That's quite the list, Bookwyrm. I haven't done an accurate count yet, but I'd estimate I have read around 150 of them. The list does seem to be weighted pretty heavily towards books in the last 20-30 years, though, especially in the older levels, and is missing some that I would have expected.
Edit:
189 ±3
I'm surprised at the level of quality they have for must-reads. Everything from Twilight to uh... much better stuff.
Hey, at least they included a Tintin. But I agree that the quality isn't very consistent. Some of the books they list are 'classics' and very good, but then they also have quite a few more recent books mixed in that I would not rate nearly as highly (coughartemisfowlcough). And unless I completely missed them, there were no Elizabeth Enright books. The list might prove useful in providing my younger-brother-who-reads-books-as-fast-as-we-can-suggest-them with more reading material, though.
Booky, where is that list from?
Hey, at least they included a Tintin.
This is true, but I couldn't count it because I think it's one of the one's I haven't read. I couldn't count Swallows and Amazons either because the library only had the second book in the series.
And why were there two Moomintroll books?

I've read about 189 from the list (give or take a few.)...
And unless I completely missed them, there were no Elizabeth Enright books.
I was surprised to see that none of Elizabeth Enright's books were on there! Her "Melendy" series, as well as "Gone Away Lake" are great! But I was very happy to see E. Nesbit's!
I am a big fan of the book "Simon Bloom: Gravity Keeper" by Mark Reisman!
it's so awesome!
I also like "The 13th Reality" books (sorry, I forgot who wrote those!)
and the "Leven Thumps" series by Obert Skye! I love those books!

Yes, I noticed they included a Tintin book and a rare one at that!
Rivulus, I think Artemis Fowl is much better than Twilight but yes, it's not the height of literature.
Currently watching:
Doctor Who - Season 11
Riv, I found it on LibraryThing. Apparently it's a companion to the list of 1001 adult books you should read before you die. Most of the books on the adult list I could die without reading and be just fine.
I didn't even notice they had left off Elizabeth Enright. At least one of her books should have been on there. They could have given her Twilight's spot.
Currently reading Babylonne, the sequel to the Pagan series and Moving Pictures, a Discworld book.
Silvertongue: I read The Mysterious Benedict Society. It seemed so promising. Puzzles, fun kids with fun personalities, a character named Kate, excitement and danger? What could be better? Unfortunately, I found it kind of boring. All the elements were there, but not the execution. I didn't read the second one.
Warrior: I found 1984 boring and rather disturbing. I didn't so much mind the ending because by that point I didn't really care about Winston all that much. I wanted a fair society, obviously, but I was just glad to be done with all the lust and the boring explanatory sections.
Was Alexandre Dumas perhaps payed by the word? I'm hoping that all the random excapades of Sinbad the Sailor and Franz and Albert will eventually have a point, but at the moment, they're a bit boring and I keep wondering when we're getting back to the real story.
Kate, ditto what you said about The Mysterious Benedict Society. I couldn't finish it and I usually finish books out of a sense of guilt. Amazing that it got published and got a sequel.
This is true, but I couldn't count it because I think it's one of the one's I haven't read. I couldn't count Swallows and Amazons either because the library only had the second book in the series.
That's the strange thing about Swallows and Amazons – I've seen other libraries that only had copies of Swallowdale and nothing else from the series. It almost makes me wonder if Godine (the publisher) did a promotion and sent a bunch of copies out when they republished Swallowdale or something. I don't think I've ever seen a library that had the complete series.
does anyone like "Red Rock Mysteries" by Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry?
I have read all 15 books SO many times! I love those!

Heh. There's actually three of them now. I kinda liked the second one better than the first, and I have yet to read the third. But I really enjoyed the first. I thought it had a great writing style, the storyline was intriguing, and it actually held my attention through the entire thing.
Liberty, I have read one or two of the "Red Rock Mysteries"...I can't exactly remember them, but I do remember thinking that I preferred Frank Peretti's "Cooper Family Adventure" series, and Robert Elmer's "Promise of Zion" books... I don't think I really disliked them, but I don't think they were a favorite. Have you read any of Frank Peretti's or Robert Elmer's books?
*pops in after a ridiculously long time away* I won't even try to do a real catch-up post. For anyone who is interested, my latest reads and reviews include Emma, Ella Minnow Pea, the Anne of Green Gables series, Heyer's Venetia, and others.
Right now I am listening to The Magician: The Immortal Secrets of Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott, which is so-so. It's not terribly original or well written, but I have to review it for a sci-fi/fantasy website (they sent it to me free in exchange for a review). It has gotten better as it goes along, but it's nothing impressive. I haven't read the first book (The Alchemyst?) but the characters constantly refer back to the events in that story so I don't really need to.
I am also rereading Les Misérables for the third time. It's wonderful, but I do wish I had big chunks of time to read rather than little snippets here and there.
I have to agree about the Mysterious Benedict Society books. I had heard good things about it so I requested the ARC of the second book when it popped up on BM. I hadn't read the first one. My thoughts were very similar to what Kate and Booky are saying: rather boring and predictable. However, I know someone on these boards who enjoys the books a great deal, so I sent that copy off to her and her sisters . I'm glad that they were able to enjoy it even though I didn't!
*laughs at Booky's sig* I want to reread Hogfather before Christmas, if I can squeeze it in. It's been a long time since I read any Pratchett, and I remember that being one of the better ones.

Silvertounge: I have read Robert Elmer's series "The Young Underground" and I LOVE those books! but those are the only Robert Elmer books I have read. I don't really like Frank Perreti's books.....kind of not my style.
has anyone tried reading the new series "The 39 Clues"? I love them! I have got as far as book #5.....so there's still a ways to go!

Liberty, you really should try Robert Elmer's "Promise of Zion" series...they're fab! And they have Henrik from the "Young Underground" series in them.
I have been "sorta" reading "The 39 Clues" books, as the children's room at the library gets them...my co-worker and I have been reading them and been comparing opinions. Some I enjoyed and some I didn't, which is understandable as they're all by different authors. But I can't believe I'm going to have to wait for 39 books until I reach the end! O_o
Yesterday morning, our church sang "[Oh] How He loves [us]" as members gave cardboard testimonies. It was amazing! I can't get enough of this song!
Then ... yesterday afternoon I was at B&N and discovered Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God by Francis Chan. It's amazing! I first heard about this book this past summer, and I knew I had to read it. So I bought it. You just gotta read Crazy Love, folks!
Today ... a friend told me to read Compelled by Love, by Heidi Baker. So I will!
I'm finally learning to believe in and accept God's great love for me! Just had to share this...
