Hmm, well I never liked the Rugrats ;) . I do watch some cartoons though. I still watch Liberty's Kids, Curious George, and a few other things ;))

yeah Disney Channel has definitely gone down hill. But they're shows are getting a little more and mroe risque. They like to put little jokes in now that aren't good. I really don't watch Disney Channel, and I never did. But sometimes a show will be going on and I'll watch a little and really, I'm suprised it's so poular :p .

Yes I know exactly what you mean by that GTG. But I'm 20 years old and still watch Rugrats, even the movies :D ;)
I'm truly an 8 year old at heart.

Ditto DamselJillPole, I still watch a lot of the cartoons I grew up with, they bring back good memories. :)
Dexter's laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Beatrix Potter and Greatest Adventures from the Bible (I don't think these were ever on tv though). :)
We also Love the Transformers G1 cartoons from the 80's, we started watching those two years ago. :)
The only new cartoon I like is Flapjack, me and my sister enjoy watching it with our younger cousins. :p :)
Yes I'm very much a kid at heart! :D :p

Just finished rewatching Pixar's Cars. Still love it! I love the lesson that today's generation is living life fast, often missing what's around them and sometimes we need to slow down and enjoy the simple things.

and I can't believe it! I left the credits go all the way, and there's a scene afterward I never knew about =))

I recently watched The Longest Day, a film covering the D-Day invasion of June 6th, 1944. The movie was based on a book (and an excellent one at that) by Cornelius Ryan. The narrative of the book translates really well into the film as Ryan doesn't write so much about overall tactics and objectives so much as he tells the story from numerous soldiers and airman's perspectives. The end result is a film that is a tapestry of the Normandy invasion experience. The film has a stellar cast of characters and shares this in common with Ryan's other book-to-film movie, A Bridge Too Far, however the big name actors also play small parts in the overall story. Expect to see no less than Sean Connery, Richard Burton, Robert Ryan, Robert Mitchum, Henry Fonda, Rod Steiger, and the late, great John Wayne, among many, many others. I wish they still did films like this!

The original film is in black and white but the version I viewed had been colorized...this may torque a few individuals but to me it didn't hurt the film. If I can find my copy of A Bridge Too Far I will give a review for that next go round'. :D

narnian1: Just finished rewatching Pixar's Up, I always liked it but not nearly as much as the other Pixar movies- nor as much as other people. It's growing on me. Not saying it's the case with everyone who loved it..

It's the same thing with me! Everybody sort of raved about it and I never really got it. Kind of like Happy Feet -didn't catch the wave or something. With Up though I think the 10 minute montage at the beginning of the movie was the best part; it was so very well done. However I think it sapped up all my emotional energy because I found the rest kind of less intense. Re-watching it recently, the characters grew a lot more on me. And I really did

Spoiler
enjoy the portrayal of the ongoing relationship between Charles Muntz and Russel (I think that's his name) at the end. Again the last montage really got to me, it was lovely.

Perhaps I should just watch the first and last 10 minutes of Up everytime. ;))

As for Cars; I love that movie too! I never understood why most people (my siblings at least) don't. For me it is just as good as any other Pixar film (well, except maybe Monsters Inc maybe). ;)

Just now watched Avatar; I thought it was good but not great. Even without 3-D the visuals were stunning!
The one thing I kept noticing was that it borrowed a whole lot from--or was very similar to--Orson Scott Card's Ender series.

narnian1, I wasn't a huge fan of the voodoo either, but I didn't think it was as bad as some folks had made it sound when The Princess and the Frog came out.

And, I hope you do get a chance to see The Young Victoria. It's lovely. :D

Rope was a good movie but would've been a lot better with the first 5mins edited out (they weren't offensive, just very revealing in terms of the plot).

How so? I thought the point of the plot was more about whether or not they would get caught and about the "perfect murder." :- Seeing the

Spoiler
murder
was a bit disturbing, but not really revealing, IMO.

