I have dance ballet, jazz, hip hop and tap. but quit tap and hip hop because of school so I only take ballet and jazz now. I'm in my 2nd year of pointe which I LOVE!! I'm not the best at ballet but it is my passion my favorite type of dance. jazz is just so much fun!! with each teacher I have for jazz all the new styles keep me on my toes and its quite fun! My studio director is recruiting me for an advanced hip hop class though, we just need enough people and the class will start so I hope I can do that

avvie by AslansChild thank you!!!
Wow, it's been awhile since I last posted on here. Lol, catchup!
@daughter of the king, thanks for the explanation! I get it now.
@High King, Ooh, choreographing a show sounds really fun but so hard! I'm always trying to choreograph little dances for myself at home..... I'm no good. My twin sis LOVES to tap dance btw. If she could, she'd tap dance 24/7! She likes talking about tap dancing with people.
You know, when we were about 5 years old, my very first dance teacher had just ended a tap class with us and had some free time before the next class so he went to go talk to my mom. He said, "I'm going to guess just by watching them dance, I think she's going to really be into ballet (me), and she (my sis) is going to be into tap dancing."
10 years later, we're both in advanced tap, ballet, and int/adv jazz classes together.... i'm enrolled into pre-pointe while desperately waiting for my pointe shoes while my sister things dancing on your toes is crazy, and she is happily tap dancing on washbins while i'm scared to jump up on one. My first teacher was SO right about us!
Ginny did you make it into the advanced hip hop class?? Idk if you've mentioned anything about it on YT or not. I hope the director managed to get the class started!
Proud ballet dancer!
4/23/12 - First triple pirouette en pointe!
I started doing Irish dancing about 4/5 years ago. I really enjoy it, and I have done 3 Irish exams, and 3 main shows.

I'm on a Christian drill team. (The same one winterlife is on). It's really fun and I love it. One thing I love about it, is I'm getting more flexible. I can almost do the splits now and a few more weeks of stretching every night and I will be. Plus, it's just plain fun.
At our first performance, we did pretty well. I'm co-captain of our team and since the captain was out of town, I was acting captain which meant I got to do this cool salute and call everyone out.
A bunch of the stuff we do is taken from ballet: pirouettes, most of the jumps, and arm postions.
Time for a sentimental sigh. Dance this year is about over. We have one more performance but we're only doing our main dance that has everyone doing it. We don't get to do any of our solos or trios.
I can't wait until next year. This year was basically a trial run. Next year, instead of just having one big dance with everyone, we're going to have two or three and it'll be bigger and a longer season. I'm super excited.

You mean "instead of just having one big dance team, right? Yeah, I'm working on a solo to try out for officer next season.
I miss dance already, too. But I'm not sure if I'll be able to dance for practice on Thursday. I'm really sore.

I used to do dance at church with the dance team all the time, but then our dance leader died of cancer and the dance team broke up. but I still choreograph dances to songs all the time! I love it!

Right now, I'm working on choreographing a solo for officer tryouts for next season. I'm doing it to Never Alone by BarlowGirl although, knowing me, I'll probably end up thinking I could do better and totally re-doing it a week before tryouts. Either that, or I'll choreograph 3 different dances and still be trying to decide which one three seconds before I have to tryout.
I did a dance to a song by the band Red called "Pieces" in fron t of my church on a sunday morning a couple of months ago! it took me a long time to choreograph that dance!

heehee I have my solo half choreographed already. It turned out suprisingly easy so far. Although the chorus will probably be harder.
Oh, it's to The Alter and the Door by Casting Crowns.

Here's a question for you choreographers: How do you do it? Do you choreograph it in your head first, or do you just start dancing, or do you know what moves you want to put in before you begin? I've choreographed a ton of dances myself, but I was wondering what your method is.
I just start dancing. And as I dance, I do different moves and jumps in it that I already know trying them in different spots to see what works. I do know some of the moves I want to do before hand but I don't know where they'll fit in to the dance. I never think it out before hand or choreograph it in my head.
Sometimes I choreograph it in my head first, but that's only part of it, never the whole routine. Most of what I have down on my routine so far was choreographed while dancing.

Yea. Like in mine, I just started dancing to the song, Never Alone by BarlowGirl. It's slow for the first little bit so as I was starting dancing, I just raised my head slowly and then I thought Oh, I'm gonna keep that and I paused the music and wrote it down.
I write down what I'm doing by counts (if there's not lyrics at that point in the song) or by the word that's being sung right then and the counts (if there are lyrics because I don't want to lose track of what counts I'm on and because it's easier to remember it to the words that are being sung).
Sorry I took so long to reply, I've been busy getting ready for school and I've been having internet problems.

I'm a lot like that. I always start by just listening to the song over and over again until I get an idea of how I want to start. I'm a visual thinker, so it's easy for me to hear a song and then see a dance in my head. But usually only the first verse winds up how I pictured it.

You write yours down? I'm impressed; I was never able to write down my dances. A lot of my teachers almost always wrote down the choreography, but I always had a hard time doing that for some reason.
