Name: Laura

Any other nicknames(s): On here, Val of course. In RL I sometimes get "LA" from my brother. My mom calls me "Chickie", much to my annoyance.

Country/area living in: eh, what's that? I'm in Canada, Ontario, on a small hobby-farm.

Approx age:
18 years young! (But almost 19)

Personal info:
Online I tend to come off as more outgoing and bubbly, in RL I seem quieter and more serious, I think.

I really really like fashion. I find people really fasinating. Books are amazing, and I can never have enough of them, of course. Shopping always makes me feel better...that is, until I run out of money. ;))

Professional info: I graduated from highschool spring 2009 after being homeschooled nearly all my life. I worked a while last fall at a kennel, but it sadly closed the end of Dec, so I'm just chilling at home while searching for a job, and trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. B-)

Physical Stats: I'm 5'6'', brown hair (colored reddish), blue eyes, iceberg-white skin.

Most embarrassing moment in last 12 months:
Oy, must I repeat this story again? Well, here goes:

It happened at the Erie Lion Party for PC. Halfway through the movie I left to use the bathroom. The theater was dark and I had trouble finding my way to the stairs/lobby. So I pushed on the door to go out in to the lobby...only to my surprise, light flooded into the theater and I was looking at the parking lot!! I spent an extremely confused moment trying to figure out WHAT had happened. When I realized I'd opened the "EXIT" door at the back of the theater I quickly shut it and scurried the OTHER way back to the lobby door. I told myself that probably nobody had noticed, but when I brought it up after the movie, everyone had something to say about it. They told me that they saw me heading that direction. Some of them starting waving their arms to direct me to the correct door, but I sadly did not notice. Then I opened the door and all they could see what a huge stream of light flooding into the theater, and myself silohetted in the middle of it. My brother says he looked up and thought "Who on earth is that...oh...that's LAURA?!"
So yes. NOT one of my better moments. And of course there's also the time my skirt split up the back in church, but it wasn't so very horrible since I had a long coat with me and was saved (nobody ever found out, much to my relief).

Favorites:

Books:
Um, obviously there are way too many to fit in this post, but my standard favorite book is From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs Basil E. Frankweiler. The main character, Claudia, reminds me a lot of myself, and her younger brother reminds me a lot of my younger brother. Plus it's a very, very good book. A more recent favorite is I Capture the Castle.
Some other random books I like in no particular order---Anything by Agatha Christie, Sophie Kinsella, M. M. Kaye, almost anything by Mary Stewart (I'm not a fan of her Arthurian books), Shannon Hale...umm...some "classic" books I like are Little Women, An Old Fashioned Girl, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Pat books and the Emily books by L. M. Montgomery, almost anything by Lloyd Alexander. I reallyreallyreally like the Diary of Anne Frank. I enjoy WWII YA novels. I love nonfiction about psycology, fashion, shopping, cosmetics, health, diet, biographies if I'm really interested in the person.

Movies: I think Atonement is probably my "standard favorite movie", along with The Brothers Bloom, Rear Window, The Philadelphia Story, and a more recent favorite An Education. I just LOVE every bit of these movies to pieces. Of course I religously watch all three LOTR, LWW and PC. I also like Bend it Like Beckham, It's a Wonderful Life, The Devil Wears Prada, Pirate Radio, Pride and Prejudice (kk version), Little Women (Winona Ryder version), Death on the Nile, Evil Under the Sun, A Child's Christmas in Wales, The Christmas Story, Johnny English, Mr Bean's Holiday, Julie and Julia, Sunshine Cleaning, Casino Royale, Easy Virtue, Wild Child, all the Harry Potters (my fav is HPB and OotP), I Capture the Castle,

TV shows: Lost, Foyle's War, Criminal Minds, Monk, The Mentalist... Gossip Girl is rather pointless, but the clothes ARE lovely ;)

Food: I'm kind of a picky eater XD. However I've never met a potatoe I didn't like! Strangly enough, I believe I'm one of the few females who doesn't go crazy over chocolate. I don't hate it, but there's usually some other treat I'd rather have. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not, but I've eaten over 13 slices of pizza before. And whenever I go to a restuarant I ALWAYS order ceaser salad. :P

Favorite animal: Llamas. They are very, very soft and cuddly, and as friendly as any other animal (no, they are not prone to spitting), and llama kisses are the BEST thing ever. Cats are also excellent (I also like dogs but cats are superor ;) ), and owls and zebras are great too.

