No, but he was conservative in his outlook- he preferred the older system in England of private schools (confusingly called "public shools" because they were theoretically open to anybody) which were single-sex and taught a curriculum largely based on the classical writings of Greece and Rome, history, and math and natural sciences.
The difference is that people wanted to hear the stories, whereas I never met anyone who wanted to read the essays
