The more I think about it, the more I think Eustace was exaggerating/being sarcastic about the number of days the
Pevensies had spent in his house. The specific complaints about "at least you have your own room" make things seem like Lucy and Edmund had arrived there rather recently.

That's an excellent point. Another thing is, 200 days is over six months. We already know from the beginning of Prince Caspian that even in the movie universe, the Pevensies attend boarding school. If they had only been staying at the Scrubbs house over summer as they were in the book, it would have had to be much less than six months. So even if the rest of their family went to America, there's no reason why Edmund and Lucy couldn't have gone to boarding school. There really was no reason for them to have to go to school in the city of Cambridge, and, if there was, I think there should have at least been an explanation for it somewhere in the film. :P

So it would seem that Eustace was exaggerating, which I think is reinforced enough by the school situation and much of the dialogue, as you said. :)

....I also find it curious that Edmund says "Have you seen this ship before. [emphasis added]" It must have been there at least for a little, since Lucy says she has. Does the ship appear and disappear at (Aslan's) will? Will the ship ever reappear? Will Aunt Alberta be mortified that her, albeit hated, wedding present has been altered? :p

Basically I thought Edmund was just asking if Lucy remembered seeing that style of ship before (not in the time sense at being at Eustace's house) but in the sense of them having had such similar-looking ships when they were Narnian royalty.

I didn't notice it disappearing at the end....I shall have to look for it on the DVD.

^^ yes, look for it! it happens just before Lucy shuts the door to the room and the movie ends: Lucy looks one last time at the painting and sniffs (she's crying) and you just see the ship disappear. it made me cry harder than I was already crying! :D

I love the ship leaving at the end, has a real closing feel for me and and it was really sweet!

I do feel it was wierd though to have it be 257 (?) days and never dicussed the picture?

I'll be honest and say that I didn't notice that moment. I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time I watch it. It sounds like a pretty cool addition though! :)

I really liked this! It just left a beautiful image in your head when you left the cinema! And the end was just so beautiful, there isn't one thing i can say bad things about. The image of Eustace putting the painting back on the wall and them all leaving the room with the door shutting behind them...like they are excepting that they may never return and Narnia has made it clear that they will not heve anymore reminders and longings to return! (because in the 1st film they left with hope that they would return and in PC they left knowing that only Lucy and Edmund would)
The ship is so iconic as well- I loved it! :)

I think I liked it and thought it showed the theme of Lucy and Edmund saying goodbye to Narnia and especially Aslan forever. Although I admit my thought right after that was "wow that's kind of a boring painting now" because it just showed the sea instead of a majestic ship.

Yeah, I did thik that as well first time round actually, because the ship was not a massive part of the painting before and now it's, as you sais, just a paining of the plain sea :( But hey-ho!

I think they could go to school in Cambridge. I don't know if Cambridge is or was the big town, but if it's positive, Lucy could go shopping on Saturday. Saturdays are days when all rest. So it couldn't be bombing. Because they are in their cousin's house before WW II ended. Maybe The Blitz ended, though they were safe. 6 months? Um, if Eustace counted the days exactly, it may be only one answer "Or the painting is magical completely, or it's a mistake! Or we have problems with our ears." :D

Lucy:Do you remember who really defeated the White Witch?
Peter: Yes.
Susan:No.
Lucy:Do you both believe in Narnia?
Narnians, Caspian and Edmund:We believe.
Susan and Peter:Shut up.

I really liked the scene which was sooo emotional and kinda sad. I already had tears in my eyes due to the farewell scene in Narnia. I definitely had a lump in my throat when the DT disappeared in the painting though I tried very hard not to cry ;)

I have to say, I was a sobbing mess all the way from the farewell scene with Aslan to the very last moment when the Dawn Treader disappeared from the painting and Lucy looked back at it as she closed the door. It was such a lovely ending and carried with it so much nostalgia knowing that Lucy and Edmund where leaving Narnia forever. I also really like how Eustace narrated the last lines at the closing. Will has such a nice voice, whose tone was able to reflect his transformation and in the end those beautiful lines... "We spoke much of Narnia in the days to come..." were filled with so much meaning and depth from the journey they had just taken that I just kept on crying. I guess I'm so emotional when it comes to the Narnia films because they hold such a special place in my heart! :)

The farewell scene is about the only thing in the movie that I can say I actually liked. Well, minus Caspian's unexpected rampant misogyny. But it was nicely shot and acted. And it featured HGW's music rather than the Poor Man's Danny Elfman scoring we got throughout the rest of the film.
