Anyone ever seen shrek the halls. It's been on every xmas for the past 3 years, it's pretty good for what it is and is funny.

Yes, lol

I read the other bolyen girl and was kind of surprised lol, was expecting something different.

Anyway, I recently watched Thirteen Days (really enjoyable movie) and Wall-e (kind of boring).

Valiant_Lucy, The only thing that was creepy was Peter Parker's hair in Spiderman 3 lol ;)

I don't think any actor ever could have made that stinker of a movie good.

It was all the script's fault. A lot of bad movies have good stories and normally good actors, but the script is so wooden that no one can bring it to life.

I'll still watch TPM because there are some beautiful visuals and great fight coreography, but the film sorely lacked, and were I to lay the blame on any one thing it would be on the noticeable lack of chemistry between the actors. The dialogue was terrible too. And the script was definitely a factor. But that lack of chemistry really kills the whole thing to me. It was there for the original trilogy but it wasn't for the newer one.

Prompted by the recent DVD release of last year's Star Trek I watched another of my Trek favorites - First Contact - last night. I think it stands up well to re-watching, and I enjoyed it again.

I agree with ya' sir! :D It's especially notable for being a good TNG film when more of those are misses than hits. My only regret is that they didn't have an extended battle scene at the beginning of the film. You only get a few tantalizing glimpses of Nebulas, Steamrunners, Akiras, and Mirandas (whose only job in any ST film is to get blasted to bits, IMHO ;)) ) but just not enough for my taste.

I think it was only later (especially in Voyager - whose series finale included both elements) that these things may have been overused.

Yes, but a lot of them they did so very well, too. I don't know that one would classify it as strictly a time-travel episode, but the finale of Enterprise was an incredible amount of fun to watch! It was so fantastically put together. Had they done more episodes like that I have no doubt the series wouldn't have been cancelled.

The only thing that was creepy was Peter Parker's hair in Spiderman 3

Amen! Was it just me or did Parker's hair have a peculiar Adolph Hitler sort of look about it?

Several days ago I watched Clint Eastwood's movie - Gran Torino. Not my usual choice of movie but it was very good; a great story of suffering, manhood, discrimination and redemption. A very touching and powerful movie. The only downside is that it had a lot of strong language. Recommended for older teenagers and adults due to strong language and some intense themes. 8/10

I had the opportunity to view a couple of movies with friends this weekend. First up was Patton, the 1970 account of the American general's WWII career starring George C. Scott in the title role and Karl Malden (The Streets of San Francisco) as Omar Bradley (incidentally, Michael Strong - who played the part of Roger Korby, a sort of soft-spoken mad scientist in the Star Trek episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" - appeared in a supporting role; all the Trek fans in the audience commented on how different his role was here).

It was rather amusing to compare the translation of the German spoken to that given in the subtitles. ;)) Pretty accurate, though it's been a while since I studied German.

The movie won 7 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Leading Actor (though Scott refused). Rated PG for language (to paraphrase a line in the movie, Patton read his Bible everyday and cussed like a dog the rest of the time) and war violence (though nothing like that seen in movies like Saving Private Ryan).

Later we watched last year's New in Town, in which Renee Zellweger portrays a Miami executive sent to rural Minnesota to oversee the downsizing of a manufacturing plant. We weren't sure if the Minnesota accents would be as bad as those in Fargo (people here really don't sound like that! ;) ) or if it would play more like Grumpy Old Men. The latter is more generally the case, though we did have to turn on the subtitles to understand some of the "locals" (groan! ;)) ). It's fairly predictable as a 'chick flick' - enjoyable enough for a watch but (to me at least) pretty forgettable.

A random note is that it was actually filmed in rural Manitoba, so the snow looks real (which is often not the case). But the area around New Ulm (the film's setting) isn't nearly that flat or free of trees. And a few Manitoba highway signs can be seen near the beginning of the movie. Rated PG for language and a few short scenes.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I watched "Cars" for the first time this weekend, I liked it. Lots of really awesome 'fake scenery'. One of the best animated movies (not better than Toy Story though, nothing comes close to Toy Story ;) )

It's really hard to go wrong with Pixar. They still have not made a 'poor' quality movie in terms of graphics, story, or anything. Yes, some are better than others, but they have a very high standard. Toy Story is definately one of the best animated movies of all time, and Pixar has done a wonderful job at either matching that bar or being close. Cars is also really good. My dad (who does not like animated movie) loves it, and my three-year old nephew made sure I got pleanty of views of it this past summer. That and Horton Hears a Who.

And speaking of which, out of all the children's books-turned-movies, Horton Hears a Who is one of the best. I was quickly turned off by Cat in the Hat, and I heard mixed reviews about Where the Wild Things Are. Horton is one of those movies that truly is good for the whole family, including toddlers and adults.

I haven't seen Horton Hears a Who, but the rest of my family did, and they all enjoyed it. My 14 year old brother, who usually is more into things like Transformers *gag*, even loved it.

I could go on and on about how amazing I think Pixar films are. They have yet to disappoint me, and have consistently raised the bar on film animation and produce films that even I, a 21 year old male can relate to and enjoy.

My wife and I watched Up last month and I was rather surprised at how so very much of the story was pointed towards adults rather than kids. It was a really good film, although I don't think it was their best. The first 10-15 minutes is really something and will evoke emotion out of all but the most stern of viewers.

Cars was a great film which I enjoyed immensely, as was Toy Story (the little green army guys were my favorites as I had a huge collection of them growing up ;)) ), but I have to stand steadfastly by The Incredibles as being my favorite Pixar film thus far. Frozone rocks!

I noticed that too about Up. It is definately not just a kids movie as there are a lot more of adult themes then Pixar has usually done. I do agree that Up is not one of Pixar's best, but they set the bar so high, they can't possibly match or beat it every time. For me, Pixar's best are a toss-up between Toy Story, Incredibles, and Finding Nemo. I haven't seen Wall-E, so I can't comment about that. And yes, Frozone is cool.

I found 'Up' surprisingly disappointing. Not a bad movie but nothing more than 'quite good'. The adult themes aren't inappropriate but most kids wouldn't understand them. But Pixar have never said they make movies purely for kids. My favourite Pixar movies are definitely: Finding Nemo, WALL-E, The Incredibles and Monsters Inc.

WALL-E is creepy to me.....I found it depressing and disturbing :|

Up was kind of strange too. it started out cute and fun, and then got really weird! I wasn't impressed.....I am hoping that Toy Story 3 is good!

I was just watching "Apollo 13" (Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon) again! that movie is awesome! it's SO dramatic..... :D

Apollo 13 and Braveheart were the first two movies that I really remember going to the theater to see. Way back when I was like three, I saw "Sesemea Street: Follow that Bird", but I was so autistic back then, I spent more time checking the numbers of the theater seats than I did paying attention to the movie. (I've significantly come out of that.) Apollo 13 was a really good movie and did a great job at showing the seriousness of the situation and various sides of the people on earth. I also liked how they intentionally went out of their way to show the weightlessness of space in the filming. It is certainly something not seen very often.

Apollo 13 is my dad's favorite movie, I love watching it with him, I'm hoping they will release it on Blu-Ray before Father's Day so I can get it for him. :)
