Hey guys! Welcome back to the dance thread! Where you talk about all things dance! The last thing we were talking about in the old dance thread in the old forum was, What type of dance you do, What dance classes you have taken before and have you been taking any recently, pointe shoe info and so much more! So feel free to talk about all things dance here!
What type of dance does everyone take? I take tap, jazz, ballet, and pre-pointe. This year i'm in Advanced tap, Int/Adv jazz, Advanced ballet, and pre-pointe. Next semester, in around January, i'm going to be adding Pointe 1 to my pre-pointe class (both are non recital though)
Intresting fact, I just found out my ballet teacher is a big Narnia fan! She plays music from the movie soundtracks while we do strenghtening work in pre-pointe!

Cool!! I take modern. I used to take ballet as well, but I had to quit because I was too busy. XD

I have taken jazz, hip hop, tap, ballet, lyrical, pointe, and modern. Wasn't crazy any of them except for hip hop and modern, my real passion. I have next to no arch, so pointe was always a struggle to get on my box. Modern was about pushing the envelope and being abstract, which I love. God recently called me away from my old studio to take just a modern class, and I'm loving it. He's looking out for me!

I've taken ballet for five years. I took ballet, tap, lyrical, and pre-pointe. I'm not taking any ballet classes this year, but next year my mom is planning to sign me up for pointe. I can't wait...I love dance classes.

The only dance I have ever taken is Irish Step Dance. I've taken it for about three years now and I really love it. I'm not sure though if I want to make dance my profession, though. I really struggle with being flexible enough, but I have gotten better over the past years. My main problem is that I started when I was twelve instead of like when I was seven. I did take gymnastics for a few years before that, though...
I've always wanted to try Hip-Hop and modern!! They sound like so much fun.

I've always wanted to take lyrical and Irish step dancing!! But, beginning teen lyrical at my school has been at the exact same time as my ballet class for the past 3 years so I pretty much have no hope of getting into lyrical at all, because that's the only teen lyrical class in the whole school and I don't want to drop ballet for it. So i'm stuck with a major lyrical problem.
I want to take Irish step dancing too, but the school I want to go to that is closest to where I live is super expensive, has classes at times that cause major conflicts with other things I do, and, if I took it, i'd pretty much have every day of the week stuffed with things to do! Recitals would be a nightmare.
Lol, I love dance a lot, but having 4 classes a week is hard enough, imagine taking 6!
Is there a difference between modern dance and lyrical? I always kinda thought they were the same thing.....

Modern and lyrical are very similar and use a lot of the same techniques. Have you ever heard of interpretive dance? Lyrical is like a modern form of that. Modern dance can go with any piece of music, lyrical specifically goes with a song and interprets the lyrics, hence the name. If you take modern and always dance to songs rather then instrumental pieces, then there probably isn't a whole lot of difference. Does that help explain it?
I've taken dance for about 8 years and I do mostly ballet and point. My teachers focus more on the interpretational style of dance. She will put on a particular piece of music and then my classmates and I will dance to it. Our studio is a christian studio and we try to do all of our dancing for the glory of God. So basically out interpretation of the music is really our dances for God. I absolutely love the dance I do.

I've done a little ballet, but not much. I recently started taking swing dancing lessons and it's sooooo much fun!!! My sister and I are taking with a big group of friends from our church which makes it even more fun.

Awesome, winterlife! I hope it goes well!!
The only dance class I've taken was a Ballroom-dance class at a local community college, but I loved it!! We learned the beginning steps of Waltz, Rhumba, Cha-Cha, Swing (I don't remember if it was east or west coast style), Foxtrot, and Tango. (I couldn't stand the Tango.. can you say AWKWARD!?) Waltz was definitely my favorite, but I loved the Swing too; it would be so much fun to take a class in a group!
I also love Ballet, even though I've never been able to take it.

I took ballet from the time I was 5 until I was 14, but I had to quit because my ankles couldn't handle the strain of pointe... bummer. Now, I just DANCE. I don't know what you'd call it, I combine just about everything into the kind of dancing I do. I also adore swing dancing, although I've only done a little bit =) My sister Pen and I love dancing to PureNRG music while we dance. since it is made by three kids who sing and dance themselves, its suited perfectly to dance to. One of my favorite things to do is dance classical ballet to pretty "hard" music, like rock or techno. The effect is very dramatic and lots of fun! *Thinks its so cool that other Narnians like to dance*

I take ballet, jazz, tap, and ballroom. I help teach ballroom and jazz classes. I really like to dance the jitterbug and waltz and I like broadway hip hop. As for teaching I have chorographed one show and have one lined up for the sping. Its fun but at the same time its really hard and stressful lol but it was a good time. But my favorite of all time i would have to say is tap its the best!!!!!!!!!! (i'm not great at it but... its my fav lol)
