That's really interesting. I've never heard of studying by phone. How did that go? Do you like studying distance ed?
It went pretty well. They had a toll free conference call set up and everyone would just call in and the professor would call roll and then lecture for an hour. We would e-mail our papers in. In order for him to help us with them, he'd have us read sections aloud sometimes. We all had syllabi with papers from former students so we'd go over them together and pick them apart and stuff like that.
Frankly, I could have done English 111 all by myself and probably English 213 too. Not to brag, but I've always been pretty good at English and paper writing so I basically just day-dreamed through both of those classes only sitting up and paying attention when it was about my turn to talk about my paper.
That being said, I like in person much better. It's easier to stay focused when I'm actually in class. On the phone, it's easy to get distracted and log onto Facebook or here or something.
I loved taking Biology over the internet though. Because it was online, we didn't do labs or anything and all the tests were open book over the internet.
So my parents enrolled me in private school for my senior year. They did that to prepare me for college so I would have some experience in a traditional classroom setting. This is not to say that homeschooling couldn't prepare you for college. My older siblings were homeschooled throughout high school and did fine in college. Just for me personally I don't think it have worked well.
For me, it was no problem going straight from homeschool to classroom. People always ask me if it was difficult and I'm like "no, not at all." I did take long distance classes so that might have helped a little but it wasn't near the same. I was still by myself at my desk and I had a headset for my phone so I'd walk around and do whatever: I'd have it on mute except when I was talking so I'd go to my room and get something or help Mom with dinner or do a chore I forgot while listening. Or, if I had nothing to do, I could sit at my desk and log onto Facebook while in class. Fortunately, the classes I took were pretty easy for me and I got good grades while doing hardly any work and hardly any studying (which I don't recommend doing).
But, it's different for everyone.

Do you love "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes?
If so you might like to see my sister's dramatization of this poem through her photography!

It sounds like it worked really well It's very different from our Australian system. Everything here is done online and most of the time you never speak to your coordinator unless you email him/her for something. For a lot of units they gave you podcasts of lectures to listen to but I'm afraid I very rarely did - it took me all my time to do the assignments!

Congratrulations Libby!
I was homeschooled up until highschool, but my sister went from kindergarten-grade 12 at home. Best way of growing up ever!
I think I graduate this fall. Depends on how fast I can do my last year of work.

My oldest sister graduated a few weeks ago, so that leaves five of us girls still homeschooling, with two brothers that will be soon! I'm going into eighth grade now, and have been home schooled all my life. So have all my sisters. Homeschooling is really great! But it really depends on the person, because I now people that hate going to school and some that love it, and the same for homeschooling.

Does anyone here homeschool through Columbia Virtual Academy? My little brother did it last year as a 4th grader, and he loved it! And my little sister is gonna do it next year as a 7th grader. It seems like a really good program for all online school. And it's totally free!
