[Closed] VDT Theatrical Poster!

The news is coming thick and fast this week!

MundoNarnia has a picture of the new Poster! (from Poland for some reason)

http://www.mundonarnia.com/portal/prime ... ragao.html

As we all kind of thought, its not too dissimilar to the designs of the HarperCollins Movie Tie-in Book Covers but it does look rather more vibrant and striking than any of those book covers.

Not sure what to think of the Dragon and his big massive arms, but overall i mostly like it :)

Apparently the tag line says something along the lines of "Take a Trip of Adventure and Discover Narnia As You've Never Seen It Before" or words to that effect. I'd imagine the English movie poster will also say something suitably generic across the top ;)

I guess the orignal source for the poster was here: http://www.filmweb.pl/film/Opowie%C5%9B ... 010-427887 but MundoNarnia didn't directly quote any specific source.

Hmm.. not sure what to think of it.
It's a nice poster but nothing we haven't seen before. Ah well, it was about time they released a "proper" VODT poster anyways. :p
The dragon is a big 'meh' for me. It looks more like a bat with scales than a dragon. I think it's the ears. :-s
And the depiction of WW on the theatrical poster kinda just confirms that the plot will revolve around her even if we won't see her much. :-

Our first glimpse of Eustace, I take it??? I almost didn't see him, though... I'm not sure whether I like the look of the dragon or not.

The White Witch's (hmph, :-l and she's in a prominent place on the poster, too!) eyes are blue. That would be comforting to me except that the Dawn Treader's sail is blue instead of purple, so her eyes may only be changed to match the poster. :-?

Wow. They can't even make a good poster? Isn't rather lame that they had to dig up an LWW picture of the white witch for this poster?!

This is what I mean when I say that some people are out to "get" Narnia. Nothing about its promotion seems to go right or professionally. There are some posters out there that can SELL an otherwise terrible film. We Narnians get a raw deal, I think. We get half-baked movies with unenthusiastic promotion. The only people that do any good at selling the movies are the actors (Ben Barnes doesn't seem embarassaed to be in a Narnia movie. I admire him for that).

This is interesting...I like that Lucy looks more normal than the theater stand did, and I absolutely love Eustace's and Reepicheep's pictures! :D The dragon looks kind of odd, but then, of course, we only just started seeing the dragon about a week ago. Maybe this is just a bad picture of him. :- And oh brother, the WW squeezed herself into to it too... 8-|

Overall, this looks pretty good! ;)

I found MundoNarnia's Tweet to us before I found this thread. Thanks for posting the original link, icarus. :)

Google translation of poster

Take a trip. [?] adventure.
Discover Narnia. Which have not yet seen.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader
In cinemas from 25 December
In selected theaters in digital 3-D

Poland isn't listed on IMDb's release dates for the film. But clearly that doesn't matter. December 25: nice! :)

I think the modchat discussion of this poster sums up my opinion of this ... thing:

Bookwyrm: ewwww
Bookwyrm: EWWWWW
Bookwyrm: And again EWWWWWW!!!!!!
ValiantArcher: Is it spoiler-free?
ValiantArcher: I'm guessing no...
Bookwyrm: it's the poster
Bookwyrm: or at least the Polish one
Destined-To-Reign: Whoa! Look at Jadis!!
Destined-To-Reign: And Lucy!
Destined-To-Reign: And that flying-pig thing.
ValiantArcher: Hmmm....I'll look, I gurdd
Bookwyrm: It has sparkles and Edmund looks like he's in pain, and the WW is on it, and Lucy still looks weird, and Reep looks psycho and there's a flying thing
ValiantArcher: *guess
ValiantArcher: Wait, flying >pig
Destined-To-Reign: And Reepicheep. Oh wow, I don't like that. :P
Bookwyrm: Is that Dragon!Eustace? Good Lord, he looks awful
Destined-To-Reign: Caspian and Eustace look alright, but even Aslan looks wacky.
ValiantArcher: *shudders* Okay, I don't know what's up with that, but it's not particularly good
Destined-To-Reign: It *can't* be, Booky!
Destined-To-Reign: Aslan looks like he's growing a white beard.
Bookwyrm: The ship looks weird too
Destined-To-Reign: No, I'm positive that's not a dragon. It's a . . . flying . . . pig. . . boar. . . THING.
Bookwyrm: I'm so quoting you, DTR
ValiantArcher: ;))

