"Omp"? How do you use that in a sentence? :-

Uh, I've no idea if I'm even saying this right, but what about the phrase "Pippity-Boo"

Ex: "Don't worry, it'll all be Pippity-Boo."
AKA
"Everything will be fine."

Do people still say that?

I've never heard of "omp" either. Unless it's an Internet abbreviation like "O.M.G." used by Christians who don't want to blaspheme. :)

I think the phrase you're thinking of is "tickitty-boo". That's another archaic upper-class expression, mostly used by characters in P.G. Wodehouse novels.

The only time I've ever come across "Great Scott" is Doc Brown saying it in "Back To The Future", to which Marty McFly replies that it's "heavy".

Doc Brown was actually commenting on the latest Ridley Scott movie - "Great, Scott!"

But seriously, I've never heard of OMP either. Oh My Pastor?

Perhaps Edith Nesbit used Great Scott in her children's books?
(I just reread some of them, but I didn't look for such expressions.)
Lewis was heavily influenced by those, sometimes even for the way he might assume that children spoke ...

It also stands for "Oh my platypus" from what I've heard. ;))

Wow this conversation has been an interesting read! :p

Just so that all is made clear, I will finally post something I typed up (but never posted) weeks ago when you guys brought this up...

Actually, it's "Oh My Platypus". :p
And it's not an internet-wide thing... it's a Narniaweb thing. I forget how or why this started... but, Tirian set it up so that any time anyone tries to put that... that OTHER thing, that it would write "omp" instead. Funny, right? ;))

I'm actually surprised you guys hadn't noticed it til now. It's been like that for a few years now, at least. ;)

As for the information about things like "Great, Scott!" and all that... interesting stuff!

Yeah. And on top of all that, people have used it on facebook and in real life too! Ok... let's return this topic to normal... thank you!

(FYI- the reason I didn't post it before now, is because people had stopped talking about it. I didn't want to perpetuate (sp?) it. But since you're bringing it back up, I figured why not stop it before we have pages and pages of talk about it? I don't want anyone getting sick of it. It's funny now, sure. but it could get old real fast ;) )

Is the word "fool" offensive to Americans? because my use of it on another forum caused a stir and I couldn't understand why. Here in Australia we call people fools as a silly thing.

It's not considered a swear word or anything. It's considered a mild insult. If you call someone a fool, you're basically calling them stupid.

Yeah, fool isn't necessarily a swear word but I can see someone getting offended if you called them that. (Not your fault at all, just a cultural difference.) It's not as offensive as some words are, but it is still pretty strong. That's funny that you use it in a silly way in Australia, though. I like it. ;))

It is in the part of Australia I live, not sure about other states/regions. Just how it is hard for people to see it not as offensive it just as hard for me to see why it is offensive.

I have a question for all you Americans :D My older brother said that in the States you don't have the 13th floor in most buildings. Like there is the 12th floor and then the next one is the 14th. Is that true?

I've heard that also, De_De, but there's always been a 13th floor in the buildings I've been in (here in the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest). Maybe it applies to some older buildings in the older cities back East?

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Is that due to superstitions about the number 13?. I would find it strange just because a number which is "consider"(huge emphasis on that) unlucky, not to include it on a building but i don't know when were they built?.

here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirteenth_floor

With the mention of the 12A/b, I actually think i have seen that in a hotel in perth(which is strange,). I didn't really think much of it at the time.

I know there are some apartment buildings in Toronto that don't have Floor 13. They skip right from 12 to 14. Odd, imho.

So, big news in Canada this past Monday: our penny is being phased out.
**Royal Canadian Mint article**
Apparently this will save the taxpayers millions of dollars per year.

I guess that means we will have to start saying "a nickel for your thoughts" or "I feel like two nickels". ;))