Music:
I like a lot of really random stuff, apparently. Mostly I'll give anything a listen, but I have a strict No Country Music policy :P. I'm also not fond of rap or jazz. Most of the stuff I listen to is just random songs I buy off itunes, that I don't really listen to the rest of the artist's stuff, however I do love a lot of things by The Killers, Dido, Enya, Lorenna McKennitt, Eisley, Regina Spektor, and Mika. I'm less familair with Lenka, Lettie, Keane, James Blunt, but I know a few of their songs. As for soundtracks my favorites are: LOTR, The Brothers Bloom, Easy Virtue, I Capture the Castle, Atonement, and the latest Harry Potter.

Favorite Narnia Book: That's an easy question. The Last Battle is for certain my favorite book. It's funny, becuase I used to HATE it because of Narnia ending, it being so sad, etc etc. But the more I read it the more I like it. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is tied with SC for second favorite.

History on Narniaweb: Alright, this is a bit confusing because I originally joined under a different account. I think I discovered NarniaWeb in fall of 2005, possibly through another site, probably while searching for LWW news. I came to the home page and I think that's about it. Then in December I'd seen the movie, and was obsessed with the idea of making Susan's green dress (never did btw). I looked up info on it and came to the Costume Forum. I read stuff for a while, but reallllllly wanted to join. I can't remember if I asked my parents permission or if I just joined cause I was afraid they'd say no XD, but I joined up early January as Child of Aslan. I distinctly recall my first post. It was something about the minature sets you could buy of Susan's horn/bow etc. It got sent back by Philo who pointed out that since the spelling/puncuation was so horrid she wouldn't be able to post it. I guess I hadn't looked it over before posting it. A few days later I realized that Child of Aslan wasn't such a hot name after all, I wanted something more personal. I PMed Philo and asked if I could change my username. She suggested that since I'd only just joined it would probably be easier if I just made a new account. So I did, under Valiant_Lucy, on January 13 2006. The really ironic thing is that soon after that I was talking to my cousin, and when I told her about NW, and me joining, she said "Really?! I JUST joined there too!" She had joined up as Narnian_Silver on Jan. 11! Weird...

I became a Birthday Committee member late summer 2008, and retired from that role late summer 2009. And on August 26, I was asked by FK if I would like to mod. I said "Do you really have to ask?! YES!!" And here I am. :P

What he/she likes best about Narniaweb: It's cliche, and been said before but it's true: The people are what makes NW what it is! I've met so many amazing people on here, some of which have stopped being "online" friends and are now "RL" friends as well! ;)
I still love the fact that there are other people then me who love to obsess over Narnia, disect the movies, analyze the books (as well as many other fandoms!). And even though the rules sometimes seem very strict, NW really would be a crazy (not in a good way, understand!) place without them.

Rule most often forgotten by me:
Um...I have a tendency to quote people and then just say "I agree". XD I KNOW there's little things I forget about but I can't actually remember right now (maybe because I tend to forget them, hm?)

Favorite/funniest Nweb memory: Definetly all of the April Fool's days! I really will not ever forget "Barnes Web". And for some reason I was just NOT expecting stardf and wisewoman to be switched around last April 1st, that threw me for a long time. XD

Back in "the day" I was Pippin in the "NW Hobbit Clan" along with Fortuna_Major as Merry, Juliana as Frodo, and Danger O'Riley (I think, I MAY be wrong, if so sorry!) as Sam. I remember my first year anniversary being quite the momentous occasion.

First Narniaweb Post: I can't find any posts by either me as Val, or Child of Aslan. :(

Typical Sayings(s): I've only recently began to use a phrase connstantly... "I know, right?". It's the perfect response to almost anything, and always sounds as though you're listening very intently. I've discovered it annoys some people though. :P I know I tend to overuse the ":P" smiley OBSESSIVELY. It just seems to fit with everything! :P

Comment by another mod: Val is very sweet. It's been a pleasure to get to know her, first around the forum and later as a mod. She always has a lovely user icon and, of course, anyone who agrees with me that llama kisses are the best is awesome. -Meltintalle

Val is an awesome friend with a fantastic taste in fashion! I love our conversations and look forward to seeing new pictures of her in her beautiful photoshoots. She's a great mod (patient, kind, observant), and I'm thrilled to have her on the team. For some reason she always reminds me of Keira Knightley, though that could just be because she often has her in her avatar. :P

I had a dream about meeting her in RL recently (Val, not Keira ;) ) and it was the best dream I'd had in a long time. :) You're wonderful, Val, and I'm very glad to have you as a friend. :) --Ryan

Val is one of the nicest people I know! I always think of her as quite spirited because she never seems to be in a bad mood. She has a wonderful sense of style and we both share an obsession with scarves. It's been such a privledge to know her, and I hope and pray we will get to know eachother even better in the future! -NL101

