That's summer weather, jo!
Alas, the storm track shifted eastward, meaning all that snow fell in central Wisconsin. Some areas received 6 inches or more. It was actually very pleasant here today, with sunshine and temperatures approaching 50F/10C. Just right for a walk in the park.
We're past our average date for the season's first 1-inch snowfall, with nary a flake in sight. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Last year had a similar pattern - an October much warmer than average, and no real snow until BAM! Over a foot of wet heavy snow fell November 13, snapping lots of tree limbs and power lines. (Current forecasts out to Nov. 13 indicate no such storm this year, at least not yet...)
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
First time on this thread. figured I better get on here as the Mrs's just came in, and said that we got some snow falling. granted it's only a few flakes,(shake my head, and I would get as much I suppose), but with all the talk of winter coming it's better than nothing.
stargazer. Were you around ten years ago when Minnesota was hit with the holloween blizzerd? Thirty inches in one day as I recall.
Welcome, Puddleglum! How do you Marsh-wggles like the snow?
I'll have to check outside when I finish here. I can hear the wind blowing and I know it's overcast (it was clear several hours ago when I stepped outside to see the Moon near Jupiter).
I remember well the Halloween Blizzard (I made a few comments about it here). The sharpest image in my mind is probably going out in the morning to go to work. I lived in St Paul at the time, just a few miles from my workplace (the old Dayton's warehouse), but when I saw a huge white mound where my car used to be, I went back inside and called to tell them I wouldn't be coming in that day. They did close shortly thereafter.
Southern Minnesota got hit with an ice storm instead. Up to 4 inches of solid ice snapped a lot of trees and powerlines; my parents were literally iced in for several days. (My aunt and uncle, visiting from Crookston in far northwest Minnesota, vowed they'd never visit again).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Every fall I ask myself why Aslan never made Marsh-Wiggles with the capability of hibernating like other marsh dwellers, like frogs, and such A word of advice. Never stand out in a freezing rain in one spot for long. Having to call out for help to have other Marsh-wiggles to chip you out is quite embarassing
I have also been watching the celestial dance in the sky lately. I must pull the old telescope out, and have a closer look.
Today the weather was really alarming: I kept seeing Facebook status updates of snow, and was really not getting it all, because despite the overcast gray sky, there were tiny bouts of sunshine. Then my sister yelled from the other room, "It's snowing!!" And it snowed for about five minutes. The sky is pretty gray, so I don't know if it's snowing at the moment, but it was *so* exciting to see the first snow of the season.

Enjoyed my last evening out with a fire. It was too dark for getting out the bratwurst. I would not be able to see if they were done.
Not too cold out yet, but it started getting a little breezy after seven.
There's just something about watching the embers flickering with the wind. Great opportunity to just sit, pray, and sing a few hymns.
Too bad it was too cloudy to see all the stars. That would have made it about perfect.
Did someone mention a fire?
I too could not resist getting out on what might be the last 60F/15C day for months. My fire (at Fridley's Springbrook Nature Center) was fairly small, nothing to write home about - but still big enough to grill up some Johnsonville brats to enjoy for the next few days.
Rain, wind, and maybe a few snowflakes are in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. I too would have liked to do a little stargazing tonight.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Decent weather today (which is good because we had two fire drills). Kinda cloudy, but it was warm and not too windy. I just want the snow to wait til Thanksgiving, so I can get the rest of my winter stuff from home, then I'll be good

Coldest night of the season so far coming up, with lows around 20F/-7C and windchills in the teens F. (Temps in northern Minnesota were around 10F/-13C this morning, with windchills around 0F/-17C). Ah, autumn in the north country.
Still no snow to speak of - but right now we're on the edge of an approaching storm this weekend; we may get some rain followed by the first accumulation of the season, just a few sloppy inches. But areas just northwest of here may see 6 inches/15 cm or more.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
A bit of white frosty stuff blowing around out there. nothing accumulating, (did I spell that right?). The Weatherpeople are talking about having to take out the shovels this weekend. Should be interesting driving.
Puddleglum, welcome to the Weather thread! I chuckled at your answer to stargazer's question about how Marshwiggles enjoy the snow. But, then, you do have wigwams.
wolfy, I hope you get those winter clothes soon.

Today was our debut of snow flurries. We usually see them before now, but this fall has had unusually mild spells. But this afternoon, the flurries came for the first time: they were sooo pretty. And the cloud formations were stunning: ominous and grand. Nothing near any accumulation, but just seeing those white flakes swirl and twirl brought a big to my face. Yes, 'tis very exciting, Bella.

Mmm, sounds lovely! To be honest, I hadn't looked carefully at the post-er's name, and thought that was stargazer writing. It looks like you two have a few things in common.
Coldest night of the season so far coming up, with lows around 20F/-7C and windchills in the teens F.
Tonight will be our coldest yet, with the temperatures dropping from today's cool-ish 4C/41F to -5C/23F tonight with a slight windchill.
This weekend we are becoming milder again in southern Ontario (highs of 10C/50F on Sunday), but we're heading 'up north' a few hours to areas who have already seen snowfalls, so we'll see what it's like there. Hoping to do a good deal of hiking in the beautiful and picturesque Bruce/Georgian Bay peninsula area.
NEWS BULLETIN: whilst I was typing the above paragraph, the clouds become darker and fuller, laden with precipitation, which they let fall in abundance for about 10 minutes just now. Quite the picturesque snow squall! But now it's over, and the heavy clouds are moving away over the lake, making room for the beginnings of a rather unusual and lovely sunset.

Today was our debut of snow flurries.
Same here on the other side of the Lake! First snow of the season I wish I had a camera it was so pretty. Later on we even had a bit of a sun shower except with snow instead of rain. It was beautiful!!!
I heard that we were supposed to get quite a few inches overnight, but it stopped for now and not much is sticking, my guess is it'll pass us and hit Fulton, our neighboring city.

Expecting something worth getting the old snowblower out tomorrow. Might even have to wake the young pollywog in the morning, and hand him a shovel
Ever have one of those feelings of both anticipation, and dread? I know what's coming, and the trouble that comes with it. But just the sight of fresh fallen snow sort of, well, don't tell any of the other marsh-wiggles but I might even loose the frown for a minute
I live in MN, and this afternoon where I live, we got our first official snow! It seemed to start as a rain/snow mix, but as time went on, it clearly was snowing. Most of it has melted, but there is still visible amounts of it in the dirt and on roofs.
Ah, yes, time to wear the winter coat and hats and gloves for sure. And prepare the shovels and snow blowers.
