Cuz it's Hollywood! The movie takes place in China, and Kung-Fu is Chinese, yet they have to keep the title of Karate (Japanese) because it sounds cooler 8-|

I don't think it was so much to sound cooler, though that might be part of the reason. It was more to keep a connection with the original Karate Kid movie. To show it's part of that series, a "remake" of sorts to the original. People were already familiar with the series under that name so they kept it the same, even though it's about kung-fu.

I watched The Last Song a few weeks ago. I did not like it that well. First off, Miley's acting leaves something to be desired. Also, the piano playing is downright horrible in all the scenes with her. You can tell she's not really playing by the way they filmed it and by how in the one very short section when you actually see her hands on the keyboard, her finger movements don't correlate with the soundtrack. :-o [-( That's a pet peeve of mine especially since I watched Immortal Beloved which had an excellent actor who practiced five hours a day so his finger movements would match up with the soundtrack.

I made everyone I was watching it with (five teenage girls) very mad by pointing this stuff out. Also, please, someone tell me that I am not the only person who laughs at the sad parts!!!!!

I warned these girls that I laughed during sad parts but they were still upset when I started laughing when

Spoiler
the dad dies
. I warned them! I started giggling and could not hold it in. I told them I honestly didn't make myself laugh! Now they never want to watch sad movies with me again. :p

Miley Cyrus I agree wasn't the best choice for the movie, although it was done specifically for her. I rather enjoyed the movie more than I though I would. I bought it even. :) I never laugh at sad parts, my girlfriend does though :(

My wife brought home Inception this past weekend and I got a chance to watch a movie I could only read others' words about. Since I'm the last one on board for the film I'll say that I liked it quite a bit. It had a distinctive Matrix feel to it (before Matrix derailed in parts 2 and 3...sorry GB! ;))) and was filled with a great visual effects and an excellent plot. This is definitely one of those films I'm going to have to watch a 2nd and 3rd time as it requires close attention to detail and missing small things will make you miss later plot points.

Spoiler
So...was Leo still asleep at the end? If so what happened? Was the whole movie perhaps a dream of his?

I'm tentatively giving it 4 stars out of 5, tentatively I say because it may improve for me after a 2nd or 3rd viewing, as I said. :)

@Shadowlander - I watched that for the first time earlier this month.

Spoiler
I think the ending was deliberately left vague, but for what it's worth, Michael Caine said every scene he was in took place in the real world.

Personally, i thought Cobb's emotional journey - letting go of his wife, accepting that she was gone and there was nothing more he could do for her - wouldn't have had much of a point if he wasn't awake at the end.

It was an impressive movie in a number of ways, and yeah, it does seem like one of those movies you need to see several times to "get" all of it.

I agree with Arwenel. I thought Inception was a great movie that definitely requires a rewatch. On first viewing I really enjoyed it but thought some parts were a bit underdeveloped. Upon thinking more deeply about the movie, watching it a second time and reading different thoughts and theories, I found the movie that much greater. I love it! 9/10

Well, I recently viewed the 1982 fantasy film The Dark Crystal by Jim Henson and Frank Oz. I must admit it is a much better film than I expected. After watching the horribly goofy late 80's Labyrinth by the same team, I went into this film expecting the worse. Actually, I was expecting something along the tone of Dragonslayer seeing as the film has a reputation as being "dark".

Anyway, I round-up really enjoying this. It has some of the best special effects of the 1980's fantasy films I have seen and was just a fun movie to watch. It's really like the original (or first) Avatar with the production creating a whole world for one film. There are some problems with the editing and pacing as well a some of the creatures looking too obviously "man in a suite"-like (the Landstriders and the armored, Godzilla enemy-like things come to mind).

Overall, a really fun movie with only some slight setbacks to keep it from a 4 star rating. Rating: 3 1/2 out of 5.

Avvie by the great Djaq!

I haven't read the whole discussion on Inception, but I will say that I found it overrated. :P From all the talk about it, I expected it to be amazingly epic and amazingly confusing but I found it slightlyyyy boring as well as relatively easy to follow along with. ;))

Has anyone seen the documentary Babies? It. was. so. cute. :D I think there was supposed to be some point/message to it all, but I just thought it was adorable and extremely interesting. I especially enjoyed seeing the babies from Mongolia and Namibia as both lived in such different cultures than that what I am used to (they were the cutest too :P), as the Tokyo baby had a very similar life to that of the San Francisco baby. I thought it interesting how the Mongolia and Namibia babies were basically allowed to roam about/ eat dirt as they pleased (sort of), while the American and Tokyo babies (almost) always had their parents hovering around them, which made the first two babies significantly more interesting to watch. Of course, it probably has something to do with the rural life versus the city life, but it was still interesting to note. It was also interesting how Bayar's (Mongolia) older brother kept trying to do away with him, and how as Bayar grew older he became a bully too, haha ;)) Babies was just full of cuteness. :D I would definitely recommend this film... to girls. Guys, don't watch it. Just... yeah. I'm not going to elaborate, just don't. :P

That's a problem with waiting after the hype. It's happened to me before. Sure it's easy enough to follow, as long as you are paying attention to every moment. Step away and you lose it though. Basically the ending is where the confusion lies. What was the actual ending? There are different interpretations for it- and with scenes throughout the movie that support both sides. I saw it at midnight opening weekend and loved it, found it easy to follow too. Saw it a second time in theaters, and that's when I saw a different possible outcome. It's not however over-complicated like others make it, but there are several possibilities. :)

No, it's not overly complicated but it wouldn't be truthful to say it's a simple movie either. Maybe you two are just geniuses? (not that I consider myself an idiot. :p

Liberty, I don't know when/if it will be coming to dvd/Blu-ray in the US but here's a Region 4 copy from Australia. Can you play Aussie DVDs in US DVD players? We have region-free players (mostly) here.

I kinda know what you mean. I didn't find it boring, but I didn't find it confusing or extremely complex, either. It was interesting, and a fun watch but not quite as intellectually stimulating as I'd been led to believe.

I just have to say that not all girls would like it :P I'm kind of scared/grossed out by babies and whenever the preview would come I'd hide my eyes XD ;))
