JACK AND TOLLERS is the true story of the friendship of Lewis and Tolkien. It will give you a glimpse into the souls of these incredible Men of Letters. Until now, there has never been a major motion picture depicting their unique friendship. For the global fan base of both authors and indeed the fantasy genre itself, we are excited to say that the time has come to move forward into production. Third Dart Studio

Interestingly enough the same script writers that worked on The Lion Awakes are also working on this project! The writers seem to be incredibly passionate about making a film about Lewis and Tolkien so hopefully that passion can turn into a great movie!

Is this the same movie as 'The Oxford Inklings' I heard about? johobbit, coracle, could one of you confirm?
I'm not sure, but given that they're going through Indie GoGo, I'd say that this is going to be a very independent film project. Here's hoping that they do a top level job on it!

I just chatted with Darren Scott Jacobs who said that Jack and Tollers is not the same film as The Oxford Inklings. The prime focus is on the former at this time. It looks like TOI is on the back burner for now.
Having loved reading about their friendship for much of my life, I am eagerly excited for this film, and hope it continues to move forward, building on all the information available on the relationship between CSL and JRRT.
Having said that, it seems our hopes were let down with The Lion Awakes film going nowhere, then not much transpiring with The Oxford Inklings, so I would dearly love to see Jack and Tollers take flight!

Here's an interview recorded by William O'Flaherty with Chris Dodge, Executive Producer and Darren Jacobs, screen writer. It's a very interesting and informative interview that's well worth your time. It covers a lot of questions that I had about the film like the budget, possible release date, and how it differs from The Lion Awakes.

First casting announcement! Tony Nixon (Rynelf) will play James Welch who was the Director of Religious Broadcasting for the BBC during World War II! I'm so glad for Tony!
Third Dart Studios' facebook page also says that there is another casting announcement coming soon. Wonder who it will be!?

That's very cool news. Congratulations on landing the role Tony!
That's really cool! Looking forward to further casting announcements. Thanks for posting this update, Impending Doom.

I hadn't heard about this... very intriguing! I hope it's as good as the two versions of "Shadowlands" that I've seen. It seems like the sort of thing that could lend itself well to a low indie budget... not a lot of special effects needed.
You can call me Willow if you want to.
It would be very interesting to see the relationship between Lewis and Tolkien depicted onscreen. For some reason my imagination always makes them a bit boring and stuffy, which from everything I've heard is very far from the truth. I hope a film with spark my mind enough to imagine the truth.
Movie Aristotle, AKA Risto
So this could be considered a "Costume drama", then?
It's too bad the indigogo fundraiser didn't go so well; the information on the page sounds promising. At least they're still moving ahead! I definitely want to see this if it does work out; I don't know too much about the relationship between Lewis and Tolkien (should go dig through the book of Tolkien's letters that I have).

Greetings from the crew at Third Dart Studios!
We are most pleased to announce that we have secured the Rights to Colin Duriez book, The Gift of Friendship, the story about CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien.
We will be using the book to help us complete our script and we are still scheduled for a Fall 2014 shooting date in the UK and Ireland.
We encourage people to check out Colin's book and Paulilst Press.
Thanks for the greetings, Chris, and glad to have you on the forum!
Congratulations on securing the rights; that's very exciting news! I'll have to try to get a copy of Duriez's The Gift of Friendship; it looks like a very interesting read.
Really looking forward to this film, and I wish you all the best of luck as you finish drafting the script and start shooting this fall.
