Yes, but then what is the "right" way to center a map???

I personally would put Great Britain and the European continent (and, since Asia, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent are more or less attached to Europe in some way, they would be included as well) as the centre of the map, basically for historical purposes: North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, etc, all were founded and colonised by British and European countries first, so to me it makes sense to put the Old Countries, the mother- and father-lands in the middle, and their children moreso around the edges. :)

Kind folks of old, you come again no more.

I guess it depends where you live... really I doubt there is a specified "correct map center" though I do prefer the Altantic in the center.

One could center the map on the prime meridian of longitude. This puts Europe more or less in the middle since that meridian passes through the Royal Greenwich Observatory in England. :)

Don't you think it would be rather cool to have an upside down map? B-) That way at least would be original. :D Whichever way you centred it.

Wild rose, I hope this answers your query. Also known as the feast of Stephen, or the saint's day for St Stephen the Martyr, Boxing Day is the downstairs Christmas feast for the staff and workers who made Christmas Day such a lovely occasion for their upstairs lords and masters who give them gifts in boxes. It is also a time to give presents to the poor and needy.

Traditionally this is also a day for when the Christmas wrappings and left-overs were cleared away. You can read more about Boxing Day here. Boxing Day is celebrated in UK and in Commonwealth countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand etc.

There are three things about Boxing Day, in Australia, at any rate, to be noted:

1. Boxing Day sales when avid shoppers, if they are quick and strong enough, can find good bargains among discounted goods.

2. The sports minded who don't watch cricket matches can enjoy watching the start of the traditional yearly Sydney-Hobart yacht race, which starts in Sydney Harbour and finishes at Constitution Dock in Hobart. Participants will find this particular race is not for the faint-hearted as weather across Bass Strait and down the South Eastern coast can be somewhat stormy.

3. This is the day when the box office in Australia, at any rate, does really well, due to the large amount of children attending Christmas movies. Movies like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), Happy Feet (2006) and even the 2007 Golden Compass movie really do well from a Boxing Day release. Those movies have by far the best marketing campaigns as well, to entice families who are planning how they will spend their Boxing Day holidays.

The exception was last year's Gulliver's Travels, competing against Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, VDT and other December release movies. Even Tangled, which had a January 6th release here, was a far more appealling movie. This year, we have a choice of Happy Feet 2 and Tintin: the Secret of the Unicorn, and I hope to see both, once the crowds die down.

Boxing Day, when millions of Commonwealth citizens enter the streets and engage in "King of the Hill" style pugilistic combat. Last man (or woman) standing is declared the winner. It's like the Hunger Games, but with boxing gloves. ILF won last year, I read. ;))

Just kidding! :P ;))

My.. question, isn't related to holidays. :P If you speak Japanese, know Japanese, etc. here's my question: What does "Narita" mean?
I'm aware that it's a city, airport, and something to do with a train station. But, in a name setting, what is its meaning?

Thank-you. :)

I do have a question :) and it's geared toward anyone not living in Russia :p
are there any certain superstitions that almost everyone believes in. Like things that people just don't do cause it's a bad superstition. And on a whole, how superstitious would you say the people in your country are? :)

We have a lot of half-believed superstitions concerning minor things here in the US. For example, making wishes on shooting stars or when blowing out birthday candles. And if you do make a wish, it's considered bad luck to tell anyone what your wish was -- lest it not come true; or worse, the opposite will come true. ;)) If you go up to someone and ask them, "Do you really believe it's bad luck to tell people what you wished for?" They'll respond, "No, of course not! ;)) It's just a superstition we have. Just for fun." But... they still will be too afraid to tell you what their wish was. ;)

Here's a question I've been wondering...

Do people in England still call the television the "Tellie"?

:) Thanks!
