Shadowlander, that scene is actually quite good, it's the other included scenes that didn't work for me.
I'm rewatching Chocolate - a very good Thai martial-arts action movie with a strong female protagonist. This autistic girl may not land as serious kicks to her opponents as Bruce Lee and Jet Li but she's very creative with what she does.
Here's the final fight scene in 2 parts. Warning - contains moderate violence.

Wow! Some great Muay Thai choreography in Chocolate W4J. The young lady seems quite talented. The young man in the Dojo fight scene displayed some nice Capoeira moves too. Though that particular scene could have been just as powerful as a Jet Li (or Tony Jaa) film had they had more dynamic camera-work and a spare amount of judicious editing to make the hits "connect".
The Rooftop sequence was clearly real and far more dangerous even with careful choreography, and had some great camera-work. There was no wire work and no safety netting (though they must have had something to cushion the fall of the guy that dropped several floors. The hits in that scene actually connected too. I don't envy the stunt-men in that scene. Surely they sustained some injuries. The lengths Asian film-makers and stunt-men go to make the stunts real are sometimes above and beyond sane safety protocols .
EDIT:
Oddly enough, the film was directed by the same director of Tony Jaa's Ong Bak. Which I might have guessed had I only seen the rooftop fight sequence. But the inconsistent camera-work in Chocolate kind of threw me . Ong Bak was consistently top-notch throughout.

Yes, the cast sustained many, many injuries making the movie. It's all very commendable what they do to bring us more realistic looking fighting but also rather dangerous.
I haven't seen Ong-Bak yet. I've heard the fighting in it is amazing but the story isn't all that great.
Yes, Yanin (the young woman) trained for two years full-time before they started filming and then they took an additional two years to film the movie (so her skills were improving greatly through-out). For someone who was highly skilled at taekwondo but hadn't done any other martial arts or stunts and worked on the movie for 4 years, I think she did very well. And she is very cute.
Glad you enjoyed it mate! It's great to see you around again.

Ong Bak has some AMAZING fight sequences, extremely well choreographed, but also excellent cinematography. The story is actually decent, but it doesn't really translate very well to a more "Modern" Western mindset. The character motivations wouldn't make quite so much sense to us. And some of the dubbing doesn't help.
The Protector (Tom-yum-goong) another Tony Jaa film, is also directed by Prachya Pinkaew and features exceptional camera-work (much of it filmed in Australia by the way). So it's even more puzzling that it wasn't so consistent in the Dojo scene of Chocolate.

*returns for the Alien discussion*
@ Shadow. Heh, thanks. Fortunately SyFy has been showing those two films a lot recently, so I was able to watch them. Oh yeah! I was forgetting about W4J.
I have too many films that are in my favorites, but Aliens would be somewhere in my top 10. *makes note to check out the Extended Edition* I've watched the scene where Newt's parents discover the alien ship on youtube, as well as the scene with the turret guns. I would like to watch the full extended version, though.
Quick question about the Extended cut: What's added? More character development? More action??
*will stay out of the debate about the last two Alien films.... *

The Extended Edition of Aliens has much more character development and a bit more action. It's definitely the better version.
GB, I'm not sure what kind of budget Ong-Bak had, but Chocolate 's was pretty small - about $4.5 million US. You can clearly tell that all the money was spent on the action because the movie isn't badly filmed it just hasn't got the polished look many movies do (perhaps little post-production work?).

I'm just gonna pop in post a movie review and pop back out.
the review is for....
night at the museum 2: battle of the Smithsonian.
Good stuff: Excellent acting from everyone! I LOVED Kahmunrah's(Hank Azriah[sp?]) lisp. Jed(Owen Wilson) was fiesty yet cute(don't tell Jed I said that) and just my all time fave character. the special effects were mostly great; there was once or twice where it just didn't look right. Music ROCKED! Costumes were great! And just SO many funny lines!!! my quote notebook is filled with them!
Bad stuff: swearing. I don't know why they had to swear! it's a kid's movie for crying out loud!! I know lots of people who WON'T see a movie becaues they DO swear, but I don't know anyone who won't see a movie because they DON'T swear.

The movie 'The Others' was on the other day, starring Nicole Kidman. I remembered seeing trailers for it years before, so I knew it was a horror movie. I usually don't watch horror movies as I'm get scared very easily (no matter how cheesy!) but for some reason I decided to stick around and watch it (I made my dad stay up and watch it with me. ).
It. was. genius!
I have watched it a couple times since then. One of those movies where you can pick up on things you didn't notice the first time.
I also watched 'The Box' with my mom, starring Cameron Diaz. I must say, the previews for this film are very misleading! I am still confused about what went on! I'll say this: it's previewed as a thriller but it's more of a sci-fi film.

I saw The Others too, very creepy! It's one of the few horror films I actually watched.

I rented 2012 yesterday. I will say it is one of the better of the End of the World genre movies, but has quite a few very unrealistic things (nearly all related to plane escapes). I can see now why it would have been worth seeing in theaters, because DVD still doesn't cut it in comparison. But I likely would only watch it on TV and I don't plan on buying it.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.
I saw 2012 on the big screen, and found it generally enjoyable. The explanatory science near the film's beginning was a bit sketchy (but, to me, more believable than in Emmerich's earlier The Day After Tomorrow). You're right, Fencer, in that it was filled with "just in time" plane escapes. The
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I didn't see 2012 and I probably won't. Too depressing for me. My parents saw it though and they said it was extremely sad.
Yeah, I just recently saw 2012. I didn't really like it. Probably would have liked it better on a big screen, with all the cool effects... but to me, the story was kind of lacking. *shrugs* It was a good one-time watch. But that's just my opinion. And Stargazer, I totally agree with you

^that sounds dumb. My parents also didn't like that they show all the churches and the big statue of Jesus falling over but of course they don't show any mosques crumbling.
