Well, a few days ago, J.K. Rowling had fans do a "virtual scavenger hunt", by posting coordinates to different Harry Potter fan-sites. It ultimately led to a twitter page ( http://twitter.com/#!/pottermore ) which then directed fans to the website (pottermore.com). A day later, the twitter page posted a link to the Pottermore youtube page ( http://www.youtube.com/JKRowlingAnnounces ), counting down an announcement J.K. Rowling is going to make....no one knows exactly what it is yet.
I suppose it is most likely Harry Potter related but it doesn't make any sense to me. It can't be another book. So what could it be?

Ooh, that's very interesting! I wish to anything it was another book...that would make my year. But I don't want to get my hopes up.
My second thoughts would be that maybe it's some sort of companion book - like a HP encyclopedia? Or maybe some sort of online HP roleplaying website. But I really don't want to guess. Better just wait and see.
Oooh, this is so exciting!

JKR's people have said nothing except that it won't be another book.
Several of the Harry Potter fan site operators (MuggleNet, Leaky, HPANA) have had a chance to view a preview of Pottermore though and they say that it's "fantastic" and "breathtaking".
I think a game might be fun. POTTER Multi-player Online Role-playing Experience is something that I've seen thrown around by other fans so that is one possibility. An encyclopedia is another good speculation. Jo has mentioned something about an encyclopedia of the HP universe before.
Can't wait to find out what it is.
I have no idea what it will be....... I hope it isn't something stupid.
really fast, the trailer...does anyone have the link you it on youtube?
NW twin to Georgiefan! NW sib to 22!
avvie by AslansChild thank you!!!
Here ya go, gfan!
That's good speculation, qKate. So good, in fact, that I won't be surprised if that's what it ends up being.
"To the Great Western Wood, I give you...."
I might play it if it is. Just to see what it is like.
THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow, I have no clue how to describe that trailer bacause it is so epic, this movie needs to come out faster!!!!!
EtJ, thank you for the link!

I think they said it wasn't an encyclopedia.
I hope it isn't a role-playing game because that doesn't really interest me. I'm setting myself up to be disappointed so that I can be pleasantly suprised if it is cool. I also won't have internet access starting the 23rd and continuing for 6 weeks, so it's probably good if I'm not hanging on tenderhooks to figure it out.
I just watched the final trailer and oh. my. goodness. I'll also be missing this movie. I can't believe I have to wait two weeks after it comes out to see it.
I'm crossing my fingers for an MMO. I've wanted a Harry Potter MMO for awhile now.
Kate, I'm in the same boat when it comes to the movie. Only way I'll get to see it in theaters is if it's still there when uni starts up in August.
I just bought 5 tickets to see HP 7.2 at midnight!!!!!
does anyone know how early I should show up?

I would go as early as possible because you will end up sitting next to people you don't know. It has happened to me before and it aint fun.
I've never been to a midnight showing before, but I have friends who have. Apparently, they get there like 1 1/2 - 2 hours early and just sit there and talk. But you don't have to do that - it just depends on how picky you are about seating.
In other news...
J.K. Rowling is going to make her announcement about Pottermore in approximately 7 hours, 33 minutes, and 20 seconds!
Just thought you ought to know.

The best thing about Midnight Showings, is that you don't have to feel like an idiot for standing in line for several hours decked out in your best Wizard Robes out of season (i.e. Halloween season):
1) Because it's dark.
2) Because it's mostly Potter-Geeks (like me) who are fanatical enough to go to a midnight showing ...and most of them will likely be decked out in some equally ridiculous regalia (I really hope someone shows up wearing Luna Lovegood's Lion Hat ).

I once went to a midnight showing where a lady dressed up as Harry Potter, robes, glasses, Gryffindor scarf and all, and she was passing out Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans to everyone in the audience.
So, we now know Pottermore is an "online reading experience".....which basically means "Multi-player Online Role-playing Experience".
I'm excited to check out the site.
Despite not being an encyclopedia, I think she did say we'll be able to find out more info about characters through the site.
It doesn't officially open until October but some people will get a chance to try it early.