Val, what you said about Rope makes a lot more sense. I guess, for me, it was a bit darker then I usually like, and I had just seen Dial M for Murder at most a week before. So, since they both more or less explore the concept of the "perfect murder" albeit from different angles, that may have colored my opinion of Rope. And, I didn't realize it was based off a play, which would explain what I was seeing perhaps. The stagey comment was more about the way some of the shots were set up, the placement and behavior of the background characters, the placement of the speaking character just felt very reminiscent of plays.

I meant to say (but babbled too long and incoherently :p ) that I sincerely appreciated the way marriages were portrayed in Julie and Julia. And, I really didn't hate the Julie parts. I've been thinking about it more, and Julie wasn't that bad of a character, but Julia was just so much more. . . capturing. I almost want to watch just the Julie parts and then just the Julia parts (or vice versa) to compare how they stand apart from one another. :p

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. I really need to watch this again. My only viewing has been with a six-year-old in my lap who kept hiding her face asking me if the "scary" part was over yet. I'm still not sure what those parts where. :p I enjoyed what I caught of the film. :)

Narnian1, hmm. I can see your point about struggling to relate to either Carl or Russell. I guess I could relate in having watched others struggling with problems similar to Carl's and Russell's I've not gone through what either of them did, but I didn't struggle to grasp their pain from the problems. And, although what you put in spoilers were the problems they were struggling with, I focused (and felt the film focused) more on what they wanted: Russell wanted someone to support him and Carl wanted to complete a goal. Both things I feel most of the general audience could relate to. So, though being able to relate to their problems might be good, I think we were supposed to relate to what they were wanting to find in that jungle, and just accept the problems as the backstory. Rope

It was revealing. It would've been better as a suspense movie if it was left up to the viewer to believe whether there was a

Spoiler
body in there or not.
Showing us the result at the beginning, undermined much of the suspense.

I rewatched this 80's movie today called 'The Wizard' with Fred Savage in it. It was so good and so funny I forgot how much I loved it. The ending was so sweet too. Has anyone on here seen it?

If it's the same movie I'm thinking of then it involves a ton of plot revolving around Fred Savage's little brother (in the movie) who is some kind of Nintendo prodigy. The thing I remember most is they're all at some sort of Nintendo tournament at the end and that bullyish kid pulls out a Nintendo Power Glove as though he were King Arthur holding aloft Excalibur, and the crowd going nuts. I seem to recall the film was basically an excuse to cash in on the Nintendo craze of the late 80's as well as to give a sort of "first look" of sorts at Super Mario 3, which was the "surprise" game at the end of the tournament. It was...bad. =))

The Young Victoria should arrive today from Netflix. I'll let you know after I see what I think. As for Up, good point- and I can relate to what they both wanted, but to me what they want is so tied with what happened that I can't separate the two. Still enjoy the movie, but not to the greatest capacity.

The Young Victoria, I had two interruptions both lasting quite some time,
but I still really enjoyed this movie! Emily Blunt was terrific! I thought the Score was amazing.

Oh, I so need to see The Young Victoria! *adds to list of movies to watch*

So, last night I saw How to Marry a Millionare. I actually got it by mistake from the library while asking for How to Steal a Million. ;)) But I'm really glad I got it because it was surprisingly good! It's about three single women in the 50's who rent an apartment and are all trying to marry millionaires. I found Marilyn Monroe's character quite endearing--she playing an adorable but self- conscious blonde who is as blind as a bat but is afraid to wear her glasses in public because she's heard that men don't find that attractive. Anyway, she (not sure if anyone cares about spoilers but I'll do it anyway ;) )

Spoiler
, while not wearing her glasses, gets on the wrong plane by mistake and sits beside the man who actually owns the apartment they're renting--turns out he's completely helpless without his glasses as well! He manages to convince her that he thinks she's even more attractive with them on, and tells her how he used to be really embarrased about wearing his glasses too. Anyway, so they end up getting married and never take their glasses off!
I thought that part of the storyline was kinda cute. :P

Another movie I recently watched was It Happened One Night. LOVED it! :D Why don't they make good romantic comedies like that anymore??
