^I agree with you, but sometimes judging it by its cover isn't nice since its content is what matters. I admit that I may be sometimes doing it, but I try to avoid it. :D

Agreed. :) I do try to avoid it, since of course the writing inside is what counts the most. A book could have a horrible cover, but that doesn't change the fact that the writing might be fantastic. All I'm saying is that a cover is sort of like a first impression of the book, if you will. It's important to try to make a good first impression. ;)

Thanks for agreeing ;) Appreciate it much.

My friend read the book I bought, The 3 Willows. It's a great story synonymous to The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. The author really shows this great friendship and importance of one another. It's really, really nice.

I really like that take on the genre, Booky. I couldn't quite express why I liked fantasy before, but I think that's it. It summarizes my thoughts very well.

Plodding through Ivanhoe at present. I have NO idea why anyone would like the character of Ivanhoe. He's only concerned with battles and glory. X(

I agree, that is an interesting take on the fantasy genre.

After just seeing the 2010 movie, I was intrigued enough to start Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. I'm not too far into it yet but at the moment, I'm not sure what to think. I think I'm going to like it, but it

Spoiler
seems quite changed from the movie. It seems as if they added a "driving force" to the movie that the book doesn't have (similar to what happened to VDT, I suppose) -- as in the whole thing about Alice destroying the Jabberwocky.
Of course, I may have simply not gotten far enough into the book yet to know for sure. Anyway, I find many of the quotes in the book humorous. :)

I also finished Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. I've never read a book quite like it before ;)) (in the way that

Spoiler
what the characters read out of books become reality.

I was really confused at first with the way the characters keep referring to the book "Inkheart", because I was wondering if they were talking about the same book I was reading, or a different book that the book I was reading was named after. =)) 8-}

I am planning to read the next two books in the trilogy but of course forgot to pick up the books from the library. Next time. :p

Lady Galadriel, just so you know, the 2010 Alice in Wonderland movie is supposed to be a sequel to the actual books, not a retelling. So it'll probably be different in a lot of ways. :)

Oh, is that what it is! That does make sense. I'm glad to know that! B-) :)

I've finished The Eagle of the Ninth and my reread of The Last Unicorn.
And I didn't really think Ivanhoe was that bad, compared to some of the other characters in that book.

Spoiler
Have you read his dialogue with Rebecca in Chapter 29 yet? I think she gave a pretty good skewering of his ideals there.

I've never read Ivanhoe, but now I am wanting to read it so that I can make up my mind about Ivanhoe's character :-?

Reading War and Peace. Goodness, that book annoys me. None of the characters are likeable for the whole duration, they all have major faults, which I suppose makes it more lifelike. And then Sonya, the only one who is really nice . . . agh!! :p I knew what I was getting into though, I feel like this every time I read the book. And then I have to watch the movie, to clear my mind from the book.
I loved Inkheart (okay, I haven't read the last 100 pages or so - I keep starting it in book stores, and having to put it down, but I know what happens)!.

Wow, Elanor are you reading the unabridged version? That is heavy going! The longest book I've read is Les Miserables. It was about 1400 pages.

Yup, the unabridged. I think I'll finish it today, which means four days, like I did for Monte Christo. But oh, it can't compare to MC. It's not nearly as interesting, has a HORRIBLE ending (well, I hate it. Maybe I won't read it this time), and - well, yeah.
And then, I think I'm going to read Les Miserables for the first time. :-

Good for you! I loved Les Miserables. However, Hugo does have a tendency to go into long details and devote whole chapters to descriptions of things that seem to have nothing to do with the plot. Hmmm, seriously considering reading The Count of Monte Cristo now. Getting lots of good suggestions today :)

*weepeth* ( ;) ) But what about Andrei? And Maria? And Nikolai? And perhaps even Pierre and Natasha? (Those two, generally speaking, I like less, although they have their good points too.) I'm re-reading the book myself, and absolutely loving it. My brother and I are also in the middle of watching Sergei Bondarchuk's 8 hour film version, made in 1968, in Russian with the English subtitles. It's magnificent, and epic. But that is probably a discussion for the past movies thread.

So you can read War and Peace in 4 days? (If I read your post correctly?) :) How many pages a day is that, and how many hours does it take per day? (Because I am very curious. ;)) ) I like War and Peace better than Les Miserables, but since I have a copy of the book now, it's due for a re-read. At some point. I think I like The Count of Monte Cristo as much as W&P, though, it was pretty good. :)

You hate War and Peace? I read the book in '09 and, I admit, I haven't got the intelligence for the philosophical chapters but I enjoyed the story ones. I was very interested in how everybody was tied to everybody else. My mind was blown by the extreme number of characters. Tolstoy really impressed me and I enjoyed reading it.

Of course, I have to say, the reason I read War and Peace was because I read Anna Karenina and loved it. That book is a great work of literature.
