It's been a year or so since I've seen Dragonslayer, but I remember being a little disappointed in it. I felt they could have done a lot more with the story and especially the ending.
I also remember wishing the king had gotten eaten and thinking that the score was nice but not very impressive. On the positive side, I liked most of the actors and the dragon effects by Phil Tippet were very impressive.
So I guess I would put Dragonslayer with Legend. A well done film, but not one of my favorites. Though I would be more willing to watch Dragonslayer again than Legend.

Can't...pass...this...up.
Despite the odd casting of Tom Cruise as Forest Boy , I thought Legend was excellent. And being a HUGE fan of Tangerine Dream I take exception to the characterization of their music as "Ghastly" .
I have to agree with Shadow that I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as "light" viewing though.
And until Reign of Fire, I thought I'd never see a Dragon as awesomely realistic looking as Vermithrax from Dragonslayer again:
Though, I must say the Dragon from HP: Goblet of Fire can match them.

I also remember wishing the king had gotten eaten...
I thought exactly the same thing when I first saw the film.

I just recently saw National Treasure...again. for maybe the millionth time.
I just LOVE that movie!! it (and the 2nd) is definatly on my list of top 10 movies.
ALSO....*drumroll*
I just found out a 3rd National Treasure is coming out!!!!!! my friend just told me! I am SOOOO excited!! I totally think
I also recently saw LWW again for the millionth time. I LOVE that movie, too! I think it was MUCH better than PC. I think LWW is very close to the book except for
where PC was not close to book about
'kay I'll be done ranting and raving now.

In terms of adapatations, PC was definately a downer. But PC was a poorly written book and movie PC is a better sequel to movie LWW than book PC was to book LWW. I personally don't compare movie PC to book PC because the only similarities are character names and general plot line.
When it comes to dragon movies, I though Dragonheart was decent. Great movie? Of course not. But for your run of the mill fantasy film, I thought it was pretty good, especially with the attempt to make Draco humanlike (able to speak and express emotions). Sean Connery really helped with that.
National Treasure was a good movie. It was the first one my family saw as a family in a long time, and it was actually NT that made me aware of LWW coming out. (I discovered NWeb five months later.) But for NT, Nicholas Cage was his decent self. Sean Bean was a great villian. The plot was obviously set up, but bore just enough historical accuracies to almost make it believable. The sequel didn't have the fire the first did, but the real difference was Ed Harris vs Sean Bean. Ed Harris simply couldn't be the villian that Sean Bean pulled off, especially when he reveals his intentions at the end. I'm not sure about a third unless they give a good villian. I'm not worried about the plot line because they did a decent job with the second to be similar but not copycat.
Here is a movie I strongly recommend AGAINST seeing. Hearing you mention Reign of Fire reminded me of a horrid sci-fi flick, Fire in the Sky. It's about a group of guys that apparently sees an UFO as they try to figure out if one of them actually got abducted or not. It was a bad movie but would be an excellent showcase film for Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

I Love Dragonheart, I grew up watching that movie, I agree with you, it's not a great movie, but I still like it. I absolutely Love Draco, when I think about it, he was probably one of the first Dragons I ever Loved. I love Sean Connery's voice in the movie.

Just last year I rented for the first time the ones with Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie,
1985, 1987 and 2000
I LOVED the first two, the third was not bad but not great either.
I plan on buying the first two for my collection where it closes up perfectly IMO.
Netflix has one other but I am avoiding it, and it also has animated versions of it which I haven't seen either.

As for National Treasure I love those movies. The third has been announced for more than a year now actually, unfortunately according to IMDb there hasn't been any development since announced. Hopefully they get going on that.
I love the US History that they mix into their story, It's probably he only reason I even enjoy the movies.
^^ Megan Follows plays Anne so well! I liked the last one, but the first one is a classic! the first time I saw it, I was 5 years old!

I know, I'm sad about that. I really hope they start filming soon.

me too. I love how Ben's mind works so fast and he can figure out the clues so fast!

GB my friend, we were starting to wonder where you snuck off to! Click back about 2 pages...we had a big Predator discussion you'd have liked.
Vermithrax Pejorative (that is the meanest/coolest dragon name of all time) is one bad mama as dragons go. The special effects for the film have aged but the special technique they used to film Vermithrax in flight still holds up reasonably well. Peter McNichol kind of grated on my nerves (he screams like a girl) but other than that I thought the film was pretty good. I love named weapons in books and movies and the named spear in this film (Sicarious Dracorum) was as mean as Vermithrax, methinks.

That is a fun little movie. My coworker's husband is a Mason and I'm always asking her when she's going to just give me the location of the treasure already.

Hey Shadow , not so much time for posting at the moment. But I'll look back the last few pages for the Predator discussion.
Back on Dragons for the moment. I really enjoyed Dragonheart. Who doesn't love Sean Connery, or Dennis Quaid for that matter? But I was rather disappointed with the Dragon design and the CGI. I had the same problem with Eragon (Dragons aren't supposed to be cuddly ), though the CGI/live-action mix was improved.
I saw Dragonslayer again recently and I was amazed at how superior the Dragon design and old-school effects were in comparison to those films, and others (like the D&D movies for example).
I love the National Treasure movies too. I'm a sucker for Secret Society/Archaeology movies (part Dan Brown, part Indiana Jones). I certainly wouldn't rank either film particularly high, but they are both very entertaining.

I just saw the movie "Zathura" (Josh Hutcherson, Jonah Bobo) and it was well done, but not the best movie I've seen.....I liked it well enough, but I wouldn't watched it all the time!

I saw that too, but a little while back. Just a space version of Jumanji. I personally liked Jumanji better, but Zathura had better character arcs. I've actually been pretty impressed with Josh Hutcherson. He's been good in Zathura, Bridge of Terebithia, and Journey to the Center of the Earth. I wouldn't put him on the level of Freddie Highmore or Dakota Fanning in terms of child actors but I can't say anything bad about his acting either.

^I agree, he's good but not as good as Freddie Highmore or Dakota Fanning. They are both amazing. I saw Josh Hutcherson in Firehouse Dog, Bridge to Terabithia, and Journey to the Center of the Earth. I haven't seen Zathura but I'm not hugely interested.
