Amazing how just a couple inches of snow can cause so many traffic headaches. Probably that freezing rain that started the show - the side streets are a skating rink. It was something of an adventure meeting friends for lunch earlier today.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Four to five inches in the bac yard.
know what you mean stargazer. Just got back from my nephew's school play. Almost didn't make it there. Was turning on an on ramp when the fellow ahead of us turned a 180. He went into the ditch trying to turn around, but was not hurt #:-s
Worst of the road along I-94 is from St,Cloud to Avon. It gets better from there. from what I hear the temps are supposed to get warmer later in the week, soI suppose it will mostly melt off.

It has been raining steadily here for at least 3 hours now. Totals show .60 of an inch so far but I'm sure will be higher when updated.

More rain coming late Wednesday night. I hope to arrive at my Aunt and Uncle's for Thanksgiving before it starts. :)

We have a storm coming in tonight and some forecasts are saying something about an inch of this white stuff that I think some people not from here call...what's that word....'snow'?

I'll believe it when I see it and even if it does come, it will literally last less than a couple hours.

My area of MN had some light snow last night. Some of it has melted, but a good amount of maybe less than an inch has stayed upon the ground as it is now getting colder. Some ice has frozen over some rocks in our garden, but at least not much is on the roads.

The temperatures have been in the high 20's and lower 30's now, yet I have braved a 1-2 mile walk home still. :p

I'm adapted to the weather though, living in MN all of my life.

Did you get your snow, Fencer?

We had remarkable heat for Thanksgiving last week, with temperatures even in northeast Minnesota (where I visited family) around 50F/10C. Incredible for the end of November! The ski areas had tried to make snow but it's hard to compete with that kind of melting power.

But it's December now and winter just can't be too far away. A storm may give us some snow this weekend, or pass just to our south (the storm track remains uncertain). And then next week, we may get our first 0F/-17C reading of the season.

Fun trivia fact: in the Northern Hemisphere, the shortest day comes on the solstice (the 22nd this year). However, in mid-northern latitudes, the earliest sunset actually comes next week (around Dec. 7-10). The sunset times then slowly begin getting later again - but the days continue to get shorter because the sunrise times continue getting later (until around Jan. 4). It probably sounds more confusing than it really is. ;))

It's trying right now. I've seen some very faint flakes, but not enough to call it 'snowing'. For El Paso it counts, but I'm originally from Denver, so not yet. If we don't get it today, we are expecting an even bigger chance Monday or Tuesday.

Doesn't usually snow here except in the local mountains. But it has gotten a bit colder than usual and we hit 35.1F/1.7C this morning.

The cold will continue through Tuesday and there is a chance of hitting freezing or below as it was cooler today (high=57.2F/14.0C) than yesterday (58.8F/14.9C). B-)

No rain in the immediate forecast...

Meanwhile around here, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...everywhere I go. (Hmm, I have to resist the temptation to burst into song ;)) ).

We got about 4 inches of the white stuff, and with the cooler temperatures forecast for this week, this may be around a while.

It's snowing in El Paso now. It's really bad between Las Cruces and Albuquerque right now as I-25 is completely shut down for the night for that whole length and from Las Cruces almost to the Arizona border. I expect we'll get about an inch tonight or so, but it's not supposed to get much above freezing tomorrow, so it actually might stay for more than a couple hours. We'll see. And tomorrow, I have stuff to do in town and relying on El Paso bus drivers in snowy conditions doesn't sound too interesting.

What a difference a year makes! Last year at this time we already had snow piles everywhere, and a 17-inch snowfall caused the Metrodome roof collapse a year ago today.

This entire week will be cloudy, foggy, and dreary, and our meager snow is melting away under temperatures way above the average (The Weather Channel meteorologists observed that we were 'basking in the heat' with today's high of 39F/4C) and the next big storm might actually bring rain tomorrow and Wednesday, rather than snow.

At this rate we'll be hard pressed for a white Christmas. (We're normally in the 75-90% probability range for that).

And it's that time of year to bring out appropriate maps:

My area of Minnesota is actually getting a bit warmer. Today on my walk home, even through the gray clouds overhead, it was perhaps around 35-40 degrees F. The snow and ice on the streets and sidewalks were slushy, and everything else was dripping water everywhere.

For some reason, school was cancelled in some parts today... I don't know why, since it's not like it was snowing really hard around the area. :-

Getting some good rain here at work (contract) in Murrieta, California. 0.49 inches so far with more on the way. Cold too as the high today has only reached 48F/9C.

Snow can be seen on the local mountains so that is where the White Christmas is for us. :)

We finally got some snow!!! In my college town, usually we have three to four feet of snow by now, but, for some reason, this winter has been very dry. We had a little bit of snow a few weeks ago, but it melted, and then the temperature plummeted, so that it was way too cold to snow (yes, that does happen). It was like that for a few days, but the past week or so it's been around or above freezing, which is actually quite warm for this time of year. I never thought I'd be excited to see snow!

It's been extremely dry here too, Fire Fairy. What little snow we've received has been relegated to those little dirty piles one normally sees in spring, leftovers from much larger piles in parking lots and such.

Today's high of 45F/7C tied the record set in 1962. It's mid-December and we've had less than a foot of snow, and haven't even reached 0F/-17C yet. Remarkable!

There's little white stuff in the forecast, so it looks like a brown Christmas for us - the first one since 2006. But not to worry...just a week later, on New Year's Eve 2006, we had plenty of snow, with large drifts and many vehicles in the ditches. Driving to my friend's house that night was quite a challenge.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
