Finally got to see Princess and the Frog yesterday, it was so sweet Sometimes it seemed like some scenes were from other disney movies (like "Friends on the other side" reminded me of a dark version of "Friend like me") and well it just felt really *disney*.... still cute though

I watched another old film on the weekend (albeit not as old as Shop around the Corner). It was "The Spirit of St. Louis" with Jimmy Stewart and it was based on a true story about the first person (Charles A. Lindbergh ) to fly non-stop from New York to Paris. It was a really interesting film and cleverly done. I'm keen to find out about the real Charles Lindbergh now as I have to say that I hadn't really heard about him before. My brother is mad about planes and he loved this film so I really recommend it for anyone who likes a good "plane" story Having said that though I'm not that *into* planes and I really enjoyed it too - quite a lot of suspense and a very interesting character arc (or I thought so anyway )
Btw does anyone know of any really good Hitchcock films? I've seen Vertigo, Stage Fright, most of Rear Window and disliked them all - although to be fair I didn't mind Stage Fright. My sister is the same as me and she has watched one more (Dial M for murder) which she couldn't stand either ( I went and listened to the cricket on the radio instead ) Everyone seems to rave about them though and I'm just wondering if I've seen the poorer ones or whether they are just not my thing
Do you love "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes?
If so you might like to see my sister's dramatization of this poem through her photography!

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (IMDb Top 250- #30)
My girlfriend and I saw Disc One on Thursday and Disc Two today, extended edition. She loved this one even more than FOTR because it had more action. At certain points she even said that Gollum was adorable even though he isn't the nicest character, I can see where she sees it to be honest. Great movie. Battle at Helm's Deep is great to watch and I love it when the Ents defeat Saruman at Isengard.
This keeps going back and forth for me in its rating from 8 to 9 and back. Last time it was at 9, however it now goes back to 8/10 from me
Winner of 2 Academy Award, and 4 other Nominations:
Best Sound Editing (Win)
Best Visual Effects (Win)
Best Picture
Best Editing
Best Art Direction
Best Sound
I am about to watch bettle juice. anyone seen it?

I'd think it'd be very difficult/surprising to find someone who hasn't seen this yet- unless they were very young. I grew up watching this movie at least twice a year. I used to love it! It was so much fun to watch, though sort of creepy too. I don't enjoy today half as much but it sure is fun to watch at least once if you haven't seen it before.
I hardly know anyone who has watched it. before my time i guess. It is one of the only tim burtin movies i haven't seen.
Beetle Juice wasn't before my time but I wasn't allowed to watch it. Must have been the horror angle to the movie.
Currently watching:
Doctor Who - Season 11
Princess and the Frog: I think that was a cute movie; but I wasn't super impressed. I'm not a fan of that kind of stupid humor, and it didn't really . . impress me. Tangled is a MILLION times better.
Alfred Hitchcock: I'm not a huge fan of his movies; but I think North by Northwest would definitely be the best. That seems to be the general consensus, of what I've seen.
The Spirit of Saint Louis: I watched this movie a long time ago, and I just read the book; they are both quite impressive. Charles Lindbergh was a wonderful person; he was so quiet and modest and nice. To learn more about him, you should read the diaries of Anne Morrow Lindbergh, his wife. they're wonderful.