The poster is too busy and looks like a botched Photoshop job. It's good to finally see the dragon, even if it does look rather strange and 'kiddy'.

It isn't terrible though I'm not amazed by it. The dragon looks really weird.
Edmund is holding Rhindon, also in the trailer when his sword is glowing that is Rhindon too, I wonder why Caspian keeps giving him sword. It can't be the one he gets from Bern because that one is very different.

Ok:
Bad Point: the white witch is there
Good Point: Peter and Susan are not
Good Point: Here eye's aren't green
Bad Point: the dragon and Aslan could have been done better- A lot better
Good point: The water and the Dawn Treader look awesome! (By the way, the sail looks purple on my screen)
Bad Point: the lighting on Lucy is a bit awkward
Good Point: Edmund's no longer holding the sword by the blade
Confusing point: what's with the sword anyway?
Good Point: Caspian and Eustace look great
Interesting Note: So that's how you spell Narnia in Poland- I love other languages
I have no idea if this is good or bad point: No image of the sea serpent
Interesting note: The pic of Reep looks like it came from one of the scenes in the first trailer- he looks better in the trailer

That's my overview: Other than the WW, the bad points seem to have to do more with the art/ asthetics, but its causing me a bit of concern that the lower budget will impact the CGI (However there have been clips with good CGI, and Lucy looks way better in the films, Also all the pics of Aslan never matched up from the begining, so I think its more of the artwork than the CGI

I think its pretty good, but I'd just change the shot of Aslan. It looks like a painting, not a real lion. And the dragon reminds me a bit of the Shrek Dragon.

Though I hate her involvement in the movie, I will say that the White Witch does look kinda cool in the poster. And I like her having blue eyes like the sea instead of green eyes....maybe this film doesnt have the white witch after all and instead has "THE BLUE WITCH!"

=)) (The modsquad quote)
I think Lucy looks better. I'm not sure what to think about "Dragon" Eustace. He looks familiar like I've seen something similar before but I can't quite place it. I think whatever it was it was furry (I'm pretty sure it wasn't a pig). A commerical for a movie perhaps?
I think it is better than some other stuff we have seen. Reep isn't on the logo.

Confusing point: what's with the sword anyway?

If you mean why Edmund has it, it is obvious they are playing musical swords. Maybe every new island or every time the background music changes they switch weapons. I just had a picture of someone shouting in the middle of a battle "Switch" and then the action pauses while the Narnians toss their sword to the next person. =))

*takes one look at DragonEustace and starts sobbing* :(( What IS that? I know it isn't exactly correct to say he doen't look like a dragon - with dragons being made up creatures and all that - but he really doesn't! Oh my. This is coming from a diehard dragon fanatic. I'm really hoping it's just the angle he's at that makes him look weird.

They still haven't fixed the picture of the Dawn Treader. Her sail is backwards. See that "n" for Narnia? It's flipped around.

What is up with Aslan? He looks cartoony, like, the Father Christmas of lions. And the White Witch?! Go away. You're supposed to be dead.

Sorry. I'm not usually this critical but I can be nitpicky when it comes to art. And I really don't like it. :(

Way too busy for my taste, but not terrible. I'm starting to think that the whole Edmund holding a sword prominently has to do with allusions to the whole seven swords deal. Maybe.

The dragon reminds me, strongly, of Eustace in the BBC. Could be worse, I suppose.

On the whole, I am underwhelmed. I dare say I'll get used to it, though.
