Overall, I thought it was excellent. People are always calling thrillers "Hitchockian," but this movie (though slower than the typical thriller) does bear many of the master's trademarks - not only an atmospheric location and mounting tension, but also a good deal of black humor and innuendo. Indeed, I was surprised by how very funny some of the scenes were, in a bitter, morbid sort of way. Of course, that's only one aspect of the work - there's also the feeling of futility, of emotional isolation ... I could go on and on. It's not a very fast-moving movie - no wonder it didn't do very well in the U.S. box office! - and the ending doesn't bring as much closure as your average American film, but it's a good story and very well-told. Whatever you may think about Polanski as a person, he knows his stuff. And the cast is just awesome! This is probably the best thing I've seen Ewan MacGregor in ... he's excellent. And Pierce Brosnan and Olivia Williams turn in high-octane supporting performances. If you are comfortable with the content (mostly language, but some violence and sexuality as well), I definitely recommend it.

Lysander, you get bored during Ponyo? Wow. Spirited Away was meant to be Miyazaki's Japanese-cultural take on Alice in Wonderland. Sure the beliefs are contrary to Christian beliefs but if you take it as cultural fantasy I don't believe it's harmful. Yes, I don't think anime really is your thing because Studio Ghibli's works are some of the very best in anime. It's a pity you don't enjoy them.

I usually don't watch anime because of the "weirdness" factor, but I do enjoy Ponyo and Kiki's Delivery Service. I think, despite their magical side, the characters are very down-to-earth and likable. Those are the only two Ghibli films I've seen, so I wouldn't be able to judge if the rest of them are like that or not.
Would you believe it took the whole movie for me to realize that in Ponyo, Fujimoto is voiced by Liam Neeson? I think I remember reading that a while back, but I completely forgot. I knew that voice sounded familiar...

I've seen To Save A Life just this past week too, I rented it. While I liked it, I also disliked it. I thought it was an OKish movie. Not something I'd really want to see again though.
I tend to stay away from Christian movies. Yes, they may have a good message but they tend to be badly made, saccharine and extremely preachy.

I just saw The Painted Veil--excellent movie! I was really shocked
An all around beautiful movie--soundtrack, landscapes, costumes. And superb acting from everyone! I am rather surprised it didn't win any Oscars. I really liked the love story between Kitty and Walter...it seemed more realistic then most stuff Hollywood churns out.

Last night we watched the Illusionist again, and this afternoon they were showing The Prestige on TV.
Both are Magician movies and both were released in 2006.
The Illusionist isn’t as dark as The Prestige, and I think it is more of a romance.
The Prestige is a darker film.
I like both of them, both had me thinking, both are done well.
I think I like the Prestige better because it had more of a mind bending twist then the Illusionist.
But I liked them both.

Unfortunately, I have to say "ditto" to that one. The only two that I've seen that are actually decent are "Fireproof" and "The Ultimate Gift." The last one, especially was quite good. Sad, but still really good. Of course, having Abigail Breslin in it made it a lot better. (Most Christian movies tend to have really bad acting. )

Wanted was like, woooo! Though it contained some R-18 scenes, still it was great because of the actions and props they used, especially Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy(a.k.a Mr. Tumnus of TCON: LWW) were the main characters!
I just watched yesterday in Star Movies, The Day the earth stood still.
I didn't understand much of it though, does anyone know? Hope to hear from you soon. .

I haven't watched The Day the earth stood still. I heard it was a really really bad remake, plus I could tell just how bad it would be by seeing the trailer.
Yesterday I was thinking constantly about that animated film called 'Prince of Egypt' I used to watch that movie constantly when it came out. Great film!

I LOVE The Prince of Egypt! Even though it's biblically innacurate, it's still pretty good. I always cry .

I normally don't like those kind of movies so I am wary as well, but this is not a "Christian" movie in that sense. it's very powerful and it's got swearing in it and it's rated PG-13! but it's awesome!

I love The Prince of Egypt too! It's got really good music. Animated musicals are fun. I love all the Disney Classics, and I used to watch Spirit all the time. You know, the one about the horse?
