Yeah, the Bourne movies are definitely superior. I was pleased they didn't shake the camera quite so much in the third film's fight sequences. I actually was able to see the great martial arts choreography that was just blink and you'll miss it in the first two. The scenes were still brief, but they were actually visible. Whoever trained Matt Damon was good, they made him look like Jet Li .
I think the Bourne films had a lot to do with inspiring the Reboot of the Bond films with Daniel Craig. I watched them both again recently, and they really are a breath of fresh air in an aging franchise. The only scene out of both films that really beggars belief was the late opening parachute scene in the second film . That was unnecessary. It would have been just as nail-biting if the parachute had opened up a bit sooner.

That was a decent film with a novel *rimshot* concept, although I much prefer the old James Mason/Pat Boone version. Definitely one of my favorites growing up!

How different is it to the Jules Verne novel?
The movie trailer makes it look more like a theme park ride than a movie with, you know, a plot.

@ Shadowlander. Ah yes, the old Journey to the Center of the Earth with Bernard Herrmann's great score. *hums the opening music* A favorite classic film of mine. Not that great in the acting department, but still a ton of fun. Much better than most of the modern "family" films.....
In other movie news, I borrowed the new Star Trek DVD from the library today and plan on watching it tonight. I really enjoyed seeing this in theaters, so I'm looking forward to watching it again.
Avvie by the great Djaq!

Those old 1950's and 1960's films based on Verne and Wells were really great stuff to grow up watching. They were aged by the time I got to them but fun nevertheless. Guys like George Pal had a great vision for what they wanted to see...hamstrung sometimes by archaic special effects, but they really pulled an amazing amount of the storytelling off. And they did it in a straightforward, almost innocent way. You'd be hard pressed to find anything like that nowadays, and it makes me sad.

Hehe that was a funny/stupid movie and though I haven't seen it in a number of years I remember liking it quite a bit. I loved the one Asian caveman who was speaking proper English for much of the movie and no one could understand what he was saying as they were speaking in gibberish and grunts . I'll never recover from the giant mosquito scene though...ick!

Ahh! But you have to bear in mind that this was filmed in the days before CGI. Heck, even animatronics was really in its infancy too, so they had to make do with what they have. I can imagine it probably came down between stop motion photography and gluing sails on the back of an iguana's back, with possibly a hand puppet as a 3rd option.
But I think the movie came out just fine. It captured my imagination nicely and it was a great, spirited, and adventurous storyline. What more can a kid ask for?

Shadowlander: I saw the Pat Boone version of Journey To The Center OF The Earth, but I didn't like it (yes, I saw it before I saw the new one!)!

Just finished re-watching The Matrix Revolutions. It's probably best to think of the Matrix sequels as being above-average fan-fiction. They have great elements of the original and rubbish elements that don't work and aren't consistent with the universe. The final fight in the sky between Smith and Neo is especially silly. The final battle on Zion is drawn out a bit too much. The movie doesn't have much philosophy or story but it focuses on the action and for the most part does it well. Overall it's an enjoyable, if heavily flawed movie (eg. you don't care if anyone dies in Zion). Not on par with the first but not as bad as many say either. 6.5/10
The Animatrix on the other-hand is much better. I give it an 8/10.

That's because Cornelia Funke wrote the character with Brendan Fraser as the model .
W4J, you're really going to make me bust out my book length Matrix and Philosophy Essays aren't you ???
No Philosophy in Revolutions !!!! Whaaaaa.... ??? If anything, it goes even Deeper Down the Rabbit Hole. It is chock-full of Literary, Philosophical, Theological, and Mythopoetic Allusions and Musings, touching on everything from Hunduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Gnosticism, Arthurian Romance, CG Jung, Joseph Campbell, Marshall McLuhan, Terrence McKenna...and much much more.

I saw The War Wagon on the weekend, with John Wayne and Kirk Douglas. Always a treat to discover a new Wayne movie for the first time. It wasn't earth-shattering, so far as the very familiar anti-hero westerns of the late 60s go, but it was pretty entertaining.
Also, I love the Pat Boone version of Journey to the Center of the Earth. So much fun.

I really want to see all of the Ocean's movies: Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve, and Ocean's Thirteen. They sound really cool.
I have not yet had the opportunity to see LotR so I want to see those as well. Our library has all of the LotR and all of the Ocean's movies. Sometime I'm going to borrow all of the Ocean's movies and have a marathon night. Same with LotR.
