Wow so many dancers here!!! Does anybody do Bollywood?
My three sisters and I have a small dance troup. For now we dance modern ballet and Bollywood, but we plan to dance Russian, Mexican, Irish, and Spanish dancing in the future.

Yahoo!!!!!!! I've been looking for this thread for weeks!!!!
I've been dancing since I was five or so. My mom sent us (my four sisters, me, and my older brother) to a small children's dance ensemble. We stayed there for about two or three years, but eventually quit. When I was 11 my mom sent us all to another dance troupe, where we danced Acrobatic Rock'n'roll formation. My brother was the only boy in a troupe of 13 girls (our family made up half the class . There are always a lot of us wherever we go) He and my youngest sister (De_De) were in a pair together and won several all-city competitions. We stopped going in 2007, because our trainer moved.
My older sister is now studying choreography, and has made a dance troupe of us, her three younger sisters. Like De_De wrote, we do Bollywood and a little modern ballet. We also do a little hip-hop.
There are so many cool dancers here!! I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. I'm leaving for three weeks and won't have any internet, but I hope to get back here and stay in touch with you all!

I'm back from vacation. I'll be glad to discuss any sorts of dancing with anyone...if anyone is interested. I see no one's posted in awhile...how are all of you? How are your troupes/dance lessons/dances coming along?

I switched songs for my captain's tryout solo. I'm dancing to Mark Harris's One True God. I have it fully choreographed, and am now practicing it for my tryouts. I found out I may be dancing it at a festival in town to help raise money for my team, too.

Well, dance season is in full swing. We had a dessert and art auction for a fundraiser yesterday and it was awesome! Except for one small part.
So we danced a routine in the middle of the auction and we're doing it and right when we hit a pose on our toes with one arm up and one arm down, the music stops. So our instructor is trying to get it going but it won't work so finally we just finish to counts. At the end, someone asked for an encore but the music still wouldn't work so we had to sing it while we danced!!
Does anyone else know how to do Cotton-Eyed Joe? Or the Cupid Shuffle? Or the Cha-Cha Slide? I love doing those dances. They're so much fun to do with a bunch of people. Or by yourself. This summer, I was commercially fishing with my family and we had to get up early and stay up late and we were always tired and cold. So whenever I first woke up, I would go out on deck and do Cotton-Eyed Joe to wake up and I'd do it to warm up too. It was awesome! Except another guy on a different boat saw me and later said, "Were you dancing on the boat? I was like, wow that's crazy." Then he admitted he danced too while fishing. lol
Aw, narnian at heart, that's too bad about the music. Though it's nice that people still appreciated the dancing. That has happened to me before too!
I Irish Step Dance and one time during a performance (it was an "Irish Dinner" heritage thingy for college students), the sound maintenance dude accidentally bumped the controls while sitting down. The music stopped right when me and my dance partner were halfway through our two-hand reel (and we had been doing it perfectly). So we started the dance over...only this time we messed up.
It was still a fun performance, but...I hate it when things like that happen.
Oh! I know how to dance Cotton-Eyed Joe! I'm pretty sure I've danced the other two as well, but not as much. I've been to several church and youth group square dance nights and such. That's so funny that you would dance it to warm up!! I would totally do the same thing!!
I'm pretty sure I've posted somewhere on here before...but if you didn't know, I've been Irish Step Dancing for about six years now. And I'm now assistant teaching the beginners' class in my dance school. Fun, fun!
Here's a picture of our advanced class at our spring recital. I'm the one right under the "H" with the mint-green cape.

Today, winterlife and I worked on picking music and choreographing our duet. We're doing it to Glow by Britt Nicole. It took us an hour to pick the song and we only have the first two eight counts choreographed so far.
I'm also going to be doing a duet with my little sister to Slow Fade by Casting Crowns.
^ You forgot to mention that the first eight count is just standing there.
I'm going to be choreographing my solo to I See Love. I'm not sure who the artist technically is, because it's a mix, so I just say it's by Third Day.

Wow RubyGamgee you do Irish step! That is so cool! I always wanted to learn it, but never got the chance. Although now my sister found a girl who will give my three sisters and I a master class in November. I am really looking forward to that!

I've probably said this already a thousand times but... Ruby, you are SO lucky to get to do Irish step dancing! It must be so fun! I still want to get to do it one day, but probably as an adult as we can't afford it now, and because I dance enough already.
Oh, and nice picture! Do you wear wigs at all, or do you just curl your hair for performances? I don't think I could stand wearing a wig. My hair is almost past my waist and I couldn't imagine trying to put my hair in one.
Well, dance started up again last week. Finally! I had Advanced Tap and Int/Adv ballet tech on Monday, on Wednesday I had nothing because my very first class in Advanced Jazz was postponed until next week, ( ) and on Thursday, I had Ballet 5 and pointe class.
Even though jazz was canceled all of my other classes were great! I didn't dance on pointe Thursday because I don't have my pointe shoes yet, but my mom's going to try and get an appointement to get a pair fitted this week. I can't wait!
Proud ballet dancer!
4/23/12 - First triple pirouette en pointe!
^^ Lucky I wish I was already in pointe
I don't get in to it till next fall...

TheGentleWarrior, my dance team has to wear wigs for our main performance. And we're wearing two costumes on top of each other because we have to strip the top layer off part way through. Talk about hot!!!! But, I get to wear this really cool dance jeans. They're like jeans but they're really stretchy so you can dance in them and they have rhinestones down the side seam so they sparkler.
So I was watching this video of dance movesand there was an ad for other dance videos after the video ended. And the hip hop video looked AWESOME. So I know that my college has Latin dance classes because my sister takes them so I'm looking into whether my college has a hip hop/funk class to take.
Well, I was just looking at my college website and they do have a hip-hop class! They also have break dancing and belly dancing. (Break dancing might be fun but I really don't want to do belly dancing.) I just hope they still have it when I go to college in January.
So does anyone do hip-hop/funk kind of dancing? It looks so fun!
This summer I am dancing to Hey Soul Sister by Train!!!!
I love that song! What was the dance like?
A friend of mine is really talented at dancing. She did hip hop first, and then ballet. Now she's an instructor in both, I believe. And she's only about 15!
