... and they are worth supporting just for that if nothin else! :)

Difficult for some purists to wrap their feelings around that thought process. I can deal with this quite well. As I mentioned before, I promote it. If it is a good movie, it will spread so much by word of mouth.

Why do people build up this straw man of the crazed book purist who will hate the movies if they differ in one word from the books? :- /:)

Never said you were crazy. :P Devoted. Not crazy. The more devoted don't even bother with community forums; too painful. I know at least one.

“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver; “don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

I think everyone needs to remember why C.S. wrote these stories... It wasnt so one day he could see them turned into blockbuster movies that stick religously close to the books... but it was so ppl could enjoy them, learn from them, and hopefully come to know God through them... i know ppl that have achieved this through his writings,,, and wether or not the movie is miles from the book, (PC) there are still important themes and truths in the film... and i think that is far more important than sticking to everyword of the book... wether VDT sticks to the book or not, we shld support it, because these are some of the very few respectable, clean, family friendly movies around these days, and they are worth supporting just for that if nothin else! :)

that is exactly right! thank you so much for posting that! my thoughts exactly! I have to say, personally I got more spiritual goodness and life lesson applications and Godly truths out of the movie version of PC! so I watch it more than I read it! the best thing I got out of the movie PC was this: Peter didn't wait for Aslan, and in so doing, got many Narnians killed during the night raid. in the same way, We need to wait on God and ask for his direction before we act.

I know, they think we're so weird 8-| :p .

Quite frankly, the Narnia movies have failed in that respect. They've been highly generic fantasy movies with much of the religious aspects and deity of Aslan diluted or removed.

Ditto. Just b/c they're "clean" movies, doesn't make them good.

Difficult for some purists to wrap their feelings around that thought process.

it is. Anyone can make a clean, family-friendly movie (if they want to!), but these people are taking our beloved stories and destroying all these different parts. If they continue to do this, I won't be supporting them. I don't want the story to be changed and ruined for me.

Another important thing to remember is... (and im not pointing fingers...) The film makers are NOT rewriting, the narnia stories, they are making movies BASED ON the stories... i understand the points raised about not sticking to the books, but i cant stress enough that surely this is not the most important factor in making a film BASED on the books... we will always have the books, they will always be the origional and the best... Walden n others a merely adding thier perspective and ideas to the mix, they are not taking away from the BOOKS, because no one can change the books... and ill say again... we shld support the movies for the values they hold, and the simple fact that they are a few of the dwindling numbers of ''Decent'' films out these days... (i must sound like a broken record! haha) :D Remember... THE BOOKS THEMSELVES ARE NOT BEING CHANGED..... ;)

I will say that the first film was brilliant and the changes made had points and looked good to the story. With PC I'm sorry to you LoveNarniaLive4God and people who love this film but the subplots were mixed about everywhere, the lines didn't make sense and it completely took away the story.

It's like reading a thesis with a main point but the paras are different and not explaining the thesis yet the thesis idea comes back to the conclusion while the middle areas need fixing.

I still feel as if VDT is still going to be a great film, though there are a few changes i will not act like the biggest purist. I hope the changes are made with proper thought and connects to the story and its' meaning. That's all I care about and yes no matter what I will keep continuing to support future films. ;) :D

For me, promoting Dawn Treader looks something like this:

Someone opens a facebook chat: Hey girl! How are you?

Me: I'm excited about the new Narnia movie coming out in December!!! How are you?!

Am I a freak or what?! =))

HEY... i dont know if anyone knows this,,, and if it is old news, than pls forgive me... but i noticed on Walden Media's site that they have given Dawn Treader a rating of....... PG... so in our efforts to promote the film it prob wont hurt to mention to ppl that it is only rated PG, and therefore we can expect it to be completely Family Friendly... given that young family's were one of the biggest contributors to LWW's ticket sales,,, this could be a decision breaker for some parents!!!! :D

WAIT WAIT WAIT... it is old news.. haha just noticed that was already known... lol anyways still worth mentioning because here in australia PC was rated M... and i know of a few familys that didnt take thier kids cause of the rating!!! ... anyways... keep promoting! :D

Eh, word of advice, PG does not equal family friendly. If you read the guidelines for film ratings, there can actually be nudity in a PG rated movie, with the provision that it not be sexual in nature. Not that I think there's going to be nudity in VDT :P , but it does bug me to see people equating PG with good wholesome family values when you can actually get away with a surprising amount of content in a PG rated film.

Yes, I've seen quite a few PG-13 films that were cleaner than, say, Percy Jackson and also weren't as scary than HP6 or PC.

That said, PG movies in general have less offensive content than higher-rated films and it is one thing going for VDT's box-office appeal.

I have seen PG movies that were more violent than LOTR that were rated PG.....so therfore we will have to see how violent VotDT will be before we say it's family friendly! :P

Yes all good points thanks... i did say thet we can ''expect'' it to be family friendly... i probably should have made that more clear... We could say that ''it is rated PG, and being a Narnia/Walden film we can expect it to be family friendly, but parents will have to decide for themselves''... haha. but I am sure it will be. In Australia we seem to have much stronger ratings on our films for some reason. PC was rated M15+ here, and I am lead to believe that it was only rated PG in the States? correct me if i'm wrong :) but i suppose thats why i said it should be family friendly. ;) How good is it that we should see that trailer infront of Toy Story??? what a perfect movie to have it infront of... the perfect target audience, and what will likely be a HUGE audience! :)
