Digs, I nearly have the funds for it, so I'm not too worried. I do figure it will make hunting in the catacombs much easier, though, so that's what I plan to do.

Well, I finally got another sled so I can craft the upgrade of the new trap. I'm not sure what I'm going to do after Ronza leaves. I'm in the middle of the Tribal section, but I kind of skipped over a lot of Catacombs/Mouseoleum/Acolyte stuff on the way. I also want to try out the Gauntlet...decisions, decisions.

Has anybody caught a New Years Mouse yet? If so, what bait and trap setup have you been using? I'm currently hunting with the CCT, GB base and Seasoned Gouda, but haven't encountered one in the near 24 hours I've been back in the festive comet.

I caught the New Year's Mouse using that same trap setup, but with gingerbread cheese, Digs.
I'm thinking of moving out of the Festive Comet and heading over to the Mouseleum to raise gold for my upgraded toboggan trap. Should I stick to the Mouseleum or would I earn more gold from the catacombs?
Well, I only have the head knowledge for this from the wiki, not experience, but I would say that depends on what shadow traps you have. What do you have?

Booky, if you don't have the ACRONYM trap yet, than I'd advise you to head to the Mouseleum. If you have the ACRONYM, then the Catacombs is the place to be. The Bead of Slumber will get you a decent catch rate in the catacombs, but ACRONYM is better. . . by far.

Are there any shortcuts or hints to leveling up (like traps, cheese, location, etc.)? Not like cheat codes or anything. But I would like to be able to upgrade my ETR trap before the end of the Hunt.... I'm not sure the upgrade will be unavailable afterwards.
"To the Great Western Wood, I give you...."
The upgrade is available, I believe, EtJ, as long as you have all the parts beforehand. I'm planning on waiting to upgrade until later. I know upgrades from past LE traps are still available, so I'd presume its the same with this one.

Good to know!
"To the Great Western Wood, I give you...."
hmm... this is interesting. *continues exploring*
It looks as though it might be quite fun

EtJ, the upgrade will definitely still be around after the hunt is over. You just won't be able to purchase the Explosive Toboggan Ride, or get parts for the upgrade (but if you already have all of them, then save up your money and craft it at a later time).
As far as levelling up goes, I'm afraid there aren't any trade-secrets so to speak. I think (but I'm not sure) that your ranking increases as your points increase, so you might try hunting in areas that have mice with high point values.
One thing that a lot of you who are trying to farm gold, and yet can't access the catacombs, might try, is heading over to the Town of Digby. Try using your most powerful (or luckiest) trap setup, and craft yourself some limelight cheese.
Limelight Cheese (3 pieces):
3 Living Shards
3 Radioactive Sludge
30 Curds and Whey
If you have living shards hanging about from catching monster mice (or from your festive hunting boxes), and have radioactive sludge hanging around, then it's worth a try. You'll gain a TON of points and a TON of gold going after the Digby Dirt Dwellers, and if you've got a decent trap (with a lot of luck) you should do fairly well. I'd advise the ETR and Candy Cane Base (but of course, it's best to try your own combinations to find what works best).
wolfloveresk, it would be great to have another convert!!!!
And in recent news for me, I just levelled up to Knight!

Can I safely leave the FC?
"To the Great Western Wood, I give you...."
Well, here's my "Okay to leave the FC" checklist
1. Have you caught all of the event mice? Such mice will likely not be released again for a very long time. Some may never be released again.
2. Have you used up your entire supply of Gingerbread Cheese, Frozen Fromage and Seasoned Gouda? It's probably okay if you don't (and if you hang onto the potions and planks as you might use them again later), but it's always a good idea to use free cheese.
3. Do you have at least one of the Explosive Toboggan Trap? You might want to purchase two if you are a "trap collector" who will want one to keep, and one to upgrade.
4. Do you have all of the necessary parts for the upgrade? It's a pricey upgrade, no doubt about it, but it will really help you later in the game!
5. If you're still early on in the game, have you saved up enough gold to purchase something from Ronza? Ronza's traps are pricey, but they're AWESOME! If you're more advanced in the game then there are better places to earn gold.
If you're confident that all of those goals have been achieved, then I see no reason why you cannot leave the Festive Comet.

I just caught my first New Year's Mouse while reading this thread! I used Gingerbread cheese and a trap setup of ETR and Polar Base. I think once my gingerbread's gone I'll use my gilded to catch a Master Burglar and go for the Gauntlet. Any suggestions on trap setups for that?

I caught my master burglar using my CCT, because I wanted the high luck setup to ensure that he dropped the crown jewel.
Having used all of my supplies of limelight cheese, I have travelled to the Forbidden Grove to try to hustle up some runes (as well as some more money)