Having first met Val on NarniaWeb (3 years ago now), then in real life (3 years ago this summer), I can gratefully say what a privilege is it to know her (and her family). Over the time we have made such memorable memories, whether it's at their place, at our place, or somewhere in between ... even venturing away on trips together. :) The laughs, the more serious talks, the games and movies, the outings and adventures have been so special, and it's all because of NarniaWeb. :D It was fun when you were asked to join the birthday committee, then when you became a mod (woot!) late last summer. You add a good deal to the forum, Val, and I like how you jump in and confidently express your thoughts on almost any subject.
~johobbit/Jo :)

P.S. I well remember that "most embarrassing moment". :)) We'll make sure you know where the proper exit door is at Voyage. ;) EDIT: And .. can hardly wait to get our noses pierced in April! Despite the fact I'm more than double your age, it's going to be a blast! :D

Oh, I like The Mixed up Files too. I haven't read it in forever but I should really dig it out and read it again.

So I heard from winterlife that we're allowed to ask you guys questions in this thread??? If that's not true anymore, feel free to ignore these.

Firefox or Internet Explorer?

Would you rather have a name that everyone makes fun of or one that's really difficult to pronounce?

What's your favorite sport?

Yup, you guys get to ask me as many questions as you want! That's the idea of the thread. ;)

1.Firefox or Internet Explorer?

2. Would you rather have a name that everyone makes fun of or one that's really difficult to pronounce?

3. What's your favorite sport?

1. Firefox, for sure!

2. One that's really difficult to pronounce. I'd probably get annoyed by people messing it up, but it'd probably be a good icebreaker.

3. I don't like sports. At all. :P I'm awful at them (no, really, I REALLY am), and I reallyreallyreallyreallyreally dislike playing them.

4. Hmm...I used to loove slicing up potatoes, and soaking them in vegtable oil while cooking them. But they always made me feel so unhealthy after, especially cause I'd eat the entire pan at once. I guess mashed potatoes are my favorite, as long as they aren't lumpy.

5. Butter. Loads of butter, more then you can imagine. Possibly more butter then potatoe. Also, lots of salt.

6. No! :-o

7. No! :-o Why would I want to do that? :P

8. Um...what are oven fries?

9. Probably. I will if they have been, say, in the fridge in a doggie bag from a restuarent, but only if desperate. Normally I heat them up ;)

12. What do you think of That Dragon of Cor's?

13. Favorite place on NW?

14. Favorite thread on NW?

15. Who is that in your avatar?

10. I wouldn't say any particular place in the US is on my list of "places to visit"...so it'd more be a case of "where can I go to maxamize the possibility of meeting NWebbers". :D Not sure, as it'd depend on who I'd want to meet.

11. Paris, Venice, Zanzibar, Egypt, London (England),

12. Nope! I felt perfectly fine after :P

13. I like either Hawwiaian (spl)--although I usually can't eat as much of it, an Pepperoni. I'm not a fan of a ton of cheese though.

14. There's this small chain of pizza places around here called Godfather's Pizza. SO GOOD. Best pizza ever :D :D :D

15. I like pasta...spaghetti, and fettachina alfredo (or however that's spelled...).

16. Yes, a lot! I love "She Loves You", "For No One", "Magical Mystery Tour", "The Fool on the Hill", and "Strawberry Fields Forever" among pretty much everything else. :P

17. TTT

18. I love the Rohan themes, especially Eowyn's theme. It's one of the most beautiful themes in the 'collection', I think. :)

19. Probably *googles James Horner*. Although I don't own it, I've always enjoyed the Titanic soundtrack.

20. Hmm...this will be hard. :P I am fasinated by people and psycology, and Atonement is very much about people, and the decisions they make. It's not a light-hearted film, and it always makes me think after I see it. Plus I like the time period, the acting's great, the cast has some of my favorites (James McAvoy, KK, Juno Temple, Romola Garai, Saoirse Ronan), the soundtrack is beautiful. I think it really captures what's it's supposed to be capturing...not sure how I can put it into words, really. But I feel like it's a very "real" movie...it really hits on all the right, real, emotions that you would actually feel. Does that make sense? :P

21. Hm, well I don't believe I'm very well aquainted with Vern, actually. But from what I hear he's a very exceptional dragon. ;))

22. Um...the SO, I suppose. I guess I'm supposed to say TAN, cause I'm the mod there.

23. Right now, the Lost thread for sure. :D

24. Carey Mulligan, as a schoolgirl who gets romanced by an older man in the film An Education (which I loved).

That's it..... for now. :)) <------- Joker laugh

Oh...I'm very scared. :P

39. Who are your favourite people in history?

A big thank you to Aly, who numbered her questions ;)

25. The second one, I think.

26-27. Sam Stewart. She's the only main character that's female, and I like that gets the drive the car. Idk, I think that'd be a fun job. :P

28. Wait and keep my options open.

29. Hm...probably Clara's War, by somebody I can't remember. I also like Greater then Angels by Carol Matas. I was OBSESSED with that book the first time I read it, when I was 13-ish!

