1 Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen It was a very witty book.
2 The Lord of the Rings – JRR Tolkien Wonderful book! I read it [them ] before I saw the movies--it was great! Tolkien presented things so wonderfully that you explored Middle Earth with Frodo and Sam in pure book-lover style.
3 Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte I actually am not such a huge fan of the Bronte sisters, and esp. not this one.
4 The Harry Potter Series – JK Rowling Read them, but they're just not my type.
5 To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee Read and re-read, but just one more re-read to see whether it fully reaches my "absolute favorite". I liked it pretty well though.
6 The Bible Love it.

8 Nineteen Eighty Four – George Orwell
9 His Dark Materials – Philip Pullman

So I've read... 52. One's that aren't highlighted in any way I feel more or less indifferent about, I'm not really planning to read them but I'd never say never.

I've tried to be quite conservative about my underlined ones, so I've gone for books I well and truly loved, but it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy or at least get something out of the not underlined ones.

The ones I've crossed out are ones I just don't think should be on this list. Too recent and just kind of 'meh'. There's books on here I don't like, but I can see why they're there, but not with these ones.

I've seen this list before, it is a bit iffy. Like some have said, there's the complete Shakespeare as well as Hamlet, same with CoN. It's also completely weighted towards Western literature. It's not claiming to be a comprehensive list so you could debate that that isn't an issue, but if they're trying to give an overview of classics it's lacking.

4 The Harry Potter Series – JK Rowling - Loved the first three books, but the other four kind of stepped down for me and I REALLY did NOT like the way the series ended. So disappointing. I haven't read them since the last one came out.

9 His Dark Materials – Philip Pullman - Got into these before anybody knew about them. Read the first one and enjoyed it. Read the second one and it made me so uncomfortable I never read the third. It was later I found out the motivation behind Pullman's writing these books. A real shame cause I feel like he's one of the most talented modern day authors.

I'll probably be burned at the stake now that I said I liked this book.

I see a few posts ago that I said I was going to make a detailed post about Dekker. Unfortunately I can no longer remember what that detailed post was actually going to say. Thank you for your suggestions, though, everyone. They helped a lot, and I plan to try some of his books sometime in the future.

The Faraway Tree Collection! That sounds really familiar. I think a friend of ours who is from the UK told us about the books. Is this the book series with the kids who climbed a certain tree and then went to a different world when they chewed some sweets? Or something like that?

I haven't been here in some time, so I'll share a portion of my reading list this summer!

-To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. My sister has been telling me to read this one for some time, so I will.
-The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien. I've only read FotR, but really need to read the rest. My sister is telling me to purge my mind of all the movies' influences and imagine the books for myself, so I'll try.
-The Seaside and the Fireside by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. My English course this year included a detailed look on Pre-Colonial to Modern American Literature, and I really enjoyed learning about/reading excerpts by the featured authors. Here I was introduced to Longfellow, whose poems for abolition I greatly admired (and I loved "A Psalm of Life") so I got a bok with some poems by him, mostly enjoyed reading the ones pertaining to nature, and saw that most of my favourites were from The Seaside and the Fireside, so I plan to read this one.
-something by James Greenleaf Whittier.
-The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas. Bought it for cheap and figured I might as well read it.
-Some more Sherlock Holmes books.
-Finish A Tale of Two Cities
-Read more Austen
-More Charles Spurgeon books.

Bella, I'm jealous of your reading list. LotR, Sherlock Holmes, Dumas, Austen, Tozer--you have got a fantastic summer of reading ahead of you! To Kill a Mockingbird's on my short list this summer as well. And hope you enjoy Longfellow and Whittier; they're two of my favorites.

I picked up Ender's Game, Castle in the Air, a Jeeves and Wooster book, and The Sunbird (third in Elizabeth Wein's Arthurian series) at the library yesterday. I'd love to tackle some Agatha Christie and G.K. Chesterton this summer, so it's probably on to those next.
