Please Lysander, I'm not so shallow as to need action in a movie to find it enjoyable. :p I read and watched To Kill a Mocking Bird in high-school, when I was 15 years old. I'm now 26. Yes, my tastes have likely changed since then but you'll still have to come to realise not everyone loves the classics. And that's okay.
Part of my dislike for the book was the difficult (but admittedly well-written) treatment and fate of Boo Radley. I hated the girl who accused him, so much. Other reasons contributing to my dissatisfaction are that I struggled to understand some of the Southern slang. Finally, much of the story took place in the courthouse. I found courtroom dramas very dull. I've seen some good ones since but they're few and far between. Like I said, I remember it was a well-made movie. It just wasn't to my liking. Maybe I'll try it again.

Matette, Geoffrey Rush played Javert - and it's almost like he stepped out of the book! What in particular did you dislike about the Gerard Depardieu version? I've heard very mixed reviews about that adaptation.

I was worried my reference to martial arts an explosions might come off the wrong way, Warrior - I know there are other "slower" movies you like. And it's fine if you don't like TKaM; I just know that many things I disliked ten years ago I enjoy very much now. And I do think you allowed the courtroom scene to influence your opinion of the rest of the film a bit too much; it only takes up about 1/10 of the movie. And you're supposed to dislike the Ewells. They're terrible, terrible people. (And btw, I think you meant to refer to Tom Robinson, not Boo Radley, the other "Mockingbird.")

Of course, part of my love for the story might be explained by the fact that I was in a stage production of it when I was about 10 years old, with no previous knowledge of the book or movie (although I knew it was my mother's favorite film). So you could say I learned it from the ground up.

Oops, sorry. Yes, I meant Tom Robinson.
Yes, I know you're supposed to dislike the Ewells but my hate for them was something unholy (not just - blinded by rage).
Are you sure the courtroom scenes only take up about 1/10 of the movie? I remember it being more along the lines of 1/2 of the movie.

1/5 at most. 20 minutes max - but probably more like 15.

Actually I thought it was more like 1/6 x 3^0 -5ths of the movie. ;))

Hmm, I wish I could remember my precise complaints. I haven't seen it in so long all I can really say is that it was a little weird...sorry that's not much help! I think the feel of it was a little more modern-European-film-strangeness rather than cohesive-book-to-movie? I don't know if you'll get that (I don't know if I get that!) You should definitely watch it though; it was still well done.

Oh and Geoffrey Rush! He was great. I need to re-watch this movie. ;))

I saw the last half of Batman Begins recently. I forgot how much I loved that movie; the script and Bale's character development mostly (and the butler, oh the butler!). A nice, well-rounded personable movie with some action on the side. ~o)

@GtG I didn't even like Jane or Mr. Bingley very much.... ;)) But on the whole I still like what they did with the adaptation (I'm hesitant to call it a movie; it was too book-ish unlike the 05 one) :)

wow really?! Usually everyone RAVES about the glorious wonders of that film :P . I like it about the same as the '05 version.

One movie I've seen recently, another "oldie", is "You Can't Take it With You"
I wasn't sure what to expect with this one, all I knew was that Jimmy Stewart was in it. :P I saw it with my mom, and we REALLY liked it. It was HILARIOUS! So many funny parts. Defintly 4/4 for me. :D And it was funny to see Lionel Barrymore as someone other then Mr. Potter. ;))

Just finished watching The Marx Brothers' A Night in Casablanca:

It's the first of their films I see, up to now I saw one in I Love Lucy, but as a group I only know them from The Looney Tunes ;))

I enjoyed the movie, it has some great comedy sketches, especially one towards the end. :))

Next up I will see: A Night at the Opera

I so adore the Home Alone films! :D

I was obsessed with them when I was little. The first and second ones were always my favorite ones because I loved the meanings in both.

I learned the meanings of that film too. Namely that if one breaks into Macauley Culkin's house without his authorization one is going to sustain serious bodily injury. ;)

Damsel: so have you seen the third in fourth? I thought the third was horrible. The 4th one was ok besides the fact that it was different actors and I didn't like the general situation (as in the mom and dad divorcing and the dad living with his girlfriend). But the kid was adorable and the pranks were pretty funny, though the first two are DEFINITELY the best :p .
