I recently watched the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice and really enjoyed it, which is surprising since I didn't really like the 1995 version. I liked Matthew MacFadyen better as Mr. Darcy. *dodges tomatoes thrown in her direction* I think his Mr. Darcy was a little more (for lack of a better word) human than the '95 BBC Mr. Darcy. Keira Knightley was fine (not superb) as Lizzie and I loved Mrs. Bennett and the other sisters - hilarious!!! Anyway I plan to watch the '05 version again, but '95 version is not very high on my re-watch list.
Has anyone seen One Night with the King? If so, what did you think of it? I'm thinking about getting from the library next time I go, but I want some opinions about it first. I did read the PluggedIn review and it sounded very positive. *ponders the reviewer's comments* From that and the other reviews, it sounds like a great story, if one can get past the historical inaccuracies.

Christ is King.
Of course PluddedIn Online are going to give it a positive review! It's a Christian movie.

Doctor Who - Season 11
It's an O.K film, much better than previous GenX films. Still, it has it's problems: Lots of CGI shots just for show, a wild range of accents (British, American and everything in-between), not so great story, some (unintentional) funny lines, etc.
I would recommend seeing it at least once. It's pretty good for a Christian film, but not great. A little too much like the old biblical epics of old....

My parents never let me watch it when I was younger b/c they said some elements were innapropiate. Maybe I can watch it now that I'm older though
SnowAngel: I haven't seen the 1995 version yet but I LOVE the 2005 version. I think all the Bennets were casted excellently. So was Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley. Just perfect .
Made the mistake of watching Batman & Robin last night. I think I lost a few IQ points due to the epic stupidity. As bad as the Burton one from the 80s was, this was exponentially worse. I'd watched bits and pieces before, but never the whole thing from the beginning. *shudders* People, avoid this movie like the plague.
I enjoy One Night with the King for mainly two reasons.
1. I really liked the book it's based on: Hadassah.
2. The costumes are GORGEOUS!!!
Unfortunately the score is severely overdone. It seemed as though the composer was trying to build up tension where there was none and push you to feel the excitement/anxiety/relief during the scene because the actors didn't do such a good job with that themselves.
That said, I do enjoy it. I drool over the costumes, try to ignore the music (though it's hard) and inaccuracies, and wish Xerxes would lose the eyeliner and grow a beard. But the girl who played Hadassah did very well, and I especially like the head eunuch.
P.S."Brooklyn!"
Batman and Robin is most definately one NEVER to see. In spite of the decent cast, it was so horribly done. The script was no help either..."Ice to see you."
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.
It was terriable, I used to watch that when I was younger, and even then I knew it was just plain awful!
The Value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity. C.S. Lewis
*cringes at the mention of the 90's Batman films*
They make Tim Burton's Batman look inspired.... Makes one soooo thankful for what Christopher Nolan and gang have done with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Well, on Sunday I watched Predator on the SyFy channel (TV edit, so thankfully all the F-words were cut out). I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by how well made it was. It's definitely a byproduct of the 1980's "Macho Man Action" genre, but the characters and plot were actually well done. And of course you can't forget the awesome Predator created by the late, great Stan Winston or Alan Silvestri's extremely memorable and cool score.
All in all, I actually enjoyed the film even though this is usual not my style. *hears woots and yays from SL and GB * I will say this though: while I enjoyed the TV edit, I would not sit through the film "uncut". Also, I think this will be a "one time viewing" type of film for me.
One last note, I do not recommend this film to young viewers even in its "edited" format.
4 out of 5 (for TV edit).
Original film rated R for strong language, violence and gore.

Winter Is Coming
Whilst perusing my brother's VHS collection this weekend I came upon Molly. Elisabeth Shue stars in the title role in this 1999 movie, as a 28-year-old autistic woman who undergoes a revolutionary yet experimental procedure. Shue does well enough, but I quickly resorted to the fast forward button early on, as it's another version of the short story Flowers for Algernon, which was previously adapted for the big screen (Charly).
Still, there were a number of familiar faces: a brief appearance from Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet Burke on LOST); Jill Hennessy (Crossing Jordan) and Lucy Liu also appear.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Woot! Yay! I truly do love the film but I can understand why it probably wouldn't get too much traction on NWeb (there are serious language issues and it can get pretty gory and visceral at times). The special effects, the Predator creature (mad props to Stan Winston), and the great Silvestri score which ties it all together so nicely...it's just a great, well scripted, well thought out film from start to finish.
And of course there's the one-liners..."I don't got time to bleed", "What next? Cheese?", "Stick around!"...they always get me chuckling . When I was in the USAF we played wargames a lot and I always tried but was never able to really duplicate Richard Chaves' (Poncho) fantastic tiger stripe camo scheme. *sigh* Glad you liked the movie, man!

I've yet to see Predator. I've heard it's very good though (for what it is).
PrinceCor, how exactly does the censorship program (TV edit) work? Does it substitute the swearing for loud beeps, does it mute the volume for the offending word, what happens? Because I can see it really interrupting the flow/immersion of the movie if done badly. Also, if you're watching a biblical movie does it bleep out the words - Jesus, Christ and God?