30-31. Yes, and yes! For someone who would rather not watch the movie, I'd reccomend the book because although the content is still there, it's much easier to skip thru. There were a few changes, but I thought it was very close to the movie.

32. Nope. :(

33. Nope :(

34-35. Hm. Probably psycology to do with criminals, and crime. I'm not sure if it would exactly be classified in the "psycology" genre, but I reallyreally like The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. I also found Profiling Violent Crimes: An Investigative Tool by Ronald M. Holmes to be quite informative.

36. Ideas

37. Comfortable caos. For example, my mother would probably say my desk and room is usually on the messy side (Although I will randomly go on a "cleaning spree" every week or so and tidy it up), but even tho it looks that way, I know where everything is. While, when my room is very tidy my mind feels tidy (if that makes any sense) I generally feel a bit uncomfortable going into someone's house if it's excruitiatingly clean.

38. Hmm...like historical period? I'm most intrigued by more recent years, in particular the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, and a little bit of 60's. :P I especially like the music of the 60's, and the fashions of the 30's and 50's.

39. hmm...I'm not sure if you mean historical figures, or just people who have died... ;)) I guess I'll answer this question as if you asked me "who would I like to meet that's now dead". Anne Frank, Laura Secord, Jane Austen, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jimmy Stewart, Laura Ingalls Wilder (when she was a little girl). I guess they aren't so much "historical"...

40. She's not my favorite artist by any means, and I don't hate her, but I don't love her. I'm glad that she seems to be a fairly good role model for young girls, instead of people like Miley Cyrus, but I generally am not a huge fan.

41. I used to hate her, but I actually find her kinda cool now. :P I love how she's fearless when it comes to fashion!

42. Yup, I usually listen to a popular music station when I'm driving, or once in a while a classical music station. I don't usually listen to the radio at home though.

43. Haha, I was thinking about this the other day actually. One of the worst days of my life would be when I was pretty young (6? 7?) and my brother and I sort of ran away from home...my mom was really scared (understandably), and REALLYREALLYREALLY mad. We literally sat in our rooms the entire rest of the day, and only got a slice of bread and a glass of water for our supper.

44. The term is not unfamiliar, but I have no idea what it is.

45. A red Starbucks T shirt, and a burgandy fleece sweatshirt.

46. No. :P

47. Nope!

48. hmm...excellent question. I remember hating Nanny McPhee. Usually I try to block out really awful movies. Oh...this one movie, called "Shiloh Returns" or something was really and truly awful. Don't watch it! No...wait...the worst one was....I can't even remember the name, except my mom made us watch it for history in school, it was reallyreally long (3 hrs), really badly done (the lighting/costumes were AWFUL), and it was possibly about the reformation time period? And reallllllllllly boring. The most interesting thing about it was I had picked all the nail polish off my toes by the end of it. ;))

49. Oh, well I'm not going to answer that. :P You all are pretty awesome, honestly!

50. No, not really

51. Um...no. Should I have told you that? :P

52. Internet, reading, and my sight.

53. umm...*tries to think of something uber random* Using the scroll thingy on my mouse? ;)

54. Well, I guess I should choose something healthy. Fruit. All kinds of it.

55. In RL? Not that I'm aware of!

63. What makes llama kisses so great?

64. Does this admittance of llama loving kisses come from a first hand experience?

65. If so, when was the first/last time you were kissed by a llama?

66. Was this a mouth-to-mouth kiss or a mouth-to-cheek experience? (Don't mean to strangely nosy, but I am trying to understand this weird obsession. ;)) )

67. Do you have reservations about puppy kisses?

68. Do you think a woodchuck could kiss if a woodchuck wasn't busy figuring out if it could chuck wood?

69. You mentioned once in the Actor/Actress thread that you are a fan of Paul Bettany. *high-fives Val* :D What is your favorite movie of his?

70. Have you watched the Da Vinci Code only because Bettany was in it? (I did, and I wasn't disappointed by Bettany's performance but I didn't like so much the rest of the story. Not because of that whole (weird) conspiracy theory about Christ being married, but so much as I thought it was a kind of rip off of National Treasure. Although I did watch Angels and Demons before watching DVC and I liked it better than its prequel.)

71. Which actor and actress that is popular today can you not stand to watch for a single moment even if you are really interested in the movie?
