Liberty, are you seriously telling us you couldn't work out what the movie Super Size Me may be about? I thought you guys created Mac Donalds! But seriously, it's an eye-opening documentary about the dangers of eating too much fast-food and becoming majorly obese or even just ridiculously unhealthy from such habits. It's sure to sting some people and make others cringe but I think it's important to see what an excess of fast-food does to one's health. There are no known stars in the movie. It contains some language and adult themes.

Just saw the movie Defiance, with Daniel Craig. Really good, probably one of my favorite WWII movies (Enemy at the Gates is another good one). To my surprise it DID have a happy ending! I couldn't help expecting Craig to act all "Bond-ish" though throughout, as I'd only ever seen him in the James Bond movies. If you enjoy movies about WWII, you should check this one out! Although it is rated R it wasn't as "offensive" as I was expecting (it was mainly for the violence and language I believe).

I saw Defiance in theaters and I also really liked it.
The Value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity. C.S. Lewis
Saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix while it was on TV last night. Acting was definately better than the SS and CoS, and on par with PoA and GoF. The magical showdowns at the end were decent, but I really didn't see anything that makes it stand-out from the other fantasy films. I will say that what I didn't like about it was it's view on authority and the 'if you have good intentions it's okay to rebel' POV. That's prevalent in many of the movies (please note that I have not read the books) and that is one of the things that puts them down on my list of fantasy films. Personally, I would never buy or rent any of the HP films, and I would only see it if it was on TV and nothing else of interest was on.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.
SnowAngel: I haven't seen the 1995 version yet but I LOVE the 2005 version. I think all the Bennets were casted excellently. So was Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley. Just perfect .
The 1995 version dragged to much for me, but if you like the book you would probably like it.(I've never read the book, started it a couple years ago, but didn't make it very far into it.) If it had moved faster and had a little action I probably would have liked it.
The last movie I saw was Gladiator which was awsome!
I absolutely Love that movie! Easily in my top ten movies.
Completely agree .
Gladiator is one of my favorites. My older brother has the extended edition, which I watched with him in January.
Thanks for the opinions on One Night with the King. I got it from the library yesterday and watched it last night with two of my sisters(one of them was Scarlet). It's was pretty good. I especially liked John Rhys-Davies as Mordecai.
Will try to post more tomorrow.

One Night With the King,
glad you enjoyed it, but my family and I hated the movie.
Some very unnecessary changes from the biblical story. And some other silly things which bothered me. Enough to say I didn't even bother finishing it even though I sat through about half of it, desperately trying to like it.
But seriously, it's an eye-opening documentary about the dangers of eating too much fast-food and becoming majorly obese or even just ridiculously unhealthy from such habits.
But honestly, who eats Mcdonalds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day? I don't think it proves anything, and if people serioulsy didn't know fast food was bad for them, that's just sad lol
I know, but you'd be surprised how stupid some people are about such things. It's an exaggerated experiment to make a point.
Narnian1, I haven't seen 'One Night with the King', nor do I want to, but the movie is based on a novel, which in turn was expanded from the book of Esther. So if you wish to look for biblical inaccuracies look for them first in the novel, then the movie.
Can you give some examples of the biblical inaccuracies?
Thanks

We rewatched Star Trek last night. When the movie first came out last year I didn't think much of it because I never watched anything Star Trek before seeing the movie.
So for me not knowing a single thing about Star Trek I really liked it.
I'm not sure how close it was to the TV series, but when the second one comes out I plan on seeing it.

ah, I didn't know there was a novel or I would've blamed it rather than the movie.
I can't list all changes because I have erased the movie from my memory as best I could.
If I remember correctly though Esther questions the king about him having asked Vasti to come before the men at the party, when she refused. You see, even though Esther wasn't really there in the bible- in the this movie, and book I assume, she is looking over some high wall or something.
Also she has a love interest which she can't be with because he was chosen to serve the king, and was made a eunuch. No such man exists in the biblical account.
and when the women have gone through their trial period and must present themselves to the king, I thought it was played out as a bit silly. I won't say this was a change as I don't know the actual custom of how it was done. But I am sure it wasn't as silly as this movie.

I really enjoyed it as well. Among real-life friends, I've found that it seems to appeal to both fans of earlier Trek and non-fans.
Most of the casting was spot-on - a difficult challenge given the familiarity fans have with the original characters and their actors. Michael Giacchino's score is very good.
The
From what I've heard, the most bothersome departure from the canon would be the Spock/Uhura relationship - but even that can be explained away by the reboot of the franchise.
I'm also interested in seeing what happens next in this reboot of the Trek universe.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Yes, but narnian1, weren't the costume's drop-dead gorgeous?
I didn't mind the historical inaccuracies in One Night with the King anymore than I do in The Nativity Story and Prince of Egypt. I still enjoy them greatly and we weren't there when these things happened, so other than a brief narrative (or book) in the Bible, we know nothing about what happened, what people said, what they were feeling, etc. This is why it's called historical fiction.
Making a Bible story into a movie must be hard. You want to stay true to the source, but if you did it exactly the way its written in the Bible, it would be an extremely short, vague, or boring movie. So like any adaptation, they took liberties with the story.
P.S."Brooklyn!"
oh yeah, I know to expect changes. I didn't mind them so much in The Nativity Story.
And as for Prince of Egypt, and let me now include Dreamworks Animation's Joseph, those changes didn't bother me at all either, because over all the movie *was* good.
One With the King, for me, wasn't a good movie. Not even a little bit.
By that I don't mean to say it was a bad movie in general because different people have different opinions on it.
As for the costumes, like I said, I've blocked the movie so I don't remember them anymore. Sorry. I do know I didn't dislike them though
Ah, I get it now. Yeah, you're entitled to your opinion, and while I do enjoy the movie I have to agree that it wasn't done as well as some other movie adaptations I've seen of Biblical stories. The music, for one, was awful.
P.S."Brooklyn!"
