For me it would just be boring if i was homeschooled. Their would be no one funny in the class. since their would only be me.

I admit homeschooling may not be for everyone, but I personally prefer not to have half my school day wasted by kids who are constantly a disturbance (And who cannot actually be disciplined by teachers).

Though no one funny, haha. You couldn't believe my family was homeschooled then, there are times we nearly fall over laughing with one other (And that is much better than laughing at one other.)

I do appreciate my family though, and that is one thing I think schools somewhat neglect. The family is so very important, and I do not like the way schools are making, 'different', families seem 'normal', 'inevitable', 'good', and even 'desirable'.

I have to say a hearty ditto to Gmatt's post. I have to admit that I have eight sibs that constantly do things that make me laugh, or all of us laugh.

I love being homeschooled. There are so many things that I can do being homeschooled that I couldn't do if I was public schooled.

Recently I've been asked by two people if I like homeschooling better than public school, and really I can't give an honest answer to that 'cause I've never been public schooled. Just from seeing what goes on in our schools I can say that I'd really rather not put myself in that position.

I also get people saying stuff like "people who are homeschooled aren't social". All the homeschoolers I know do not have that problem, but they also have at least four sibs.

Anyways that is my two cents, and I'd be happy to answer any questions that y'all have to the best of my ability.

"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.”

I'm a homeschooler and I'm graduating as a junior this year. I've been homeschooled my entire life.

I've been homeschooled my whole life except for one day of preschool ;) . I really like it and will definitely stay homeschooled for the rest of high school. :)

I'm a homeschooler and quite happy about it. I love being homeschooled, it way faster than Public or private schooling. Not that I've ever been public or private schooled. Thank you mom!

I think like 60% or more people on this website are homeschooled or were homeschooled. I didn't know their were so many people that were homeschooled. Since i have never meet one in real life.

IloveFauns, it's much rarer in Australia. I've only met several homeschoolers in my 26 years. I'm sure it works well for some people, but I know others that haven't been so lucky. It's vital to have knowledgeable, wise and loving parents. It's important to keep up-to-date and make sure what is learnt in the home qualifies in the outside world. Yeah, I'm not sold on the concept, but like I said, it seems to work well for some.

how many of you homeschoolers have tutors rather then your parents teach you?

Would that be considered homeschooling? I am honestly not sure. The idea would hearken back to the days when it was much more common, and homeschooling, in the sense it is known commonly now, wasn't, and apprenticeship was the norm. Apprenticeship itself is in a sense homeschooling, although it is not seen that way as much as school at home tends to be.

Warrior 4 Jesus, the one nice thing, for anyone really, homeschooled or not, is that if there is a certain subject one did not get enough of, it literally takes half a year or so of concentrated learning to learn it. This is beneficial in that when one finally decides on a career choice they can learn exactly what is necessary, on top of and in addition to the basics which most people will have.

I do think people would be surprised at the effectiveness of homeschooling, but by far the most important aspect is that you come to appreciate your family, something which is sorely neglected in the world at large today, and is vitally important for the health of civilization.

ILF and Warrior, I took several classes outside my home that were taught by other homeschooling parents. One mom taught Biology. A dad taught Algebra. I took Chemistry, Spanish, and PreCal in group settings as well. In the U.S., there are what are called support groups for homeschoolers.

Basically, if one parent doesn't know something it is very likely that another parent in the group does know it or knows someone who does and they set up a class for the student to attend. It is still homeschooling even though it isn't your parents teaching you.

It is important that your parents are aware of what they don't know, so they can find someone who does to teach you. Several curriculums out there are "self-taught," but they don't go into the depth that are available if you take a class. I did dissections and chemical experiments the same as if I was in a public high school while in some curriculums all I would have done was read about it.

And Warrior, you are correct. It works for some, but it doesn't work for others.

Two guys in my Algebra club chose to go back to a public high school as they felt that they could be a witness there and they wanted to see if there was something that they could do there that they couldn't do at home. One stayed. One returned to homeschooling.

I've been in a large majority of the types of schooling that the U.S. has to offer. I was in a Montessori school, a private school, a public school, and I was homeschooled. To me, if/when I get married and have kids, I would choose homeschooling first or private schooling for them.

Edit: HSLDA lawyer, Chris Klicka, passed away yesterday. He'd been ill for awhile.

ILF, I've never had a tutor. My mom has taught me everything I've learned.

In fact, my mom wanted me to ask you guys if any of you have ever used a curriculum called Switched-On Schoolhouse. She learned about it on Christianbook.com and wondered if any of you guys had ever used it, and if you liked it, etc.

Narnia Girl, I've never used it, but I do know someone who currently does and she likes it a lot. That's about all I know about it though.