This past week, my Mom, my older siblings, and I got to watch two movies we had never seen before, Charade and Maverick.
We watched Charade for Scarlet's birthday. It's was pretty good, although it had more suspense than I thought it would. I really like the ending, often good movies have a flat ending, but Charade didn't.
Maverick was so funny. Not at all what I was expecting, I thought it would be kind of like Silverado. I have seen several episodes from the TV show, and I especially liked that
SnowAngel
Christ is King.
I just watched Maverick a few weeks ago, SnowAngel, and very much agree! Very funny movie and great casting (I love the cameo by Danny Glover, especially when he and Mel Gibson (both stars of the Lethal Weapon movies) almost recognize each other, with Glover riding off and giving his standard Lethal Weapon catchphrase )
*deals SnowAngel some cards for some 5 Card Draw*
While narnian1 has dedicated himself to watching the top 100 (or so) movies in the imdb, I have decided to have even more fun and tackle the bottom 100. Please don't try this at home, kids...I'm a professional, and I'm doing this so you don't have to! I began last night with one of the most reviled movies to come out of Hollywood in the past 10 years.
Gigli (2003) #89 on imdb's worst movies list - Take Ben Affleck, an actor who's already polarizing to many people, throw in then-current love interest Jennifer Lopez (Nothing you can do will compel me to call her "J-Lo", you can't make me!), and the movie reeks of "I love you so much honey, let's make a movie together so everyone can see how much we love each other!" which is why I think so many people hate it. Long story short, Ben Affleck is a low rent Mafia goon named Larry Gigli (which rhymes with "really", not "giggily", like when the dentist hooks you up to the nitrous oxide tank) whose boss has him kidnap a federal prosecutor's younger brother...the prosecutor is bringing charges against some Mafia bigwig in NYC or some such and this is an effort do "dissuade" him from filing charges. The younger brother (played by Justin Bartha, aka Riley from National Treasure) is mentally handicapped and provides problems of his own. Gigli's boss doesn't think Gigli (still rhymes with "really") can hack it as he's still new and already has a reputation as a goof up, so he brings in Ricki (played by J-Lo...oh no! I did it!) who is aesthetically pleasing, a smooth talker, kind of a con girl, and ...well, I can't talk about some stuff here. But suffice it to say that Gigli and Ricki start to taking a liking to each other and warm up to the kid. But the Mafia isn't into that whole heartwarming, tug the ol' heart strings kinda stuff. They mean business, so when Gigli and Ricki decide not to send Riley's (I can't remember what his name is, so I'll just call him Riley, because everyone knows who Riley is) thumb as proof to his federal prosecutor brother the Mafia decides maybe it's time to take the two out of the question altogether.
I was really expecting an atrocious movie and was kind of surprised when I discovered that Gigli wasn't really that bad. The film suffers some major pacing problems and drags for a goodly portion of its length. The whole Affleck/Lopez on screen romance thing, from what I've read, was forced by producers into the film so as to cash in on the then popular "Bennifer" (remember that one? ) craze, and the film purportedly suffered for it. Even so the dialogue (especially Lopez's) is quite snappy and the two do have chemistry on the screen, and there's some great scenes with Christopher Walken and Al Pacino. I suspect that, like many movies before it, when critics started bagging on Gigli a lot of folks read the reviews and started bagging on it themselves and it snowballed from there. I've seen far worse films than this one (Glitter, starring Mariah Carey, among many others), that's for sure. I give it 2 stars out of 5. Ok for one watch but despite it's Pacino and Walken scenes and witty banter, not something I'm going to rush back to go see again.

I think I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one Ela, I liked Princess and the Frog more than Tangled *avoids flying objects and frying pans from the gazillions of Tangled fans on the forum*.... I really liked how the movie was animated like the classic movies that made me feel nostalgic... and also liked the stupid humor
Shadowlander.... this movie challenge seems quite... interesting

Actually, I'm watching Best Picture Nominees/Winners, which many times does agree with IMDb Top 250. And you tackling the Bottom 100, Good luck! I've seen only one movie out of there- and that's when I was small. Baby Geniuses. I've always wondered if Gigli was as bad as they made out, but never found the strength to watch myself. Maybe now I will, even if you only gave it 2/5.
Gigli's available instantly on Netflix. I can watch it tomorrow in the background while at work, (Shh don't judge me for seeing it at work, I work at a desk much of the day so I get the chance for this as long as I don't really focus on the movie )
Loving your take on narnian1's "Challange", SL! I'm inspired now to try something similair...our movie store has a wall of the top IMDB films, maybe I should work my way through them. I've already seen quite a few...
I watched Morning Glory Sat night with my family. I told them "you are going to like this movie, especially Dad!" and they were skeptical but turned out they loved it and my Dad thought it was sooo hilarious. I didn't even think it was THAT funny. I liked that it didn't focus on the "romance" aspect of the story, that was kinda background to the main character's job on morning TV.
And I rewatched You Can't Take it With You. Everytime I see this movie, all I can think of is how much I reallyreallyreally want to live with that family. (Alice's family, not Jimmy Stewart's, obviously). This has some really hilarious scenes, and me and my Dad were laughing uproarisly at it. My favorite character was defintely the dancer, Essie. This isn't my most favorite role of Jimmy Stewart's although he's not bad of cousre.

Sounds like it would be a good flick to buy for my Dad as a b'day present - thanks!!! I think I've heard of it before (my Dad loves Jimmy Stewart but I've only just gotten into his films - am rapidly becoming a big fan though ). It sounds like it will be good

I'm very much looking forward to my part of it...I love bad movies, probably from all of my years watching MST3K . A word of warning though with regards to Gigli, and I am kicking myself for not including this in my mini-review. There is of course coarse language and other stuff...but there's one or two very explicit conversations in the film that you need to be on the lookout for. They are downright vulgar. Had they removed those portions of the film I think it actually might have fared better given that they're a source of much animosity for the film in movie-goer land. Other than that like I said, a far cry from the worst film I've ever seen.
Interestingly enough this new Justin Beiber movie from earlier this year or maybe last is in pole position on the worst movies list. Either it's really that wretched or it could be blowback from anti-Beibers. (Anti-Beibers...I may have just coined a new phrase ).
